Alpha Flight

Annual 2003

THE DREAMER'S DREAM

Conclusion

By Gregg Epstein

The leader of Alpha Flight, James MacDonald Hudson wears a battle suit which allows him to tap into the Earth's EM field.

Guardian

The wife of Guardian, Heather Hudson wears a similar battle suit to her husband's. However, her suit allows her to control geothermal energies.

Vindicator

Formerly known as Box, Madison Jeffries possesses the ability to transmute metal into weapons. Recently, he and his wife, Diamond Lil, have returned to Alpha Flight.

Madison Jeffries

Lillian Crawley possesses extremely dense skin, which makes her resistant to injury and enhances her strength. She recently returned to Alpha Flight with her husband, Madison Jeffries.

Diamond Lil

A former espionage agent for Department H, Eugene Milton Judd is a long-standing member of Alpha Flight. Recently, he had a falling-out with Vindicator.

Puck

Latest in an ancient line of Sarcee medicine men, Michael Twoyoungmen derives mystic power from the protective spirits of the land through his leather medicine pouch. Shaman is also an accomplished physician.

Shaman

Elizabeth Twoyoungmen is the daughter of Shaman and the bearer of the mystic Talisman, granting her mystic powers in excess of even her father's.

Talisman

Anne McKenzie is the civilian identity of Snowbird, a northern demi-goddess -- born of a union between man and goddess -- whose true name is Narya. Raised by teammate Shaman, Narya has the ability to fly and to shapeshift into any creature of the North.

Snowbird

Renowned radiation scientist Walter Langkowski was bathed in Gamma radiation, giving him the ability to shapeshift into the mythical creature of the North, Sasquatch. Walter later found out that he was actually assuming the physical form of one of Canada's Great Beasts when he transformed. Walter enjoys a romantic relationship with Jeanne-Marie Beaubier, aka Aurora.

Sasquatch

A mutant with the powers of flight and super-speed, Jean-Paul Beaubier is a troubled young man, angry and standoffish. He is devoted to his sister, Aurora, and doesn't approve of her continuing relationship with Walter Langkowski, aka Sasquatch.

Northstar

The sister of Northstar suffers from a split personality -- the matronly, puritanical Jeanne-Marie and the funloving Aurora. As Aurora, she shares her brother's abilities of speed and flight. The twins may also pool their powers through physical contact, igniting a blinding burst of light.

Aurora

The successor of General Clarke, Gentry is the current Director of Department H. He's a lot more straight-forward with Alpha Flight than their previous director was.

Gentry

In a place with no name, a place that resembles hell, White Light had awakened from the deep sleep that death had overtaken him. He thought that he was dead, when Captain America's shield had penetrated his body and the light that had kept him alive had caused him to discorporate into nothingness. His White Light demons had been transported to a netherdimension by Talisman of Alpha Flight. If he was alive, he would make sure that the bitch would never do that to him or his followers again.

He opened his eyes, one a time, and saw a creature unimaginable before him. He had a bald pate with a streak of a mohawk over the central bald spot.

"Who are you?!" White Light exclaimed, the fear placed in him.

The man with the tattered clothes and cape approached him, getting a closer look at the man before him. "My name is Llan. I am a sorcerer. I have brought you back to life. You should be grateful."

"What I am is I am going to kill you. Thanks is for lesser beings." White Light nearly screamed those words as he stretched his arms outwards and fired twin bolts of white light energy at the sorcerer.

Llan had deflected it with a wave of his hand. It was almost nothing to him. "You should learn to respect your elders and your betters."

White Light was flabbergasted. "That is impossible. No one can deflect my blasts!!"

Llan laughed, a loud chuckle. "No one, you say?? Like Captain America's shield did and killed you."

"Speaking of which, how am I alive?"

"You are composed of living energy, white light as is your namesake. That cannot die, only be converted to another place. I stored that energy in this world, the Dream Queen's Live World. I have also saved your disciples, the White Light Demons."

"You do have your uses," White Light said. "Maybe I won't kill you, just yet."

"As if you could," Llan remarked under his breath.

"Now what, Llan?"

"Now we journey to earth, to Canada specifically. To attack Alpha Flight. To end the dream state that my woman, the Dream Queen, has placed them under and kill them once and for all."

White Light smiled. "Sounds like a plan to me."

The Alpha Complex

In the big conference room and meeting hall of the Complex, Talisman, Shaman, and Snowbird had gathered the rest of Alpha, Beta, and Delta Flights there to put a spell on them.

Talisman spoke, "You all probably know that recently as I have noted before the Dream Queen has been invading your dreams, giving you righteous nightmares, as is her father's namesake. I will place a spell on you that should shield you from further attempts at invading your minds."

"Let's do it," Guardian said, speaking for the rest of the team.

"Okay, nobody move and hold still," Talisman said, as the rest of the team did as they were told. She gestured wildly and powerful mystical energies escaped her fingertips, as she wove a protective spell over them.

It only took a couple seconds for the spell to take place and then, the energies dissipatated.

"Don't worry, if you don't feel any different," Talisman said. "And it should affect your powers and sleep any."

"I'm just glad that that's over and done with," Puck said. "Being chased around by Jerry Jaxon and the rest of Gamma Flight is something I wouldn't want to repeat even in real life, let alone the dreaming world."

Diamond Lil stepped forward. "And I know that my hubbie, Madison, wouldn't want Kamikaze to ever leave the team and our house, no matter what he says." She eyed Kamikaze. "He really likes you, I can feel it."

"That is good to know, my darling Lillian," Kamikaze said.

Madison had a frown on his face. "You really have to stop that."

"Stop what?" Kamikaze answered.

It looked like it was a moot point but Kamikaze would never understand it.

"Okay, people, listen up," Guardian said. "I want all of you to hit the Combat Room. We have to train if we are going to be up for the task of fighting the criminals who escaped our prison."

Llan's skyscraper headquarters

In her office, the Dream Queen had called Llan in to talk to him about a very important matter. "I have tried to enter the Alphans' minds again with no luck. That bitch Talisman has seemed to have erected a protective spell around their minds. I can't alter their dream state."

"Don't worry about it. I'll think of something to do with White Light added to our army. Do not let it concern you now or ever. Go sit down and get some rest."

As Llan exited the office, the Dream Queen sat down in her swivel chair and dreamt...

In the dream, she was back in her home at Live World. She was running for her life, trying to get some help from an enemy she could not see or hope to defeat. She somehow knew who this person, the only person who could dull the effect of her power; Elizabeth Twoyoungmen, the Talisman.

Now, she was a giant, chasing the dimunitive Dream Queen. She tripped over a rock and fell down.

The Talisman-giantess reached down to crush the Dream Queen. The Dream Queen screamed and thought her life was over. She used her dream powers to enter Talisman's mind.

She did not like what she saw.

It was a horrorshow of epic proportions.

But the Talisman-giantess had let go of her and dropped her to the ground. The Dream Queen is thankful of that, as she sees her chance for escape. She had never known such fear in all her life.

She had to fight back, to destroy it with every fiber of her being.

Then, the impossible happened.

The giantess shrunk to human size but she was not human; she was the chosen one and she was on a mission of destruction. Just as her team-mate, Snowbird, years ago, was on a mission to destroy the Great Beasts.

Talisman had taken out a giant knife. She pressed the Dream Queen's body against a rock, hurling her own body and the knife closer.

Shtuck!

The knife plunged into the Dream Queen's heart, killing her instantly.

The dream was over.

The Dream Queen woke up, with a stab wound in her chest. She wondered if she was dreaming or Talisman had really attacked her.

Talisman's quarters

"Was that really necessary, daughter?" Shaman asked Talisman. "To attack the Dream Queen through her dreams. A dream spell will not halt her tracks for long, you must know that."

"I know that, father. But I felt that she should get a taste of her own medicine. She has screwed us for so long. All I did was kill her in her dreams. She will be defenseless now. If we can defeat the rest of Llan's army through similar means then we will be one step closer to ridding the world of them forever."

"Anything else we should know about?" Snowbird asked.

"Well, I put a search spell on the Dream Queen's mind and it seems that Llan has resurrected White Light and has freed the White Light demons from that netherdimension that I placed them in. He has been added to the army."

"We better tell Guardian and Gentry fast so they can formulate a plan to capture them," Shaman said.

"Right now, all we can do is hope for the best."
