“Avengers, Assemble!”
Before Eye-Scream could properly respond to American Dream’s almost
historical shout, a swift kick to his chin sent him straight up into the
air by surprise and landing with a thud on the ground, hitting his head on
the cement pavement.
“Walter!” shouted Spectra, as she ran to him. Kneeling down, she lifted
his head, “Walter, are you ok?”
“I’m fine,” Eye-Scream said, getting up and grabbing his head, “I think
this is…the second time I’ve hit this pavement today?”
The
figures of Stinger, J2 and Sabreclaw appeared from the entrance of the
Avengers
Mansion
and stood behind both American Dream and Bluestreak.
“I
think they’ve learned their lesson, Dream. Let’s just let ‘em be.”
Bluestreak placed her hand on American Dream’s shoulder and gave a passing
glance to both Eye-Scream and Spectra.
“No,” American Dream said, raising her shield and eyeing the two, “We have
a duty as Avengers to take care of criminals. They deliberately tried to
gain entrance to the mansion to take the feather we obtained from
Oblivion.”
Eye-Scream’s ears perked up, “You got the feather…FROM Oblivion?” Walter
could have sworn the rather vague Oblivion told him to search for these
feathers…not have an Easter egg hunt.
“Dream, calm down! Jeez, you’ve been on this goddamn power trip ever since
Nick Fury gave you that recreation of a super soldier thing or whatever*.
Calm the heck down, girl.” Bluestreak countered, at the surprise of Dream
herself.
*-(Alternate Unlimited #24 – Chris)
“Ohhh, Drama!” Eye-Scream said, “Thanks Blue!” With the added opening,
Eye-Scream shot a well placed blast of vanilla ice cream straight into
American Dream’s eyes. Grabbing Spectra’s he made a quick sprint passed
her as he came into contact with Sabreclaw.
“Ahh! Avengers, get them!” American Dream said, slightly embarrassed by
the sudden upper hand. She quickly wiped away the ice cream off her face.
J2 and Stinger quickly joined Sabreclaw and blocked Walter and Becca’s
sudden advantage.
“Walter, we’re trapped!” Becca squeaked, clutching Walter’s shoulder.
“We can’t fight them!”
“You should have thought of that before you tried breaking in!” deduced
J2, as he quickly aimed a punch right for Eye-Scream. Walter quickly
jumped to the side and narrowly missed the punch, as both he and Becca
fell to the floor.
“Bluestreak, get in here!” Stinger shouted, looking at her idle
teammate. Bluestreak stood, unmotivated by the battle. These were her
teammates…but why didn’t she care anymore? American Dream had changed
and the Avengers weren’t what she remembered. This wasn’t what she
signed up for.
Stinger quickly shrunk to her insect form and began flying towards
Spectra. Before she could shoot a blast of energy at her, Becca quickly
swatted her with a strong slap, sending her flying into the gate.
“Stinger!” J2 yelled, running towards Becca. He lifted his arms into the
air and prepared to slam them into Becca’s small form. Walter and
Becca’s eyes widened in shock as Eye-Scream quickly leaped atop Becca.
“Walter! No, what are you doing?!”
“I hope this works!” Eye-Screamed grabbed Becca’s arm and closed his
eyes and suddenly both of them turned into an ice cream puddle. It
bolted in another direction just as J2’s slam hit the ground, cracking
the very earth in its wake. Walter and Becca suddenly reformed from the
ice cream puddle.
“You…turned me into ice cream…!?” Becca shouted, as she got to her feet.
“That was the most disgusting feeling I’ve ever had in my life.”
“What a half-ass thank you, Skittles,” Eye-Scream retorted as he too,
got to his feet. Sabreclaw quickly leaped into the air and jumped
Eye-Scream, slashing at his costume. The claws quickly destroyed the
fabric and began to pierce his skin. “Damnit!”
“Stop that!” Becca shouted. Her skin began to shift into multiple colors
and her pupils curled into the back of her head. A yellow aura appeared
around her hands as the clothes around Sabreclaw seemed to animate him
into the air, as if someone had picked him up and was dangling him by
the collar. She then waved her arm forward, sending Sabreclaw’s body
flying into American Dream’s, knocking them both to the ground.
J2 suddenly rushed towards Becca, knocking her away with a quick nudge,
sending her into a tree. She landed with a quick thud, falling to the
ground unconscious. Walter’s eyes couldn’t help but stay transfixed on
his friend.
“BECCA!” Walter yelled, running toward her. J2 instinctively followed
him, trying to scoop him up with his hands to throw him, but Walter
turned his feet into ice cream just as J2’s hands connected, letting him
pass through the goop like water. “Becca, answer me…! No, you asshole
what the hell did you do?!”
Walter knelt down to Becca and slowly placed his hand at the back of her
head, “Becca, c’mon. Don’t do this, don’t do this.”
J2 quickly saw the opening he needed to charge a final strong punch.
Home World…
Eddie Canon swiftly landed in the middle of a dense forest. He had been
flying for as long as he’d remembered. Days seemingly had passed, but he
knew it couldn’t have been that long. Walking to a nearby river, Eddie
knelt down to drink some water, breathing in the fresh air of the
human-less forest.
“I should just stay here,” he said to himself, looking at the trees blow
gently in the wind, “But that wouldn’t end it, would it…?”
Eddie awaited an answer and suddenly his eyes sparked, “Eddie.
Eddie, Eddie, Eddie. Your angst annoys the shit out of me.”
Eddie shook his head, regaining control, “I’m…I’m sick of this! I don’t
want you in me anymore! I don’t want to kill anymore!”
Suddenly, electrical energy crackled around Eddie’s body. He fell to the
ground, his eyes glowing.
“Then maybe you shouldn’t be around anymore.
Eddie was always too weak…I think it’s time the Host took over full time.”
Eddie’s body erupted in energy as he bolted into the sky, leaving a
crater of earth where he once stood.
“Stop it!”
Bluestreak ran in front of J2’s swinging fist as he quickly saw his
friend and avoided the punch, toppling over and tripping over his foot.
He fell to the ground with a large thud, shaking the ground in turn.
“Bluestreak, what are you doing?” American Dream asked.
Bluestreak shook her head, “I think we’ve hurt them enough. No need to
finish them like they’re Ultron or something.”
“They attempted to break into our mansion,” American Dream stated, “Are
you disobeying an order from me?”
“Yeah, I am. I don’t think these guys mean any harm,” Bluestreak said,
still blocking Eye-Scream and Spectra. Bluestreak grabs both Eye-Scream
and Spectra and tosses them over her shoulders as she rushes in Super
Speed into the mansion. Darting passed stairways and hallways, the trio
suddenly find themselves in a large metallic room.
“Whaa…what was…what?” Eye-Scream says, as Bluestreak tosses him to the
ground as he tries to make sense of what just occurred.
“Well? You want that stupid feather right? There it is,” Bluestreak
says, placing Spectra gently onto the ground. Eye-Scream takes a quick
look in front of him and says a red feather inside what appears to be a
computer console. “I’ll bide you some time to grab the feather and go.”
Eye-Scream looks up at Bluestreak, “Why are you doing this?"
Bluestreak manages a quick smile, “I guess I’m a sucker for cute guys
with shitty powers.” Spectra suddenly begins to flutter her eyes as
Walter kneels down to her.
“Skittles!” Walter shouts, grabbing Becca’s face and giving her a huge
smooch on her cheek. “Don’t you ever get thrown into a tree again.”
“…ugggh…” Becca says, somewhat dazed, “But Walter…it’s so tempting…” She
sarcastically remarks as he grabs her in for a quick hug. “What’s she
doing here…and where are we?”
“I hear them coming, guys! Grab the feather and go!” Bluestreak yells.
“But what about you?” Eye-Scream asks, “Won’t they send you to like…the
Vault or something? For helping a cruddy one-time villain take a
feather?” He jumps towards the computer console and grabs the feather.
Almost on cue, a portal appears nearby.
“Could always use some excitement,” she says, “It’s always been boring
around here, hah!”
Spectra rushes toward the portal, “Walter, let’s get out of here!” She
quickly runs in as it sucks her in almost immediately. Walter takes a
look back at Bluestreak and then the portal.
“Damn my sex deprived self!” Walter shouts. He runs towards Bluestreak
and tosses her over his shoulder, “Adventure time!”
“What are you doing?!”
Walter quickly runs into the portal with Bluestreak as it promptly
closes.
Oblivion’s Reality…
Eye-Scream, Spectra and Bluestreak suddenly landed with a thud. As they
regained their composure, their eyes darted around wherever it is they
had landed. Completed darkness surrounded all around them, except for
the fact that they could see each other perfectly fine.
“What is she doing here…?” Spectra asked, pointing to Bluestreak rather
confused.
“That’s a good question,” Bluestreak said, looking at Eye-Scream. “But
where is here?”
“I couldn’t let her get caught up in our problem with whatever her
reality would’ve dealt her. But kudos on your reality not being
post-apocalyptic, was totally expecting that,” Eye-Scream said, placing
his arm around her shoulder, “Besides, she called me cute, I don’t get
that too often. I gotta kidnap my ladies to get them to like me!”
“Is he always this cheerful, even in a room completely filled with
shadows?” Bluestreak asks Spectra, looking at her with her eyebrow
raised.
Spectra folds her arms, “I’m sure he’d crack a joke if we were at a
funeral.”
“Now, Skittles, please. You know I’d wait until after the funeral was
over.” Before Eye-Scream could continue, the feather in his hand
suddenly begins to hover in the air and towards a two glowing green
eyes.
“Excellent work, Eye-Scream. It seems you got help on your way.”
Oblivion hand remains open, the feather idly hovering above his palm,
“You did well.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. But what’s this about you PLACING the feather there
yourself. What the hell am I getting myself into, ‘Blivy?”
The feather suddenly disappears from Oblivion’s palm. “I know nothing of
this.”
“What are you talking about? American Dream said a guy named Oblivion
gave her the feather about a week back,” Bluestreak retorted.
“I will call upon you again for the next feather.”
“No, you won’t,” Eye-Scream says, stepping toward Oblivion, “I wanna
know what’s going on.”
“Are you breaking the deal, Walter Goodwill? The deal we made?”
“Walter…don’t be so hasty…he doesn’t seem like a guy to break deals
with.” Becca states, looking at Oblivion intently.
Walter shakes his head, “Yeah, I am.”
“Then face the consequences.” Oblivion suddenly snapped his figures as
Walter, Becca and Bluestreak disappeared.
