Of all of Saturn's 18 moons, only one is able to support life.

Titan.

Home of a tangent of the human species created by the godlike Celestials about one-million years ago. The Eternals. Beings of almost unlimited psionic and physical potential and able to manipulate atoms of their own body and other objects by their own will.

Thanos is one such of these Eternals, except much more powerful. One would think the Eternals would be able to stand up to their bane, but they cannot. They will not. Why?

Fear.

The Eternals are powerful, but their numbers are small. They cannot risk becoming extinct. Their society has existed for thousands of years.

The Nega-bands are a Kree invention, enhancing the wearer's own physical strength, speed, and durability to peek levels. Thanos is now in possession of the gold bracelets. He could be considered the most powerful being in the universe at the moment.

Thanos teleports himself into the rejuvenation ward of a Titanian hospital. There lays a bald woman. Naked except for the various wires connected to the woman's skull. She was Heather Douglas, better known as Moondragon. She was taught by the Titanians to access her mental capabilities all humans potentially possess. Through this electrical treatment on her brain, she can gain full control over the atoms of her body and literally pull herself back together. She suffered a major blow when she fought the Mig-Na'cha Queen.

"Heather...," Thanos' voice trembles. "Join your father and I. We'll turn the Eternals into the army they were meant to be. No one will stand in our way. I need your psionic expertise to complete the task. With everyone outfitted with Kree Nega-bands, we would be unstoppable!"

Moondragon silently opens a single eye and appears to be humored, "Thanos? Drax is dead."

"How can you honestly say that with a straight face?" Thanos asks as he crosses his arms. Heather notices the Nega-bands around his wrists.

"What did you do to him?" Moondragon shouts.

"Who? Bastard-Vell?" Thanos smiles. "I killed him, of course."

Moondragon's head seems to turn into a blue lamp as her psionic powers explode from her skull, knocking Thanos back. "Don't lie to me," Heather says as she rips the wires off of her head. Using her immense power, she assembles her white costume over her body using ambient atoms. "I can tell when you lie!"

"Don't make me laugh, girl. I should have killed you all those years ago when I had the chance!" Thanos growls as he blasts Moondragon in the abdomen, spewing blood and viscera all over the floor.

Thanos' eyes flash as he glares his teeth, "You had your chance, human-trash."

"NO!" the raven-haired Elysius shouts from the Microverse. "You killed her!"

"Shut your mouth, wench!" Thanos shouts. He covers his ears, "Gah...get out of my head! You sound like a blasted conscience."

"Maybe that's a good thing, you son of a bitch!" Elysius shouts.

I am Genis-Vell. I am Captain Marvel.

...And I am fucking pissed off.

Thanos is back and molecularly bonded with my thought-dead mother, Elysius. I killed her without even knowing it. She contracted this Virshgon Disease from me...killed her pretty quick from what I heard. Now I'm using that same virus to kill off an entire race.

Or, rather, Drax the Destroyer is. Seems this latest rebirth has granted him his Arthur Douglas persona that has been long dormant. He's infected his engineered body with the virus. He's already showing signs of dying. He's paler. Veiny. Farting up a storm.

Hey, it's a small ship. It's getting stuffy. I'm so used to flying through hyperspace without riding in a ship. I better get my Nega-bands back pronto. Not that I need them as a crutch...

I'm not a power-happy freak like the rest of the holier-than-thou Eternals.

God damn it...fucking Supreme Intelligence tells me he's unimpressed...

I'll kill off the Eternals just to make him see how much the Kree bloodline runs through me like an ionic storm.

My name is Captain Marvel, after all. Captain of what? I inherited the title from my father, who was a high-ranking Kree officer. Does that mean I'm part of the Kree military? No, that's impossible. Unless the Supremor actually takes the "pretend rank" thing seriously?

Ahem, if I may speak? This is Rick Jones. I am molecularly bonded to Genis-Vell...and I finally get what that actually means. We're in the same body. All the time. It's the Nega-bands that really keeps us separate...and sane.

Genis has managed to gain full control of our body...by cheating a little bit with his cosmic awareness, but he's going up against Thanos...so I think I'll let that one slide.

But this killing of the Eternals...I can't agree with that decision...I never will. There's one way Thanos can be stopped. Put him in that stone form. This thing with him being freed from it by gaining Elysius' body and the spirit of my dead child is a bunch of bullshit. It's a goddamn fluke. Genis is going to go all Rambo on those people.

I hate to say it...but he's becoming more and more like...well, a Kree. Maybe that's good for him...but for everyone else, it's a bad, bad thing.

Mar-Vell would never approve of this. The Eternals were the race that raised Genis...and he's pushing them to the back of his mind so he can allow this to happen...

God, I just want to be with Marlo...please...make this stop...

can't take it...

thoughts...jumbled...

go to sleep....

sleeeeeeeep.....

The space craft rockets towards the bulging gas giant that is Saturn. The ring system of dust and ice surrounding the planet's equatorial region is clearly seen. The ship's navigational system picks up on a surface, the surface of Titan.

"Ungh...," Drax mutters, trying to stay conscious. "The virus is getting stronger. Send out the warning..."

"Warning to the Titanian leaders commens---AHHHHHH!!!" Genis suddenly shouts as he grips his temples. "Oh no...she's dead."

"Who...?" Drax asks.

"Heather," Genis responds as blood drips from his nose. His face was lighting up as the space field swirls around. "I'm...sorry, Arthur."

Drax remains emotionless, "It's all right, Marvel...she won't be a casualty of what I am about to do."

Drax presses a button as his seat is ejected into the vacuum of space. He flies towards Titan under his own power. Genis growls as he takes control of the ship.

"Damn it," he swears. "My uncle...Starfox...damn it...he's going to die....my mother's going to die..."

Genis stands up, putting the ship on autopilot. He straps an oxygen-nitrogen apparatus to his head and generates a massive photonic blast, destroying the ship. Space was cold.

Captain Marvel was cold. He never realized it until now. The Nega-bands kept him warm while flying through space. It's all so quiet. Peaceful. Eerie. Yet...evil.

Through his atunment to the universe, Genis can see a large purple cloaked being pointing towards Titan. It was Death.

THEY HAVE SPENT TOO LONG IN THIS WORLD...THEIR TIME IS UP, GENIS-VELL. THEY ARE CHEATING THE LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE.

He isn't sure if it was really Death herself speaking to him, or his own subconscious. Either way, a brilliant point has been raised.

The Eternals, by their very name, are everlasting. By definition of the universe, that simply cannot be.

Birth. Life. Death.

That is the way of things.

Captain Marvel is the universal protector...the Eternals have to die for the rest of us to live.

As hundreds of Eternals begin flying their ships out of Titan's golden haze atmosphere, Genis focuses his powers and begins blasting their ships down. The Eternals manage to generate a field of energy around them composed of tiny ice particles transmuted into a suitable atmosphere.

"What am I doing?" Genis asks himself. "Pama...what am I doing?"

"THANOS!!" Drax shouts as he crashes through his lair.

Thanos sits on his throne. He smiles, "The other Eternals will not interfere with my plans...how...interestingly...good. Soon, they will be under my control for fear of being destroyed."

Drax's knees buckle as he slumps to the floor. His breathing is labored. He's experienced death more times than one should. It is never easy.

Thanos glares at his one-time enemy and servant, "You have Virshgon in your veins. You betrayed me...I was planning on using the virus as a way to get the Eternals to work for me...but now you've ruined everything!"

Thanos holds out his hand and encases Drax in a photonic energy sphere. Drax places his hand on the inside of the sphere, "You....you have the virus with you?"

"You sent the warning...," Thanos deduces. He laughs, "You were going to kill the Eternals before I could control them." He coughs slightly. He swallows. He was already infected, as was Elysius. "It doesn't matter...Genis is already killing them by destroying their ships...didn't know the boy had it in him..."

"PLEASE!!" Starfox yells. "Genny, my nephew! Don't do this...! For your mother's sake!"

"I'm sorry, uncle...," Captain Marvel mutters coldly. "I hope you'll understand."

*THOOM*

Starfox was gone in a flash of light.

Drax yells as he busts through the photonic prison. He hurls a bolt of red energy at Thanos, who simply absorbs the energy. He sighs, "Please, Drax...don't make me do this...this would be too easy to kill you. It would be cheap."

Drax shouts as he charges Thanos, but is stopped short of his destination as he is vaporized in the wink of an eye.

"...but it would give me a satisfying feeling nonetheless," Thanos smiles. He coughs as he grips his throat. "Damnation..."

Genis descends gracefully through the hole Drax created in the ceiling of Thanos' temple. His entire body was glowing with the fires of the cosmos. He tares the breathing apparatus off of his head, glaring at Thanos.

Thanos smiles, "You killed them. One-thousand Eternals, gone in a flash."

"I gave them to Death," Genis mutters. "She took them and she's going to keep them. She's sick of their long lifespans. She's sick of you prolonging your life."

"I don't understand...how could you do all of this?" Thanos asks.

His question is answered when Genis reveals a pair Nega-bands on his wrists. "We stopped by an old Kree military outpost on Uranus before we got here. Look what I found."

"But...how could you kill an Eternal...even with the Nega-bands...?" Thanos asks.

"Well, I could let the virus do the work for me, but I've got a better idea," Captain Marvel explains as he stretches his arms outward, creating a stasis field around the entire surface area of Titan. In the blink of an eye, the moon known as Titan disappears from existence and is thrust into the Negative Zone.

Genis hovers backwards for a moment as he concentrates to close the portal.

But he can't. It was too big. He had created a permanent gateway into the Negative Zone. It was in the void left by where Titan once existed.

"Damn it, what the hell did you do!?!" Rick shouts with their re-established dichotomy.

"Only one way to close it...," Genis mutters.

"Oh shit, don't...man, don't!"

Captain Marvel flies at top speeds into the spatial tare, closing it as he passes through.

In the Negative Zone, both Genis and Rick sit on an asteroid, the null field of their Nega-bands surrounding them and protecting them from harm of the devastating effects the environment could have on them.

In the distance, they can still see the rocky terrain of Titan being eaten away by the antimatter of the Negative Zone.

"What were you thinking?" Rick shouts.

"Had to, Rick," Genis explains. "Just had to. That portal could have grown larger and swallowed the entire solar system, Earth included."

"No, I'm asking why the fuck you created the stasis field in the first place?" Rick asks. "Wasn't the virus efficient enough?"

"The virus wouldn't have worked, I saw it...it didn't work...I needed to do something more permanent."

"You destroyed Titan!" Rick shouts, pointing to the large chunk of Saturn's moon that was left. "And we're stuck here!"

Genis stands up, "Probably. We'll find a way out, don't worry."

*THOOM!*

"Yaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!! OOF!" Rick grunts as he falls face first into his bed. Marlo busts the door open with a baseball bat in her grasp.

"Rick?" she asks.

"Marlo...," Rick breathes. He rushes and embraces his wife. "Oh God...Marlo...it's so terrible...Genis has gone insane..." Rick pauses.

"What? He did?" Marlo asks.

"I...I can't feel him," Rick says. He looks at his wrists. The Nega-bands were gone. "He sent me home...he stayed behind."

"Rick, I'm gladder than glad that you're home, but what the hell are you talking about?"

"I'll explain later, honey," Rick says. "I think my life just got...normal, for once."

And that's when I woke up. I was still sleeping on a Negative Zone asteroid, overlooking the smoldering core of Titan. I could still hear the screams echoing, which was kind of weird, but then again, everything in the N-Zone is weird.

Marv was right. Someone did find a way out, just not for me. Someone freed him...and it was most unexpected. From the way Genis talked, it sounded like he was going to keep me in here...the Negative Zone, until I quit bitching about his slaughter of the Eternals.

God, I'll never see Marlo again...

"Quit your worrying, Jones," Thanos growls as he and Elysius hover over to the same asteroid Rick was sitting on. They both still had their nega-bands on.

"We'll keep you company...until then," Elysius smiles.

"Goody," I respond.

"Good company, indeed," Starfox smiles as he whooses by on a comet, with three other Eternal whores clung to him.

The thousand Eternals begin to fly around in their new environment. They shouldn't be able to survive in the Negative Zone, but Genis gave them all null-fields before he teleported them there.

They begin to pull their world back together. They form what is called the Uni-mind and collectively use their powers in conjunction to reform their moon civilization.

It took me awhile to realize what Genis was actually doing and it kind of makes sense now. He's duped the universe in thinking he offed the Eternals. All of his enemies from now on will treat him with the respect he deserves...but he's making this universal protector thing a full-time gig.

He's a true military man. Forming alliances and crushing his enemies as we speak...

"Well...?" Captain Marvel asks with his arms crossed. A green glow emanated in front of him.

The green glow was the Supreme Intelligence. "I FREED YOU FROM THE NEGATIVE ZONE...AND YET..." Supremor appears to smile, "WHAT YOU DID WAS..."

"Impressive?" Genis smirks.

"...WORTHY OF MY APPROVAL. YOU ELIMINATED A POTENTIAL THREAT TO THE KREE BY DESTROYING THANOS AND MOST OF THE ETERNALS."

"So we have a deal?" Marv asks.

"YES...THE RU'UL WILL PROTECT EARTH FROM EXTRA-GALACTIC THREATS. IF A THREAT EVEN THINKS ABOUT CROSSING INTO THE MILKY WAY, THEY WILL BE ELIMINATED."

"Good. Because there is a lot of bull going on out there, beyond the Milky Way. I won't have time to cater to the Earthers...," Genis explains. "Oh, and the second you think about conquering Earth...I'll zap you into the Negative Zone. Leave the Skrulls and Shi'ar alone too, huh? Now that you've got your evolution jump-started again, try not to declare war on the whole fucking universe, 'kay? Try working on preserving the Kree socio-economic structure for a change, too."

The Supremor silently floats in its tank, "ARE YOU FIN--"

"Oh, and...if you get in my way in any way, shape, or form, I will personally piss in that tank of yours. Are we clear on our pact...?"

"YES...," Supremor says regretfully.

Captain Marvel smiles as his body lights up as he flies out of the complex and into the sky, out of Kree-Lar's atmosphere, out of its orbit...

I am Genis-Vell. I am Captain Marvel.

This is my story.

It's not ending.

It's only beginning.

Author's notes: Well, that ends my run on Captain Marvel. It sure started out fun and comedic, didn't it? It ended on a kind of dark note, but I wanted to leave an easy opening for the next writer. They can choose to continue this way or not...it doesn't really matter to me. I'm not forcing anyone to stick to something just because I did it. Nothing is set in stone here. But, uh...thanks for reading.
