| While Alpha Flight was unconscious due to the energy beam that was blasted at them, the AIM agents stripped the appropriate members of their battlesuits, pouch, and tiara and put power-dampening shackles on the Beaubier twins, Langkowski, Jeffries, and Judd. Hours later, the Flight awoke to find themselves situated in a dungeon, accompanied by Lillian Crawley, also chained to a wall. James Macdonald Hudson did not like how his team's string of failures had brought them to this infernal place, at the hands of AIM, no less. "Any ideas, fearless leader?" Northstar asked of Hudson, as he groaned awake. He, along with the rest of the Flight, knew that their powers and special abilities were all but useless with the power-dampening devices linked to their wrists. "I'm open to suggestions," Guardian said, half facetiously. "It looks like we have to use something besides our powers and weapons to fight our way out of this one, Alpha. I do have a plan but first, I want to hear what this so-called Scientist Supreme has to say to us, exactly what kind of spiel he wants to thrust in our direction. So, stay quiet, and let me think." Actually, Guardian didn't have much of a plan to speak of since he didn't know exactly what the Scientist Supreme, the supposed leader of this faction of AIM, wanted of him and the rest of the Flight. Primarily, he was concerned with the recent resurrection of Snowbird, who was believed dead long ago, at an AIM factory, and why MODOK had kidnapped him and now Kamikaze had done the same for the rest of Alpha Flight. What had MODOK really wanted with Snowbird, a mystical being? And why himself? He posed no threat to an American splinter group of Hydra but it seemed recently that Alpha had battled several American criminal organizations, like Hydra and the Zodiac Cartel. The American criminals had a decisive interest in Canada. It puzzled him but he was determined to find the answer before this confrontation was done. A door to the dungeon opened and in walked the Scientist Supreme, accompanied by a small cadre of AIM agents. He appeared to be confident in his power struggle and the end of Alpha Flight. He approached Guardian and shone a powerful light display on the members of the Flight. The light brought new knowledge. "In the last couple of decades, since the beginning of the second World War, people have become possessed of great and potentially dangerous powers. Some of them gained these powers by accident, while others were born with them and the powers manifested themselves at puberty, or even later on in life. A lot of these super-powered beings decided to use their new-found abilities for the good of mankind, just like yourself, Mr. Hudson. "You see yourself as Canada's answer to that Star Spangled infidel, Captain America. He is a recurring thorn in our side, along with the director of SHIELD, Nick Fury. Even, our off-again, on-again leader, MODOK has fought those two heroes and come up empty handed. And also, that cosmic powerhouse, Quasar, who fought MODAM and that metallic mostrosity, Iron Man, who also fought MODOK and the then division of AIM. Simply, we were not prepared to deal with individuals who are not possessed of super human powers but rather possessed of incredible scientific weaponry. You are evidence of that, Mr. Hudson. "Since the birth of the super hero, which is believed to be in the late 1930s, science has increased dramatically. New weapons have been developed and some scientists have even deduced how to transform a normal human being, like myself, into a super being. With this new age of science development, a new order has been birthed. "I, the Scientist Supreme, am one of thousands in this new order. We call ourselves AIM, which is an acronym for Advanced Idea Mechanics. Our goal in life is to combine science with super abilities and to take over this third planet from the sun, this orb of life, this earth. "Humans are ever so susceptible to our ever-increasing influence, but still we are challenged. The super champions, in time, will fall before our superior might and soon, o so very soon, the world will follow suit. "Watch and learn." To illustrate his point, the Scientist Supreme pressed a computerized stud on a console and instantly, a hologram was projected above the Alphans. It showed pictures of their laboratory and the AIM scientists working hard on computer terminals and experimenting on mutants and paranormals, alike, to achieve their evil ends. James Macdonald Hudson listened intently. "Good. You are beginning to understand our ways, James, my dear man." The Scientist Supreme let out a deep breath, or was it a sigh of relief. "Of late, we have realized that, to gain mastery of the planet, we must use super beings of our own. Our 'new' agents have been trained in the best use of their powers and to have no will, but ours. WE have used our new cranial device which some of our laborers have dubbed the 'Brainwaver' which causes this effect in people. This device has other uses, like when we used it on Diamond Lil to divulge Alpha Flight's secrets. "This town, London, Canada, is our base headquarters. This is where we reside, when we do not have work to do elsewhere. Now, we have decided to continue our spread to the rest of America to take over New York. That will probably take us many months of intensive research and hard work. "You are probably wondering, James, what we have done with our operative, Kamikaze. When we arrived here, half a year ago, we easily seized control of their minds. Like our agents, they obeyed our every command. We also gave them teleporter devices. These 'Teleportas' allow its user to teleport into their safe houses at the first sign of trouble. You, James Hudson, and your team of costumed adventurers are that trouble." "So, this was your plan with Snowbird? To mass-produce agents of your own, to do your bidding for you?" Hudson's brow was creased with rage, as the anger flooded his system. "No, that was what MODOK's division of AIM was in the process of doing. Our plan is simply to have super beings of our own to take over this paltry planet that you call Earth. We will succeed where Hydra has numerously failed. Our agents are only mortal, as you well know, but you and your team of Alpha Flight are nearly immortal, possessed of super powers. You, Hudson, should know the feeling of immortality more than any of your members, now, shouldn't you?" "So, what becomes of us? We're just lab rats for your sick, twisted experiments?! You're mad if you think we're going to let you get away with this?" "You will die, Alpha Flight, but only after we transfer your powers to our super androids. Like we did with the Kane construct. As he was destroyed, so will you be, eventually." Then, the Scientist Supreme left the dungeon, allowing Alpha Flight and especially, James Macdonald Hudson to ponder what was just spoken between two opposing forces. A time later, a door opened to the dank and dirty dungeon where Alpha Flight was being safely secured. Hudson knew that during the time that they were kept captive AIM was in the process of working their duplication experiments on their costumes and appartus. What made this AIM agent entering just then meant that the experiments on those that possessed superhuman and mutant powers would begin anew. It only was a matter of time before he chose the desired Alphan. He approached Aurora, Jeanne-Marie Beaubier. Before Hudson could act or react, Walter Langkowski did and said what was rightfully on his mind. "What do you want from her? You've no right to use her for your twisted schemes!" The AIM agent placed a gentle hand on the groggy Beaubier's chin and lifted her head to his. If he wasn't wearing a mask, he would have kissed her on the lips. "She's cute, this fine fluff of a girl. If she's nice, I may yet get to play with her and have my way with her." "You crazy - I'll kill you first." "Like hell you will, I'll have your life before you do anything." Without knowing what was happening, Walter Langkowski lunged forward, wrapping his hands around the AIM agent's throat, strangling him to near-death. The agent choked, grasping for his throat with one hand and with the other he reached for his gun, ready to blast Langkowski. Langkowski kept on strangling him, then swatted the gun away with his foot. "Now, if you don't want me to kill you, you will tell me where the key is to these chains and power dampening bracelets on our wrists, so we can kick your butt to kingdom come! So, play nice! Capeesh?" The AIM agent nodded. Langkowski let him go and watched as he searched his pockets for the key chain that held the key to their chains. Hudson smiled. He never knew that Langkowski had so much gumption within him but then he realized that he was a former football linebacker and could fight his way out of any battle. One by one, the AIM agent released all of the captured Alphans. The whole time he was shivering with fear. "Now, to find our costumes and appartus," Hudson said. "And you better not trick us like that Scientist Supreme was planning on doing." Again, the agent nodded, obeying their commands. "Alpha Attack!" With those words, spoken by James Macdonald Hudson, who was known in his guise as Guardian, the entire Alpha Flight team burst their way through the hidden chamber where their costumes were hidden from AIM's clutches. Hudson was ready to do battle, as he suspected was the rest of his team. Upon seeing the freed Alphans, the Scientist Supreme announced to his fellow AIM agents, "Get them! Do not let them escape! And Kamikaze," he said to his one superpowered opeartive, "Deal with these infidels!" "As you wish, sire!" With that, Kamikaze pounced in the air, riding the airwaves, and entered the battle. Using his gas grenades as his primary weaponry, he threw them on the ground in front of Alpha Flight, watching them explode and let loose a wispy gas. The surprised Alphans held their breath, knowing full well from experience what they were up against, and scattered into separate teams. "Take them down, Alpha," Guardian announced to his team. "I want to end this and I want to end this now!" As he flew in the air encircling the scattered AIM agents, Guardian saw that Kamikaze was coming to him, again pouncing in the air. He went wide-eyed, astonished at this maniac ninja, zeroing in on him. "You're a dead man, Hudson," Kamikaze said, slyly to his opponent. "And I will be the one to put you in the grave." "Not on your life, buster," Hudson remarked. Before Kamikaze was able to start his fight, Diamond Lil jumped in the air and brought Kamikaze down to the ground. "You have got to stop this, Kamikaze," Diamond Lil explained to him. "You have no reason to fight us! We're here to help you!" "You crazy-" Kamikaze lunged forward and tried to ensnare Diamond Lil but she punched him hard in the stomach, sending him reeling backwards against the far wall. "Stop this! You have to trust us! Please, Kamikaze, trust us-" With fear in his eyes, Kamikaze ran away, as he saw the rest of Alpha Flight converging on him. He disappeared. "Now, I wonder where he went," Diamond Lil remarked. "Let's take these AIM agents down!" Guardian announced to his team again. Walter Langkowski clenched his fists, as he transformed into his orange furry self... into Sasquatch. Puck cartwheeled into action. "These losers should know what being an Alphan means, eh?" "Okay, let's do it," Sasquatch responded. Guardian used his electro-magnetic powers and Vindicator her geo-thermal powers to blast the AIM agents away. They flew about the place, going their separate ways. Sasquatch and Puck used their strength to physically punch the agents away. Northstar and Aurora linked hands to blind them. The AIM agents scrambled and used their teleporter devices to disappear to another place. "Looks like they left us," Hudson said, in after-thought. "Let's search this laboratory and find out what's what." |
