A former soldier with faulty memories and stolen identities, Wade Wilson was granted a healing factor by the Weapon X program in order to stop a terminal form of cancer. Unfortunately, the procedure left him horribly scarred and insane. Deadpool, nicknamed "The Merc-With-A-Mouth," then began his career as a mercenary, running afoul of villain and hero alike on his various missions.
