Gardner Monroe was laying facedown in his bed within his apartment in Montreal. He had lost a lot of sleep the past couple of weeks since his Future Man (Gardner Fox) had escaped his attention and joined the ranks of Gamma Flight. He didn't think that any of his Future Men could have minds of their own. But then, they were a part of him, from a different time in his future. In this day and age, anything was possible. He had kept himself quiet up until this point but since he had a psychic link with his Future Men, especially Gardner Fox, he knew what his next plans were. Fox had joined with several members of the former Alpha Flight ( Box, Scramble, and Smart Alec II). Talisman had transported them to their own dimension and own time in the past but Gamma Flight had teamed up with the Derangers, ever since their leader Bedlam had perished at the hands of Kane. Gardner had gotten out of bed, donned his Flashback costume, and prepared to go to the Alpha Complex to warn the Flight of his Future Man's plan of attack. A light appeared and several figures exited the portal. He recognized the man in the back as Gardner Fox. The rest of Gamma Flight and the Derangers came into his apartment. "What do you want with me, Fox?" Monroe asked. Fox approached the host body, or as he liked to call it the doppleganger. "How soon you forget we share a psychic link. Once I learned of your plan to warn Alpha Flight, as I'm sure you knew that we planned to attack them, I knew I had to stop you." "That is where you're wrong," Monroe said, as several popping sounds appeared around his body. And suddenly, a whole army of Future Men surrounded Fox. "No, it is where you are wrong, Monroe," Fox commanded. "Because I now control the Future Men." "How can that be? You are a Future Man." "Not only am I a Future Man but I am you in the future who has the power to control the actions of all and any Future Men you can summon." Monroe was aghast. He was flabbergasted. "No!! That's impossible!!" Fox grabbed Monroe by his costume and hurled him into the portal, even as it closed shut around him. "With him out of the way," Fox said. "We can conduct our business…" "Hey, Fox, I'm the boss around here," Box said through his neuro-implants. "And you will take orders from me, not you." "Like a fat lot of good your orders has done us in the past," Fox said. Scramble separated the two. "Enough arguing. Fox, you took care of Monroe, but we may need to deal with him when we return to our HQ. I say we listen to Box. He didn't make that many mistakes." They all nodded their assent.
Sasquatch's Apartment "What do you mean you're leaving me?" Walter Langkowski asked as he watched his wife Aurora take off her veil after Northstar's funeral. "I thought you were happy with me. We've been together for nearly twenty years. That is an extremely long time to be dating before one gets married. I just have to ask you why." "It's very complicated, Waltair. My brothair is dead. I just can't believe that he is gone. Oui, we may have our difficulties and differences but he is still my brothair." She stopped and then, continued. "And it's your fault!" "Excuse me?" "You should never have agreed to assist him in fighting Caliber. You know that Jean-Paul has no defense against Caliber's machine gun arm. You know how headstrong he can be." "To be frank, I don't think I could have deterred him. Why didn't you say something? Instead of being useless." They stared into each other's eyes. "Aurora," Walter said," I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" "That just proves that we are not right for each other." "Aurora, please, you can't leave me. I couldn't survive without you." Aurora frowned. "Don't be a weak little man. Or I'll never take you back. I think we need some time alone. To think, to reevaluate our lives. I may be back in a year or two. I don't know." "Please-" "Goodbye, Dr. Langkowski." She opened the door. "I'll be back for my stuff later." Aurora slammed the door closed behind Walter. He was alone for the first time in a long time. His world was falling apart.
Upon his request, an Omnijet drops off Madison Jeffries at a lone street in Montreal. Jeffries was a man on a mission. He had a nasty feeling that Gamma Flight would return to present-day Canada after Talisman teleported them to their own time in the past. Jeffries had some loose ends to settle with his best friend and his brother. Wearing a jetpack, he flew from the open hatch of the Omnijet to an alley way. He may not be Box anymore (that he reserved for his friend) but he was able to destroy Gamma Flight all by his lonesome because he contained the mutant ability to control everything metal. He suddenly sees a couple of youths attacking a senior citizen for his pension checks. Jeffries knows that he must stop this before it is too late. Every life is precious and then he can continue his search for Gamma Flight. Pressing a stud on his utility belt, Jeffries activates the jet pack and soars above the three criminals. "You must be a bunch of first-rate cowards," Jeffries says, launching himself into battle. "Picking on ol' Grandpa here. Try pickin' on someone yer own size. Like me, fer instance." "Waste the mother!!" one of them shouts, pulling an Uzi. He fires rapidly at the approaching Jeffries. "An' I thought I speak in broken English! Yer a winning prize." He deflected the gun's bullets with ease and imbedded in the wall behind the criminals. He landed between the gunman and his two cohorts. He was ready for a fight. A black gloved hand grabbed the back of Jeffries' hair and pulled him onto the ground. The shock caused Madison to turn his head slightly to look at the man who had done this brash act. It was Gardner Fox. It was- "Flashback!" Madison snarled. "We meet again, traitorous one. You never should have joined Alpha Flight. You were much happier in Gamma Flight. I know I am." Flashback pulled Madison closer to his masked face so that he could whisper in his ear. "You're not the one I want. We already took care of my host body. Gardner Monroe wants to be a hero, not a villain like me. What a fool he is. He's stuck in the past. Our past. Never to return. All that remains is for us-for Gamma Flight-to exact our revenge on Alpha Flight and continue Mr. Jaxon's plan of destroying Guardian and the team he holds dear to him." "The problem with you super villains is that you talk too much. You've definitely got the monologue down pat. While you should be concentrating on the moment at hand," Madison said, as he activated his jetpack mentally and flew circles in the air around Gamma Flight. This seemed to surprise Flashback a bit but only for a split second. "Box, deal with him!" Flashback said. "I thought I was the leader here," Roger Bochs snarled through his voice imprints. "But hey, I like beating up on Maddie here any day of the week." Box also had the ability to fly and after grabbing his foe's jetpack, he ripped it to shreds. Box threw it on the ground, in pieces. Madison plummeted to the alley. "What did you do to me?" he asked. "Without your Box armour, you're pretty much useless." Box punched Madison upside the head, causing the Alpha to collapse to the ground, and fall into unconsciousness.
Alpha Complex Guardian assembled an emergency meeting of Alpha Flight to find the missing whereabouts of Madison Jeffries. Hudson knew that Jeffries took the reemergence of Gamma Flight personally and wanted to see about their reforming at his hands. He stood at the head of the table, along with Mr. Gentry. "We have to find my hubbie, Maddie," Diamond Lil said, still almost ready to pop. "I knew I should never have let him go on this solo mission. We can't let something awful happen to him as it did to Jean-Paul. I can't bear losing him as I did Kamikaze." "Duly noted," Guardian said. "Now, onto my plan of rescuing Mr. Jeffries…" Suddenly, their telecommunications center buzzed to life as an image took form on the screen. It was Gardner Fox, disguised as Flashback. When the image came in clear, he started his monologue again. "We of Gamma Flight has taken Madison Jeffries prisoner in hopes that Guardian will surrender to his for combat. We want your head, Hudson, and nothing more." "Great Scott," Guardian shouted. "If you do have him, I want to make sure he's alright." "Just to make you feel at ease, I will grant you your request," Flashback said. "Here he is…" Scramble wheeled in a chair with a beaten up, bloodied Madison Jeffries. "And we are in the past, where you can't find us. Ta-ta fer now, kiddies. Good luck finding us, Alpha Flight." The image screen faded to black. Guardian turned to Talisman. "Liz, can you use your mystical might to find them. You transported them to the past before, could you do the same to the entire team?" "I think I can, Guardian." Talisman stood up and gestured wildly. "But with Northstar dead and Aurora and Sasquatch gone for the nonce, we are severely understaffed. But I will try." "Go for it, Talisman. I have faith in you." Elizabeth nodded and Alpha Flight disappeared. Diamond Lil stayed behind because she was no use in a fight if she were still preggers.
The past Flashback held onto Madison Jeffries' bruised chin and bloodied jaw as he was able to exact his revenge on him. "As long as you stay unconscious you won't be able to use your transmutating power over anything metal on Box or Scramble or me, for that matter. Now all we have to do is wait for Guardian and the rest of Alpha Flight to arrive. What are your last requests, Madison?" Jeffries mumbled something inarticulate. Flashback couldn't hear what he was trying to say and he was sure neither did Jeffries. "And now-" A mystical light appeared and then, so did Alpha Flight arrive at the scene. Guardian fired an EM pulse at Flashback's backside, causing him to move away from a defeated Madison Jeffries. "I won't give you a second chance, Fox!" Guardian commanded. "Let him go." "So, you think that you can rescue him just like that. Well you got another think coming." Gardner Fox concentrated and a whole army of Future Men popped into existence. "We are prepared for you." Box lifted Madison off the chair and hurled him into the air above him. Madison fell to the ground like deadweight. Box then punched Guardian slamming the leader of Alpha Flight onto the wall. Lucky for Hudson he had his forcefield up and running. Scramble approached Vindicator. "'Member when I disfigured you, Heather. Want some again?" he asked, lifting a finger to her chin. Before he was able to touch her with his flesh weilding touch, she blasted him with a geothermal pulse. Scramble felt the shock and backed away. He would have to try his touch on someone else. Puck, perhaps. Smart Alec took off his mask. Underneath he was Brainwave. The master telepath who once worked for AIM alongside Kamikaze. "Now with Harada in Japan searching for his father, there is no one to prevent me from doing this!" Brainwave stretched his mind to their limits and beyond and caused all of Alpha Flight to fall into unconsciousness. His mental powers were that vast. He then grabbed Shaman's pouch and without looking inside, transported them all to Live World for the final battle.
