Gentry | Toronto "By all that is unholy, Alpha Flight will die!! So swears White Light!!" the demon-snakeman said. Encircling him, his personal cadre of devout followers renewed their attack on the Canadian super team. They were born from the procreation of Set and Dagger. The birth triggered the transformation from a normal, human child and his army of twins to beings of pure energy. When they remained in human form, they were half-man, half-snake. The Omnijet stayed in a hovering position above the city, while Alpha Flight exited through the landing hatch. "I don't care how long it takes my team but we will stop your reign of terror!" Guardian proclaimed. James Hudson bit his lower lip in disdain because he feared that his boasts were purely empty. He could die fighting White Light (the demon lord was reputed to be that powerful) as he died numerous times before. As Guardian fired twin bolts of electromagnetic pulses at the source of the danger, Sasquatch punched his enemy. "Waltair, beware! He's about to-" Aurora warned, flying overhead. White Light had evaded both of their attacks, while firing a beam of solid light at Walter's abdomen. "-shoot you with his white light beam." Aurora covered her eyes with her hand as she cringed. "Babe, you could have warned me," Sasquatch said, standing up. "You should have known I didn't see that." "Sorry, 'Squatch. No time to dally, lover. Let's attack him." "Them, babe, are fighting words." Meanwhile, Snowbird transformed into a great white polar bear, rushing White Light. Her claws slashed at her foe's uniform. "How do you like that?" White Light asked. "A babe godling in a human's skin." He shot beams of energy from each of his fingertips at Narya's eyes, causing her to revert back to her female form. She was down for the count. Guardian frowned. If this was the best that the new, reduced Alpha Flight can do... then, he would have to come up with a new stratagem. Harlem When Harada arrived in New York City , Kamikaze found out that Harlem was a much busier city than Canada can ever hope to be. Well, if this is going to be my home now, the Japanese-Canadian thought, I might as well start honing my fighting style and make this place my home. There was a blast of energy from one of the abandoned apartment buildings down the street and Kamikaze was ready for action. When he surveyed the devastation, he saw that the origin of the energy blast had come from a gun. Just because he didn't carry guns, that didn't mean other people didn't. What he saw was a man cloaked in armor, a virtual robot man, who wasn't shy about killing innocent people. Underneath his mask, Kamikaze smiled. This was going to be fun, he mused. He took out his ninja sword and sliced the robot man's AK 47 machine gun in half, the business end falling to the ground below along with the rest. As a final stroke, Kamikaze swung his sword and it landed at the robot's chin, or where it would be placed on his metallic body. "Game's over, reject," Kamikaze snarled. "Care to try again?" "I would love to. But I didn't come alone. The name's Psi-bot, and these are my friends, the rest of the Drug Mutants. Better luck next time." "Wha?!" Kamikaze spat out as he saw that he was surrounded by other criminals. His first outing as an American super hero and this had to happen. Giganto had lifted him up by the torso and flung him into the old tenement building that Psi-bot was blasting before. Kamikaze didn't have time to disappear and teleport to another place. The giant's movements were that instantaneous. Maybe coming to America was not such a bright idea, the ninja thought as he sprung into action and hurled a Chinese throwing star at Giganto's eyes, making them bleed profusely. "Who's next?" Kamikaze said, as he watched Giganto drop to his knees on the street, halting traffic. Suddenly, a SWAT van pulled out and out from its back doors came several Code: Blue agents brandishing weaponry at the Drug Mutants that Kamikaze had defeated. Code: Blue had thanked Harada for his assistance but reassured him that they could handle it. Satisfied that his work here was done, Kamikaze began to walk away, when a familiar red, white, and blue costumed figure landed from a rooftop to an alley below him. "Long time, no see, Kamikaze?" the figure asked. (This subplot will be continued in M2K's Captain America #24-Gregg.) At Roger Bochs' apartment, the owner of that dwelling place watched the television screen, in horror. He couldn't believe his eyes. Alpha Flight had made the six o'clock news again. It looked like he and his team of Gamma Flight had to save the day, before Alpha messed things up. "Hey, guys," Roger said, wheeling himself away from the TV set to his suit of Box armor at the foot of the closet. "I think it's time for us to go into action." He got no answer. They were ignoring him. They were too busy doing other things to heed his battle cry. For instance, Flashback was in the other room, watching some DVDs he bought at Blockbuster video. Scramble was eating some potato chips, writing a Tom Clancy novel and laughing through it. And finally, Smart Alec was stretching his mind by doing some physics equations. "This does not look well," Bochs said. "How Guardian does it with his ragtag team, I will never know." He sighed and looked at his paraplegic stumps. "If only I could walk again, this would be so much easier." Roger looked at his Box armor and shouted, "Phase in." Suddenly, his molecules were reconfigured and meshed into the form of Box. Once inside, he turned on his audio receptors so that he could talk within the armor. "Hehe. This should be fun." His jet thrusters were turned on and he flew over the remaining members of Gamma Flight. As he did this, they continued to ignore him and engaged in their everyday activities. Scramble was the first one to look up. "What's up, doc?" he said. "Tryin' to make a doofus out of yourself? I'll take care of that." Lionel Jeffries touched Box's chest and phased out Roger. Flashback hurled the wheelchair to Box and Bochs plopped on it. "If you wanted to tell us something, all you had to do was say so," Gardner Fox said. "We can take a hint." "My bad," Bochs said, out of breath from the ordeal. "All I wanted to say was that Alpha Flight is in trouble fighting White Light and I think we should help. What d'ya say, Gang? Are we up to the challenge? I think this would be a great way for us to go public, instead of being the Flight's enemies?" "Gamma, Go!!" they all shouted in unison. They thought that this would a simple grab and go job but what they didn't know was that White Light had an ace up his sleeve. Toronto , again. "Okay, you've made me mad, White Light," Sasquatch said, after he carried the unconscious Snowbird to Shaman's side so that Michael could heal her back to health. "You've kayoed Narya without a thought. You've put me through a loop. Now, Walter Langkowski gets his revenge!" "I think not." The White Light demons had pounced on top of Sasquatch and bathed him in pure energy. "Where's Talisman when we need her?" Sasquatch asked. "I bet she could transport these idjits to a nether realm or wherever these bastards come from." The energy that encased Sasquatch had forced the man-beast to transform into his human form. White Light had picked him up and hurled him at the awestruck Alpha Flight. "Yo, Twoyoungmen," he shouted, "here's another one for ya." "This does not look good, James," Shaman said, dragging Walter over to the side of Snowbird. "We have to think of something to do about this mess before he hurts innocent people." "I know, Michael," Guardian said, powering up. "Just don't begrudge me, okay?" "You're the leader, James." "Don't remind me." But before Guardian could command the rest of Alpha Flight to attack, they saw that three teams had arrived to join the fight; Beta, Gamma, and Delta Flights. White Light was going down, for sure. White Light saw that he was outnumbered and knew he had to do something to turn the tide. He shot a wide beam of light at Alpha Flight, and the entire area was engulfed in that energy beam. "Llan!! I need your help," White Light shouted. A ball of energy encased White Light and he vanished. "What was that all about?' Flashback asked. "One minute you guys are fighting that jerk and the next, he's gone. What gives?" He paused and then continued. "Anywho, I thought 'Squatch and 'bird were down for the count, now you're all right and standing to boot." Sasquatch grinned. "We got better." "Well, I think it's safe to say that Llan the Sorcerer is helping White Light out," Guardian said. "He called his name right before he disappeared." He paused. "I think the Alpha Flight team should return to HQ and the rest should go on home. If we want your help, we'll call you. And not a second before." Shaman reached inside his pouch and eldritch energy leaked out to transport Alpha Flight home, leaving startled former members of the team. "Uh, what was that all about?" |
