Issue #22

LLAN'S END, PART III

To Dream No More

by Gregg Epstein

The leader of Alpha Flight, James MacDonald Hudson wears a battle suit which allows him to tap into the Earth's EM field.

Guardian

The wife of Guardian, Heather Hudson wears a similar battle suit to her husband's. However, her suit allows her to control geothermal energies.

Vindicator

Formerly known as Box, Madison Jeffries possesses the ability to transmute metal into weapons. Recently, he and his wife, Diamond Lil, have returned to Alpha Flight.

Madison Jeffries

Lillian Crawley possesses extremely dense skin, which makes her resistant to injury and enhances her strength. She recently returned to Alpha Flight with her husband, Madison Jeffries.

Diamond Lil

A former espionage agent for Department H, Eugene Milton Judd is a long-standing member of Alpha Flight. Recently, he had a falling-out with Vindicator.

Puck

Latest in an ancient line of Sarcee medicine men, Michael Twoyoungmen derives mystic power from the protective spirits of the land through his leather medicine pouch. Shaman is also an accomplished physician.

Shaman

Elizabeth Twoyoungmen is the daughter of Shaman and the bearer of the mystic Talisman, granting her mystic powers in excess of even her father's.

Talisman

Anne McKenzie is the civilian identity of Snowbird, a northern demi-goddess -- born of a union between man and goddess -- whose true name is Narya. Raised by teammate Shaman, Narya has the ability to fly and to shapeshift into any creature of the North.

Snowbird

Renowned radiation scientist Walter Langkowski was bathed in Gamma radiation, giving him the ability to shapeshift into the mythical creature of the North, Sasquatch. Walter later found out that he was actually assuming the physical form of one of Canada's Great Beasts when he transformed. Walter enjoys a romantic relationship with Jeanne-Marie Beaubier, aka Aurora.

Sasquatch

A mutant with the powers of flight and super-speed, Jean-Paul Beaubier is a troubled young man, angry and standoffish. He is devoted to his sister, Aurora, and doesn't approve of her continuing relationship with Walter Langkowski, aka Sasquatch.

Northstar

The sister of Northstar suffers from a split personality -- the matronly, puritanical Jeanne-Marie and the funloving Aurora. As Aurora, she shares her brother's abilities of speed and flight. The twins may also pool their powers through physical contact, igniting a blinding burst of light.

Aurora

The successor of General Clarke, Gentry is the current Director of Department H. He's a lot more straight-forward with Alpha Flight than their previous director was.

WHAT HAS GONE BEFORE:

After Llan teleported all of Alpha Flight to Live World to battle them one last time, the two forces clashed, with Kamikaze and Vindicator seemingly killing Llan for good. Now, it looked like Llan, who was stationed elsewhere, teleported the Dream Queen and Ranark, the Ravager, also to Live World, to fight Alpha Flight.

"Bow before me," Ranark, the Ravager yelled at the top of his lungs, as he stamped one foot on the ground causing an earthquake. "You will bow before me and Llan soon enough, Alpha Flight!"

"And don't forget the Dream Queen, who controls this Live World," the Dream Queen said. Eldritch energy flew out of her hands, mystic energy that literally rocked the Alphan's world.

The blast from both villains separated the members of Alpha Flight to opposite sides of the barren wasteland that was Live World. All of them fell unconscious immediately. The Dream Queen laughed her head off, and Ranark made a snide smirk under his breath.

"That should end the battle with Alpha Flight," Ranark said, proudly of his defeat of his enemies. "See how easily they bow before me and soon enough they will bow before you and later, Llan, the Sorcerer."

"Oh, yes, they will bow before us, Ranark," the Dream Queen remarked. Her eyes glowed crimson and her breasts heaved with fury. "But first, I will have my fun with them."

"And that entails what?"

"Nothing much but warping their perceptions of reality. By making their dreams, hopes, fears, and nightmares coming real. I have the power to do that and when I am finished with them, you shall destroy them by killing them."

"Good, good, good. I grow impatient with this dawdling. I want to destroy them now."

"You will get your chance soon enough. Just be a little patient. And when we kill Alpha Flight, we will deliver them as trophies to Llan, the Sorcerer, and then."

"Then?"

"Then, Canada will belong to us."

Talisman vs. the Dream Queen

"I won't let you get to Llan, Alphans," the Dream Queen said, charging up her hands and equally powerful fingertips with mystical and dream-casting energy. "He may want the final pleasure of defeating and destroying Alpha Flight but I and Ranark, the Ravager can handle the job with no problem whatsoever."

Alpha Flight stood their ground, ready to do battle with both villains and this time put an end to the Evil Mystic Affair. But Talisman knew that this battle couldn't be won by science or even the magic of Alpha Flight but by her alone.

"Stand back, Alpha Flight," Talisman yelled at the top of her lungs , regulating the position of leader to her as she had done in her previous battles with the Dream Queen and Llan, the Sorcerer. Heather hadn't liked Elizabeth being a secondary leader or a leader of any kind because she saw herself as the only and co-leader of the team. She didn't like anyone taking her place, least of which Talisman. Talisman knew this but decided that the better course of action was to disregard her being second string to the greater need to defeat Llan and his army. Well, she had amassed an army for herself as she proved time and time again.

"I'll handle this she-demon."

"Not if I get you first."

The Dream Queen distracted Talisman by sending her blue mechanoid demons out to attack Alpha Flight. This time, Talisman was faced with a paradox; to save Alpha Flight from the robot army or to fight the Dream Queen and let Alpha die at their hands. She thought about it for a moment and realized that it was no choice at all.

She went to help Alpha flight. The Dream Queen woke the heroes up so that they could fight a right battle. Talisman turned her back to the Dream Queen, opening her up to an attack but she didn't care nonetheless. She ran to battle, seeing her friends and teammates suffering as they suffered with awakefullness and used their powers of science and some of magic to destroy the Dream Queen's robot army.

Guardian and Vindicator used their electromagnetic and geothermal powers respectively to destroy the robot army. They destroyed and rended them to so much molten slag. Shaman took a number of them to put them into his medicine pouch and put them into a nether dimension, besides Live World. For the rest, Talisman used her magic to make them disappear. She turned to the Dream Queen again, who just stood there cackling, like a power mad hyena.

The Dream Queen's eyes glowed crimson and she entered Talisman's mind and made her deepest fears and nightmares come to reality. What Talisman feared the most was that she would become twisted again as she had when she fought Brainwave-Pestilence. She would betray her team-mates and friends and be a traitor to her country, to betray Canada like no one has ever done before.

But Talisman was prepared for this eventuality. She placed a spell on herself to prevent her from being victim to this attack.

But before Talisman can renew her attack on her enemy, Shaman shrank the Dream Queen into his medicine pouch, forever.

"And now, on to Ranark." Shaman remarked.

Shaman vs. Ranark, the Ravager

"Bow before me, Shaman," Ranark said, stamping his feet on the ground. This causes an earthquake thast literally rocks Alpha Flight's world. The ground is uprooted, trees fall by the wayside, and a giant chasm opens up that many Alphans fall into.

Talisman is the first one to react. She uses her magic to stop the earthquake motions with Ranark's stamping feet and to lift the Alphans out of the chasm. They are thankful for her magic, especially Guardian and Vindicator who uses their powers to blast at Ranark's back. Ranark is stunned for the moment, as he turns his back to the Alphans, tearing his attention away from Shaman's attack.

Shaman had an idea that could spell doom for the other indian Shaman. He wanted to place him within his medicine pouch to entrap him forever. Him and Llan, too. But he suspects that Llan was nothing but a disembodied spirit now. Easier to trap, yes.

Kamikaze attacked next. He used his chinese throwing stars to hurl them at his back. This causes Ranark great pain. Then he takes out his sword. It gleams in the dimmed sunlight of the barren world. He swings left and right at the same time, immediately after one another.

With a handy swipe, he cut off a tuff of Ranark's hair, having it fall onto the ground below. Then, the indian shaman gets madder and madder and grabs Kamikaze's hand, having him drop the sword and is about to kill him outright.

"Now, Shaman," Kamikaze says, ordering him like a leader.

Shaman looks straight ahead at the power mad Ranark and throws the medicine pouch at him. The indian shaman knows enough not to look inside it but he can't evade its path. The pouch is just too powerful for him and he shrinks into a miniscule size and falls prey to its gigantic maw.

The pouch falls to the ground where Ranark once was.

"We won! We won!!!" Talisman says. She hugs her father and Snowbird, excited at their triumph.

"But what about Llan?" Vindicator asks.

Shaman approaches Heather. "He's nothing but a disembodied spirit now lost in Live World. We beat him. The threat is gone."

"Does that mean we can go home, Elizabeth?"

Talisman gestures with her hands and then a portal opens leading to the Alpha Complex. "We can go home. We are free of the triple mystic threat."
