Roughly 2000 Years From Now...

"[Fight!]" a young Nathan Dayspring yells as he unleashes a barrage of ion cannon blasts. "[We of Clan Chosen will never accept Canaanite rule!!!]" *

(* Translated from the unnamed language of Cable's future, in the 40th Century -- Brad)

At least a hundred Chosen troops storm the battlefield blasting away at the enemy lines. Dayspring joins his comrades and fires away. He's taking his aggression out on a faceless enemy. It's exuberant. Nathan meets up with his friend, Tetherblood.

"[Nothing like a daily raid of the Canaanite barracks, eh?]" T-Blood says with a smirk. Dayspring and T-Blood continue running through a thick glob of mud. They have to struggle now. They're being slowed down. Nathan erects a telekinetic shield just in time before an enemy blast could have killed him.

Nathan smiles, "[I live for war.]"

Jenskot, Nathan's wife, catches up with the two men. She pants, "[We're losing too many soldiers. We're gonna lose!]"

"[Then we'll have to win before it'll be too late to lose, Aliya,]" Nathan shouts.

The Present, UN Headquarters, New York

"WHY?!" Cable yells as he takes a swipe at Deathglare, who seems to blink out of existence for a moment and reappear somewhere else to avoid the Askani weapon. "Why here?! Why kill all these people?! Why, you bastard!?!"

Deathglare laughs as he hovers high above the floor of the meeting hall. "Only you would be so bold as to risk worldwide security to come here and fight me! Only you would be willing to fight me, despite the risks. Only you know what I am capable of... once you are out of the way... I can take it all."

"That doesn't answer my question, Nagruha! Aéulgo first appeared when you were going to attack me!" * Cable yells. "What's the real reason for doing this to me?!"

(* See Cable #4 -- Brad)

"I'd rather give up this mortal shell than tell you that, you pathetic mortal!" Deathglare yells as he generates a luminous orb of energy, sending it in Cable's direction.

Cable leaps as far as he can as the orb hits the floor, causing a great explosion. The force of the blast pushes Cable straight through the podium in the middle of the large hall. The UN representatives look on in fear and hope when they look at Cable.

"He looks like one of the good guys, maybe he's an Avenger!"

"Mein Gott, ich hoffen, daß dieser Mann unser Retter ist!"

"Vado al disordine mie!"

The thoughts of the representatives flood Cable's mind. He can't let them down! Not now! Cable's left eye beams with energy as he telekinetically rockets upward, to meet Deathglare face to face! Deathglare can't help but smile.

"Welcome, Chosen One...to your DEATH!"

"I hate you god-types...it's surprising your inflated ego hasn't destroyed you yet," Cable says.

Deathglare growls and delivers a massive punch to Cable's jaw, sending him at violent speeds towards the floor. Cable instantly bodyslides and uses his momentum to kick Deathglare in the back. Only, even with that much momentum, Deathglare is barely phased by it. He feels no pain at all. He smiles and grabs Cable by the ankle and swings him like a doll, throwing him on the floor.

Cable grunts as he coughs up blood.

"Was THAT all?!" Deathglare laughs. "THAT was all you had to offer?! HA! Pathetic!"

Cable reaches for his left thigh and unsheathes a shiny weapon. "We'll see...."

"I'm tired of this!" Iron Man shouts, banging his fist into his palm. "I say we take down this Deathglare!"

"We can't go against the US government--" Captain America was about to say.

"We can, and we will!" Hawkeye shouts. "People are dying out there!"

"I hate to say it, Cap, but Iron Man and Hawkeye are right," Wonder Man says as he shifts into his ionic form.

"Just because someone stamps US Government on something doesn't make it right," Jarvis speaks up.

"Fudging up foreign policy or not, I say we do it," Wasp says.

Firestar smiles as her eyes light up with fire, "Let's roast that turkey!"

Captain America sighs. "Alright, Avengers! To the Quinjet!" As the heroes run or fly towards the hangar, Captain America turns and puts his hand on the shoulder of Captain Marvel, who's sitting in the corner. "Genis?"

Genis turns around, startled, "Oh, sorry. What is it?"

"We're going to fight Deathglare, are you coming?"

Genis raises his fist and watches his nega-bands light up with energy. He just recently foresaw a potential universe-shaking event, that Nagruha, more commonly known as Deathglare, might kill Cable and rule Earth. This could be the big one. This could be the one chance Genis can prove to his father that he bears the name Captain Marvel with integrity. "Of course I am..."

Aéulgo appears after a green mist brought him there. He hovers along with Uatu, Earth's Watcher, above the UN Headquarters. "This is an intense battle, yes?" Aéulgo asks.

"You are a very interesting individual, Aéulgo," Uatu responds. "As is Nagruha. I never knew that a being such as you would bear the tiniest interest for this universe... or this planet."

Aéulgo smiles. "Earthers are very interesting beings. They have much potential. One day, they will prosper. Their empire will span galaxies."

"And where, may I ask, does Nathan Summers fit into all of this?" Uatu asks.

"Nathan? Why he is the Chosen One," Aéulgo explains. "Prophecies that survived to the future he grew up in were interpreted accurately. Nathan Dayspring was destined to be the link between humanity's prosperity... or its demise."

"Ah yes, the so called Destiny Force that all humans can potentially wield," Uatu confirms. "Are you saying Nagruha wants Earthers to fail in their conquest of the universe?"

Aéulgo nods. "Under Earth's rule, the universe will be at peace. I've peered into many timelines, and in most of them, the Earth universal empire is a peaceful one. Nagruha couldn't bear the thought of mortals being that powerful. He feared humans would one day try and take over the Fifth Dimension."

"Do they?" Uatu asks curiously.

"Not from what I've seen," Aéulgo says. "I tried to reason with Nagruha, but he wouldn't listen. He descended into the mortal realm, to the planet Earth, and in doing so, became a mortal himself. Like I am now, he started with almost none of his normal powers. He decided to pose as a mob boss and used his power to cause bad deeds and increase his strength. He witnessed the Calling and what it did to the being known as En Sabah Nur. He knew Jean Grey could be a threat, but Cable was bigger..."

"Why?" Uatu asks. "Jean Grey is quite powerful and more skilled than Nathan Summers..."

Aéulgo stares at the Watcher and almost laughs, "Cable can draw from the Fifth Force."

"He doesn't know, does he?" Uatu predicts. "He thinks the Askani didn't cure him of the transmode virus because his own powers halted it, and they ignored it."

"Exactly," Aéulgo confirms. "They did it as a last-measure attempt to keep him powered down. Stryfe couldn't draw from the Fifth Force, he was cloned; his genes were impure."

"Can Rachel Summers or Nate Grey--?"

"No," Aéulgo shakes his head. "Call it fate, but only Cable has the mutant genes capable of becoming a god." He sighs, "Nagruha picked the right time to attack. The Avengers are recuperating after saving the solar system, and a faction of the X-Men are preoccupied in the Antarctic...* He knew that Cable would be drawn to a massive death toll... and when he drew him out and killed him, he'd have the power to control the world indefinitely--and keep the human race in check."

(* See the most recent issues of Avengers and X-Men Omega -- M2K savvy Brad)

Uatu looks emotionless as he looks towards the UN Building below him, "Then this is something I was meant to watch since I was assigned to this orb..."

Cable points the energy-reverberator at Deathglare and pulls the trigger. The blast hits Deathglare and bypasses his energy shield. Deathglare actually screams. "What... have... you done...??!!!"

Cable smiles. "I'm depleting your power supply." He blasts Deathglare again and he screams out in pain again. Cable uses this extended period of time to telekinetically loosen the bonds that have the UN reps tied up. "GO!" he shouts.

The people don't waste any time and run out of the building.

Deathglare growls and causes the futuristic weapon to explode. There goes the main plan. Now that he's powered down some... I'll take him out with my own two hands! Cable thinks to himself. Cable unhitches all the straps holding up the myriad of weapons he's carrying and settles for just his psimatar. Deathglare's eyes light up with the color of blood as he stares at Cable.

Cable's hand rushes to his temple as Deathglare's namesake takes effect.

"That's not playing fair! Your gnome building you weapons?! Fight me man to god!"

"ARGH!" Cable screams. He blasts Deathglare right in the forehead. The effects on Cable's brain are halted. Cable takes a running jump and kicks Deathglare in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him.

Deathglare retaliates and delivers a gravity-defying kick to Cable's temple and abdomen. Cable hits the floor hard as he struggles to catch his breath. Deathglare then tears out of his black business suit facade and reveals his true godly attire: a torn toga for a top, a loin cloth, and solid gold ankle and wrist bands. Deathglare generates another orb and fires it at Cable, knocking him into a wall and through some chairs.

Cable slashes Deathglare in the chest as he flies at alarming speeds towards him, but ends up breaking the Askani weapon. "Damn!" Cable shouts as he smashes the weapon on the floor.

Deathglare smiles while shaking a single finger, "Not so fast, trigger-happy!" Deathglare destroys the rest of the weapons Cable left on the floor.

Cable lunges for Deathglare and punches him across the face with his metallic arm. Deathglare get a livid look on his face and shouts, "You DARE strike me?!?!" Deathglare grabs Cable and violently tears off his left forearm! He carelessly tosses the techno-organic appendage to the side.

Cable cannot shout. The pain is too great. Cable looks at the damage done. There are a few techno-organic wires that are loose and a strange metallic liquid gushing from the tear-off point. Cable vomits in disgust. His techno-virus may be brutal, but it was still a part of him.

Cable thinks back to his training sessions with Warlock. He should be able "heal" himself by forcing the virus to reconstruct itself. Cable telekinetically speeds up the virus' reproduction. Cable grunts and screams, generating a powerful psionic pulse that is felt by everyone in the city of New York...

As the Avengers' Quinjet flies closer and closer to the UN Headquarters, Captain Marvel senses something strange on the horizon. Genis looks in his reflection in the jet's window and sees Rick Jones. Rick gives him an "uh-oh" look. Genis shouts, "Land the jet, quick!"

Captain America looks back as he controls the jet, "Why?"

Before anyone could react, the psionic pulse reached the Quinjet... and everyone inside, rendering them unconscious. Genis manages to smash his nega-bands together and switch places with Rick Jones before he dozes off. Rick hurriedly pushes Cap America out of the pilot's seat and pulls up on the control stick.

"Push the auto-pilot button, Rick!" Genis yells.

"Oh Lordy!" Rick, panicking, frantically pushes a whole bunch of buttons at once. Energy blasts are fired, seats are ejected, the landing gear comes out and back in. After a minute or two, the auto pilot finally activates.

"And you used to be a sidekick?!"

"Can it, Blueboy!" Rick shouts as he runs to check on his fellow teammates.

Somewhere else...

"[I need some assistance, Professor!]" Dayspring shouts.

{[What do you wish?]} the sentient computer asks.

"[Aliya's been wounded, I need a hospital to get her to NOW!]" Dayspring shouts.

{[My scanners show that there is a medic team on their way. ETA five minutes.]}

"[She might not have that long!]" Nathan shouts.

Tetherblood suddenly dives for cover inside the trench. "[Incoming!!!!]" he shouts. Nathan instinctively covers his wife's body with his own, willing to endanger himself. The projectile bombs hit the ground hard, shaking the entire trench. Many Chosen soldiers are thrown backwards as charred shells of their former selves.

"[Nathan! We need to turn back! The Canaanite forces are too--]"

"[Blow it out your ass, T-Blood! We are NOT backing down! We've never backed down!]" Dayspring yells.

{[Nathan, I highly suggest that you surrender and get Aliya the medical attention she deserves,]} Professor says with urgency.

Dayspring grits his teeth and brandishes his massive cannon, "[Cover me!]"

"[What?! Okay, just because you're our leader doesn't mean--]"

"[THAT'S AN ORDER, DAMN IT!!]" Dayspring says as he points a gun at T-Blood's head. T-Blood relents and nods his head, backing away. Dayspring erects a telekinetic shield and climbs to the top of the trench, to ground level. He sees an entire blockade of soldiers, androids, tanks, fighter aircrafts.

Shouting as loud as he possibly can, Nathan pulls the trigger and starts running...

Elsewhere.

Soon, Cable's forearm is reformed! Cable then shifts his left hand into talons and violently slashes at Deathglare's left eye.

Deathglare revels in pain. Cable then slashes out the other eye and kicks Deathglare where even gods can get hurt. Deathglare kneels on the floor and begins to laugh. "Does the word god not mean a thing to you, mortal trash?! I can see everything! Even without eyes to see them with! This is only a mortal shell!"

"Well la dee da, Humpty!" Cable shouts as he stabs Deathglare with a techno-organic blade. Deathglare simply laughs and blasts Cable in the face, burning a hole through his mask.

Deathglare smiles and taunts as he grabs Cable by the throat, "If killing you is this easy, think of what I can do to the human race!!!!"

Cable gets an inquiring look on his face, even despite his lack of air. Why would humans be of any concern to this whacko?

Deathglare generates energy from his hand and phases it right into Cable's chest. Cable grits his teeth. Deathglare laughs as he squeezes the heart of a hero... a soon to be fallen hero. "You should be proud, Cable, you're the only one who's lasted this long. Give up, and die a hero's death!"

"I'd... rather... die... fighting... to the... end..." Cable struggles to say as blood is forced through his mouth. His left arm is shivering from the lack of control over it. Suddenly the shivering stops. Cable's left arm becomes whole as a bright light envelops his body.

"No...," Deathglare says in horror. "Not now! It's too early!!!! He's not supposed to--"

Cable's body radiates white light as he removes Deathglare's hands from his throat. The techno-organic virus is temporarily expelled, giving Cable a surge of energy he's never felt before... only the one time Aéulgo brought him to the Fifth Dimension. *

(* Check Cable #7 -- Brad)

One thing is clear, the near death experience Cable had as he could feel every pump his heart took, it activated his latent ability to draw from the Fifth Force -- but the pain Cable was experiencing was another story. Cable knows he'd have to make this quick or else the same energy boosting him will likely kill him. Cable knows he might die in this battle, but only if there is no other choice...

"Give my regards to Apocalypse, asshole!" Cable yells as he generates a telekinetic blast even the Phoenix could not replicate towards the weakening shell of Deathglare. When the blast hits, the entire area seems to glow. Cable has to shield his eyes...

Later...

"Cable?!" Captain America shouts as he is lowered via Justice's telekinesis to the floor of the UN Hall. "Where's Deathglare!? Where are the representatives?!"

Cable groggily wakes up in a pool of his own blood. He grabs his left arm. It had returned to its techno-organic form. Iron Man's jet boots descend to Cable's level. "You alright?"

Iron Man helps him to his feet. Captain America is there in a flash to help him as well. "Cable?" Cap asks again.

"I... I don't know... I think Deathglare is gone... for good..." Cable says, trying to ignore his wounds. "I freed the representatives... they're safe..." The rest of the Avengers descend to floor level. They all rush up to the man responsible for defeating Deathglare.

"We need to get him to a doctor!" Wasp yells.

"No," Cable pants. "No... just... just leave me be... Computer, bodyslide by one..."

*ZZZPPP*

Captain America can't help but sigh heavily and smile. "Looks like we weren't needed for once."

Suddenly, Nikilai Mikgraf, the slain Russian ambassador, appears amidst the rubble -- alive! "Where...?"

"Oh my!" Wonder Man exclaims. "He's pulled a resurrection! Join the club, comrade!"

"Simon!" Scarlet Witch yells sternly.

"How?!" Cap asks. "Scarlet Witch, do you know how... this happened?"

She shakes her head, "I do not know, Captain... all I know is that the forces of good won... perhaps this is just a little reward?"

"Hey," Hawkeye shouts as he looks out the window, "There's a bunch of people lying on the street! They're not hurt... I think they're all those people that died within that five mile radius!"

"A big reward," Captain America says proudly.

Agent 18 stumbles onto the scene, no worse for wear, scratching his head. He looks around.

"Who're you?" Captain America asks.

"No one," Eighteen says as he conceals his weapons with an image-inducer. "Just a security guard."

"Carry on, then," Cap says.

"I will," Agent 18 says with a smile. He soon disappears out the door in a hasty exit.

"[Nathan?!]" Tetherblood asks, somewhat dazed. Nathan comes limping back to the Chosen's trench. "[You just took on that entire army by yourself... and won? All you had was your gun?]"

Nathan smiles, "[And Professor to back me up... not to mention my telekinesis. You'd be surprised how useful your mind can be when you can move things with it.]"

The medic team arrives aboard a hovercraft. Nathan's face turns to a look of concern as he runs up to and consoles his wounded wife. "[Don't worry, babe... you'll be alright... I fought for you... and I won!]"

Aliya smiles faintly. "[M-maybe Sanctity was right about you being the Chosen One...]"

Nathan bursts out laughing. "[She was a loon... didn't know what she was talking about...]"

Indeed she "didn't"...
