MASTER PLANS

Part 4

by Gregg Epstein

The leader of Alpha Flight, James MacDonald Hudson wears a battle suit which allows him to tap into the Earth's EM field.

Guardian

The wife of Guardian, Heather Hudson wears a similar battle suit to her husband's. However, her suit allows her to control geothermal energies.

Vindicator

Formerly known as Box, Madison Jeffries possesses the ability to transmute metal into weapons. Recently, he and his wife, Diamond Lil, have returned to Alpha Flight.

Madison Jeffries

Lillian Crawley possesses extremely dense skin, which makes her resistant to injury and enhances her strength. She recently returned to Alpha Flight with her husband, Madison Jeffries.

Diamond Lil

A former espionage agent for Department H, Eugene Milton Judd is a long-standing member of Alpha Flight. Recently, he had a falling-out with Vindicator.

Puck

Latest in an ancient line of Sarcee medicine men, Michael Twoyoungmen derives mystic power from the protective spirits of the land through his leather medicine pouch. Shaman is also an accomplished physician.

Shaman

Elizabeth Twoyoungmen is the daughter of Shaman and the bearer of the mystic Talisman, granting her mystic powers in excess of even her father's.

Talisman

Anne McKenzie is the civilian identity of Snowbird, a northern demi-goddess -- born of a union between man and goddess -- whose true name is Narya. Raised by teammate Shaman, Narya has the ability to fly and to shapeshift into any creature of the North.

Snowbird

Renowned radiation scientist Walter Langkowski was bathed in Gamma radiation, giving him the ability to shapeshift into the mythical creature of the North, Sasquatch. Walter later found out that he was actually assuming the physical form of one of Canada's Great Beasts when he transformed. Walter enjoys a romantic relationship with Jeanne-Marie Beaubier, aka Aurora.

Sasquatch

A mutant with the powers of flight and super-speed, Jean-Paul Beaubier is a troubled young man, angry and standoffish. He is devoted to his sister, Aurora, and doesn't approve of her continuing relationship with Walter Langkowski, aka Sasquatch.

Northstar

The sister of Northstar suffers from a split personality -- the matronly, puritanical Jeanne-Marie and the funloving Aurora. As Aurora, she shares her brother's abilities of speed and flight. The twins may also pool their powers through physical contact, igniting a blinding burst of light.

Aurora

The successor of General Clarke, Gentry is the current Director of Department H. He's a lot more straight-forward with Alpha Flight than their previous director was.

Gentry

For the past few days, Bedlam the Brain Blast has been time traveling into different alternate realities into Alpha Flight’s past. Now he ventured into their present. Now he ventured to get at a member of Alpha flight that had quit recently; Northstar.

Even though he didn’t know where Jean-Paul’s spartment was he was able to search through Canada using his mental telepathy.

Northstar was something of a hot head when it came to Alpha Flight. Especially in terms of his sister who was now married to Sasquatch. For some reason unknown to all, he wanted nothing to do with Sasquatch and wanted Aurora all to himself.

Invisible, Bedlam entered an old hovel of an apartment and saw Northstar in his costume, looking at some old photographs of himself and his sister. He bent in closer for a better look. Jean-Paul was weeping. He was wondering what could have gone wrong. Jean-Paul never had a great love for the Flight but his sister loved it for some reason or another.

Bedlam made himself visible. “Northstar, I have need of you. Gamma Flight has a need of you.”

“I am not interested in any Flights. I want to be alone.”

“I’m sorry I can’t allow that. I may have to force you to come with me. I can use force.”

“Who are you? Did my sister send you?”

“No, she did not. I am Bedlam and Dr. Hudson created me before there was an Alpha Flight. I now work for Jerry Jaxon. As I said, I could force you. Waitaminute. I will force you.”

Bedlam concentrated and telepathic energy flowed from his mind to Northstar’s. Jean-Paul had no defense against this, when a great pain seized him and he collapsed, whimpering.

Bedlam looked around, he was confused. ‘That wasn’t supposed to happen. I know that wasn’t me.”

“Don’t worry, Bedlam, it was me,” Talisman said as she and her father Shaman entered the hovel. By this time Northstar had woken up. “Your telepathy has no effect on my magical powers. I simply put a mystical force field around Jean-Paul. Unfortunately the strain was too much for him.”

“NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!”

Bedlam encased himself in mental energy and headed toward the shoddy window. “I will get you for this. But be forewarned. Northstar is not crucial to my plans. Beware of Gamma Flight. We will get you and kill you for good this time.”

Bedlam teleported out of there.

Talisman raced over to Jean-Paul. “I’m sorry about that, Jean-Paul. I had to do that to free you of his attack.”

Shaman offered him a hand up. “Come with us, Alpha Flight needs you. The Plodex invasion and the Marrina clones are going to attack Canada now. We need your help.”

“’Plodex race’, ‘Marrina clones’? What the devil are you talking about?”

“We’ll explain on the way. Can you fly?”

“Yes, I can. But I want nothing to do with you or Alpha Flight anymore. As long as my sister is married to that bum, I want out.”

“Stop being a stubborn bastard and come with us. If you don’t, all civilization will die, including you.”

Northstar looked at Shaman straight in the eyes and agreed with his plan. Shaman teleported them all to the beaches of Lake Ontario.

Lake Ontario

Marrina was horrified, her clones were slaughtering Alpha Flight. She guessed that they were afraid to really cut loose into them. That was until Wyre and Kane showed up late of course.

Wyre used his machine gun to fire lasers and bullets into the soft hides of the Marrina clones and Kane just used his extended claws to slash and bash them.

Soon, a good portion of them were dead.

Wyre and Kane were tired so they let the rest of Alpha and Beta Flights handle them. Kamikaze used knockout gas and his Chinese Throwing Stars to kill the rest.

“Are you okay, Marry?”

Dei Guan was standing right beside Marrina who was crying over her dead clones.

“I know I shouldn’t feel this way, since they never really were me but I feel sad that they’re dead. Their only existence was to kill me and my friends. I should feel glad that they’re dead but I don’t. I feel sort of empty.”

“I know. Me, too.”

The Master’s Ship

The Master was not pleased.

“This will not do,” the Master of the World said. “Wyre and Kane has nearly singlehandedly defeated my Marrina clones and the rest of Alpha Flight is almost done with the Plodex race.”

“What are we gonna do now?” Strongarm asked.

The Master and Strongarm felt an incredible amount of mystical energy surround their ship and the Plodex ship.

“What’s happening?” the Master screamed.

“It’s Talisman and Shaman. They’re transporting us elsewhere. It looks like we’re a goner.”

The Master, the Plodex race, the rest of the Marrina clones, Omega Flight all disappeared, transported to Live World.

Alpha Flight won.

They were triumphant.

Alpha Flight was loading up all its members in the Omnijet while Puck and Marrina sat on the beach, just musing and talking about old times.

Marrina was crouched up against a rock, while Puck put a callused hand on her shoulder to calm her down. “Tough times, eh, Marry?” Puck asked.

“I guess so, Judd. Everytime I turn around I am either dead or the Master wants to kill me. And this time he really pulled the final straw. He sicced clones of myself on me and my friends.”

“I know, Marrina, and I’m really sorry it has come down to this. But you don’t have to worry about the Master and Omega flight anymore. They’re in Live World now.”

“I wish I could just believe that. He has been vanquished so many times and just as many times he has escaped to attack me and us again.”

“But let’s not worry about it now. Let’s just go home.”

Marrina stood up, took Puck’s hand, and they walked to the Omnijet.
