"THE KNIGHTS OF THE WOLF"

| WHAT HAS GONE BEFORE: Mr. Satan has been released from jail and has reinstated the Knights of the Wolf cult. Ever since Jack Russell has escaped that cult, Mr. Satan wanted revenge on him and has used his agents of evil to hunt him down. Shang-chi, the Master of Kung Fu, is also searching for them to put them back into prison. And Alpha Flight is caught in the middle. The chase is on...Canada. The room was very smoky. It was hot, humidity lingering in the still air. A female vampire leaned back on the couch. A cigarette was hanging from her crimson lips and she inhaled the nicotine. She absolutely loved these cancer sticks. Mr. Satan sat at his desk, fidgeting with his many papers. Files and documents littered the desk top. "Still ticked off at the fight," Rachel said flatly. "No," he replied, matter-of-factly, "I am not. I am rather displeased with that, yes, but not 'ticked off'." He gazed at her through the lenses on his mask. "Are you, by chance, getting bored, my dear?" Cigarette smoke flew past her face. "What do you think?" He returned to his papers. "So, what is next on your brilliant master plan, o leader?" "If you're bored, I have a small job for you." "This better be good." "It is. See how business is going at the Alpha Complex." Staring at him constantly, Rachel stood up and left the room, slamming the door. Mr. Satan opens the file closest to him. Hmm. I wonder what Solarman is doing at this time of year? The Alpha Complex. Solarman tapped on the computer keyboard. An image appeared. A complete file of the guy that attacked Shang-chi and Jack Russell. "Have you found anything yet?" Guardian asked entering the room. Ben turned toward him. "No, sorry, nothing yet." "Who's the guy?" "It says here," he read from the screen, "that it's a man known only as Mr. Satan. He was seen a lot in the New York district." "I thought that I would never say this, but I never heard of him." “Hmmm.” Heather Hudson strolled in. "Anything?" "Not'ing, honey," Ben says. "Funny, very funny." Guardian walked over to her. "Where's the rest of the team?" "Y'got me." "Heather, we have to talk." "Sure." They exited, Mac's arm around her shoulders. Mr. Satan saw the store display of televisions through the metal grating. A news report rapidly flashed on. A blond female reporter began to speak strongly into her microphone. "In other news, New York has faced a terrible blow to its underside. Hours later, the authorities had found a body on Main Street, belonging to Jack Russell. His face has crushed in partly and caked with blood. He is presently at New Hope Memorial Hospital, awaiting surgery. What this reporter would like to know is, who this mysterious killer is and will he just kill criminals or will he start to kill some honest citizens, like yours truly? This is Melodi Hammersen of WCBC TV." I’m bad, he thought, but I bet he never got his ass kicked by Jack Russell. Let's see him do that, then we'll see. He glanced at his watch. It read a quarter past two. He's late for a very important date. He better hurry or the man will-- he just better hurry. Alpha Flight are gonna need me, soon. Ben Tucker walked down a street in the suburbs of Canada. He was surrounded by all kinds of shops. Ahead of him, he saw a construction site. Some people were tearing down part of the building, others were piledriving the cement, and still others just laid around on the job. It was a terribly long walk from the phone booth and he decided to stop at the site. He felt the sun bake down against his back. He tapped that piledriver on the back. He turned to face him. "Yes, sir?" "What are you tearing this building for?" "We're tearing it because it's there." Okay, Ben thought to himself. Curiosity wracking his brain, he decided to talk to the boss of this whole operation. He slowly opened the door that led to the front office. A man was talking on the phone. He quickly ducked behind the door. "Yeh, sir," the man said into the phone. "I understand completely. They're as good as dead." Albert Menken stormed out of the office and raced past the hiding Tucker. When he was officially away, Ben entered the empty office. He started to read the numerous papers on the desk. One particular one caught his eye. It was a contract, one that had most of Alpha Flight’s names on it. A possible murder attempt? One of the few female workers—Janet Windsor-- walked into the office. Hmm, she thought, I thought Albert was supposed to be here. Seems empty, to me. She took off her work hat and opened a box of power tools. Footsteps. Behind her? Her eyes flashed open. Ben Tucker leapt from the darkness and tackled her, strangling her in a weird chokehold. "Okay, sister, start talking. What's going on here?" "Nothing," she uttered, choking. "Liar! Is there a new Knights of the Wolf forming?! Is there?!!" "Oh no." "Now, will you talk?" Janet’s fingernails had turned into razor-sharp claws and slashed at Ben’s arm. Ben had fallen to the ground in pain. "What are you, a Flight spy?" Again, Janet slashed him with her claws. Consciousness flooded his body, in seconds. Albert Menken raced into the office. "What th' hell just happened?!" "The guy over there's a spy. Trust me on this one." A long finger riddled with callouses pressed down on the 'speaking' button. "Mrs. Jackson?" "Yes." "I'll be leaving now. I'm going to take the rest of the day off." "Who's the girl, Mr. Hudson?" "You'd like her, Mrs. Jackson, her name is--" There was a sudden burst of silence over the machine. "Now, why did you do that?" The woman, lying nearly prone on the desk, smiled back at him. Her eyes glowed crystal blue. "It was boring. I have other things in mind." "A woman after my own heart." "Among other things..." Mac managed a coy laugh. "You're a tricky one, Mrs. Hudson." She giggled mostly to herself, nuzzled her cold nose against the nape of his neck, and laughed with him. "He's not here!" Menken hissed hitting the mirror hanging on the wall shattering it into a thousand pieces. "He's not here!" He had gone to a lot of trouble following that Windsor woman around. She had led him here. He walked over to the desk in the corner and began to look through the papers. There were bills, and fan mail, and copies of his personal documents like his birth certificate.... Well, well. As the old saying went, if you can’t kill them all, go for their leader. "Canada, here I come." he said. 'I will not lose,' Menken thought to himself as he looked over his list. Of course, he'd have to make accommodations for his new members....but that was easily done. 'Once Alpha Flight are taken care of, there will be nobody to stop me from taking over the world! Nobody!' He looked back at his list again and then smiled. The world was his. Alpha Flight had tracked the Knights of the Wolf to a lonely mansion on the outskirts of town. Mr. Satan and the cultists were housed within. Guardian used his EM field to blast indoors. And that was when the battle began. Albert Menken had brainwashed Jack Russell, Shang-chi, Solarman, Sasquatch, and Kamikaze, who then proceeded to attack the remainder of Alpha Flight. Kamikaze and Shang-chi vaulted in the air to pounce on top of Guardian and Vindicator, respectively. Then, they took off their cyber-helmets, disabling their suits. They fell to the ground. While they were preparing for battle, Madison Jeffries had developed a serum to counteract the spell that Menken had over the heroes. He hurled five needles at them and one at Menken. Solarman changed back to Ben Tucker once it had gotten cloudy out. Sasquatch and the Werewolf by Night transformed back into their civilian identities. Shang-chi and Kamikaze went into a trance. Guardian and his wife picked up their helmets and placed them over their heads. Mac addressed the frantic cultists. “You are now free. Mr. Satan has no more control over you. His powers are neutralized by the drug we administered. I will let you go back to your normal lives, given that you will never interfere with us or anyone again.” Confused, the teens and young adults who were creatures of the night dispersed and went home. Guardian turned to a bloody Jack Russell. “I know that Mr. Satan beat you up quite well. If you come to the Alpha Complex, you can go to the infirmary to get some fresh bandages. I assume that you have friends who want to know if you are all right.” “Thank you, Guardian. I think I will take you up on that offer.” “And Shang-chi, I know that you were brainwashed for most of this trip, but I sense that you are a great warrior and you work well with Kamikaze and the rest of the team. I would like to invite you to join the team.” For a moment, Shang-chi looked at the other members of Alpha Flight and thought of the battle they just had. ”I would be honored to join your team.” Then, he bowed in respect.
