"Patrol Force"

By Brent Lambert

Vision, Iceman, and Pyro entered into the office of Cable each of them unsure of why they had been called here in the first place. Their teammates were injured and they felt that was where they needed to be. Whatever Cable had in mind for them could surely be handled by a couple of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

"Glad to see you guys showed up. I understand times are stressful, but this mission I have for you is more important. If you haven't heard a group of Cuban scientists have developed a new powerful cancer-fighting group. The U.S., Russia, China, Japan, and the Cuban government are all meeting in Paris to discuss how the drug should be marketed. There is some controversy over the drug since it was tested on human subjects in a less than humane manner."

Pyro cocked his head to the side and shrugged, "What does that have to do with us?"

"Be silent and you might find out," Iceman said smiled at John. Pyro's rashness and all out American rudeness fascinated and amused Bobby.

Cable coughed and continued on, "There is rumor that the meeting will be halted by a terrorist attack of some sort. We're not sure from whom or what so I want you three there to have both a S.H.I.E.L.D. presence and a super powered presence. We have also confirmed that the Foreigner and a group of his assassin's are part of the Chinese diplomat's entourage. I could simply allow Foreigner to handle any disturbance that might happen during the meeting, but that wouldn't look too good on me. Especially since everything is on such shaky ground these days."

"Consider us on this mission then. Any drug that could be as useful as you claim this one to be could benefit all nations and not just the ones at this meeting," Vision said echoing the feelings of his teammates. Iceman and Pyro nodded in agreement.

Before Cable dismissed them Pyro raised his hand and made an insightful comment, "I don't see how my country would attend this meeting considering our embargo with Cuba. Wouldn't this new cancer drug be included in it?"

"Honestly I'm not sure John. I'm pretty positive Cuba is going to want to be in control of this drug entirely considering it's pretty much a gold mine. Whatever the U.S. is doing there I'm sure they'll get what they want in the end," Cable said dismissing the three heroes.

"So he teams all three of us together. Have any of you ever heard of the Three Stooges?" Pyro asked Vision and Iceman. Bobby gave John a perplexed look and Vision got a sudden glow in his expression.

"I watch that show all the time! Well, at least I use to when I first was built. I really don't have too much time for it these days," Vision finished his appearance turning more somber at the thought of his teammates. Two of them had given there all for the cause and he would never forget them for it.

"Are you implying we are equivalent to these….Three Stooges?" Iceman asked still slightly confused as to who these television characters were.

"Well, there are some slight differences. For one I wouldn't dream of hitting Vision out of the blue. The guy makes Vin Diesel look like a pansy! And for another none of the Three Stooges were as good looking or as witty as me," Pyro explained throwing in a bit of flattery to increase his already large ego.

"Then they must have been the ugliest blokes that have ever seen the face of the Earth. I'm quite glad I have no idea who they are. My eyes can only take so much," Iceman replied. He enjoyed taking stabs at Pyro whenever he could. In the end though it was all in good fun.

"Real funny, but I wonder how many girls you got with the name Bobby. What did you do man? Beat your Mom on the way out because you would have had to have done something incredibly horrible to get a name that bad," Pyro teased.

Vision feeling a little left out chimed in his own experience, "Actually I remember a meeting a boy named Nosmo, who was an American tourist, while I was in Germany. We talked for quite a bit since our fathers were old acquaintances. I asked him how he had gotten such a unique name and he told me his mother took the first few letters from the NO SMOKING sign in front of her as she gave birth."

First there was silence and all it took was the minor leaking of a giggle for all three to bust out in a roar of laughter. Pyro had to sit down on bench because he was laughing so hard. Vision was gasping for breath and Iceman had tears coming down his eyes.

"Whoo wee!! That poor kid. His Mom must have been a real spontaneous person," Pyro exclaimed.

"Indeed. Well, it's been fun guys, but I think we all have a mission to suit up for," Iceman, always the voice of reason and order, reminded.

"Sure sure Bobby. Spoilsport," John mumbled under his breath playfully as he left for his room.

Vision walked into his room with a smile on his face. Bobby, John, and himself were bonding. The three were kindred spirits in a strange kind of way. Their bond would only grow stronger as time progressed. Vision was glad to have found friendship on this team. Entering new and unfamiliar territory was a hard thing for Vision to do.

"Well, get ready for more unfamiliar territory Vision. We've just gotten word that nukes have gone off in the ten biggest cities of every country and Sinister is claiming responsibility for it! I want you and the rest of what is left of Patrol Force to meet me in my office. We've got some major planning to do," Cable said his voice full of forcefulness and anxiety.

It took Vision a couple of minutes to grasp the enormity of what Cable had just said. The world was headed for major trouble.

Vision, Iceman, Pyro, Abyss, Bobcat, Wasp, and Moonstar sat around the large brown table. They were Patrol Force and they were going to be put to the test in a few hours. At the head of the table was the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D., Cable.

"So I'm guessing that the Cuba mission has been scrapped," Wasp said propping her feet up on the table.

"Obviously Janet. S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially on Red Alert. The world is headed for grave danger. I've already contacted most of the other superhero groups out there. They'll be assembling at one of the old S.H.I.E.L.D. research labs. I want you guys to head there and keep me informed," Cable said arising from his chair.

"I really don't see why we just can't go after Sinister solo?" Bobcat complained.

Cable gave his team a stern look as he replied, "Sinister has hidden forces scattered across the planet. Even if we eliminated Sinister the guy probably has a dozen clones to back him up anyway. We've got to pull together on this one and do it right!"

"What are we waiting for then? Everyone suit up and meet in the hangar bay!" Wasp ordered.

Wasp walked into the large auditorium to see it full of old comrades and rivals from days gone by. In the far left corner of the large room were the Avengers. Thor, Falcon, Starfox, Captain Marvel, Silverclaw, and Beast all stood around with distressed and angered scowls on their faces. In the far right corner of the large room was the X-Men Black Squad. Forge, Maggott, Bishop, Shard, Storm, Bedlam, and M all had somber looks on their faces like they had seen something like this coming. Janet remembered when Forge use to always tell her that war was coming if hate couldn't be subdued. How right he was indeed.

Pyro looked desperately for Shadowcat and the X-Men White Squad. He finally spotted them above where the Avengers were all seated down. They were the only superhero team doing so. Shadowcat, Alastaire, Payne, Toad, Karma, Shinobi, and Hazard all saw Pyro and began to wave at him furiously. Allerdyce smiled. It had been a while since he had seen his old team. Leaving them for Patrol Force was one of the hardest things he ever had to do.

Bobcat walked down the aisle towards where the Defenders were. He was looking forward to seeing Dr. Strange and the rest of the gang. It had almost been three years since he had last seen them.

In front of all the heroes were their leaders. Captain America of the Avengers and Shadow King of X-Men Black Squad were at the forefront. Holocaust of X-Men White Squad and Black Knight of the Defenders were to the sides of them. Wasp of Patrol Force was the last leader to get up in front of the "troops".

"Today ladies and gentlemen we've been faced with a threat of great proportions. In the past few hours millions have died from the horror of nuclear weapons and millions more will die from the aftereffects of it. Together we are here to try and put down the source of this great tragedy. His name is Sinister and we will hunt him," Captain America said a strength in his voice that none of them had ever seen before.

"You know they're going to come for you don't you?" Ultra Girl asked as she stepped up behind Sinister who was staring at a screen that showed the devastation he had created.

A wicked laugh erupted from Sinister's mouth as he replied, "Let them come my child. I have my Marauders and a proverbial army at my back. Indeed I want them to come with all the speed they can muster. For when they all fall I shall become the undisputed master of this world. Now tell me where are my Marauders at?"

Nervously Ultra Girl answered, "Polaris and Havok are on Deck 1. Stryfe, Cyclops, and Caliban are in the Holodeck. Legolas and Bullet are eating lunch I believe."

"Assemble them then. We have preparations to make! Guests will soon be coming our way," Sinister smiled.

Space

"It's been a long time since we've been home," Mercury said as he stared out of the spaceship's window at the blue ball that was Earth.

"We don't come back under good circumstances. As the Twelve we are needed back on Earth. We protect the universe and go where we are needed," Magneto said grabbing Mercury's shoulder.

Lensherr was the leader of the 12 and Mercury was his adopted son who also happened to be a member of the 12. The other ones were Tsar, Callisto, Fatale, Ruckus, Hairback, and Quicksand. Those eight comprised the members of the Twelve that were from this reality. The other four were from other worlds. Magni was a mutant who happened to be the son of Rogue and Magneto. Warlord was an alternate Roughouse who had been raised by Apocalypse. Lando Haller was a descendent of Legion from a world where an immortal D'Ken ruled the entire universe. The last of the 12 was Baramae, an alternate Toad, who was quite the powerful sorcerer. The Twelve had been assembled by Eon to be his protectors and warriors in what he called the Eternity War.

"Quite the homecoming," Quicksilver said as he speeded up right beside his father.

"Indeed," Magneto replied somberly.

"I'm not quite sure who holds the Celestial Puzzle piece in this universe," Supreme Evolutionary said to himself.

"Perhaps it is one of the 12," Deathbird said as she walked into the room. Supreme Evolutionary hadn't been expecting her presence. He thought she was off on a visit to the new Shi'ar Empire.

"Oh I know it's one of the 12. I just can't figure out which one it is."
