Annual Awards
"The Tookies"

Like Hollywood, we at M2K like to make ourselves feel loved and special (and we are), so we hold an awards ceremony of sorts to honor the amazing events and talents from the past year. There are 13 different categories, ranging from "Best Hero" to "Best Villain" and our special "Hall of Fame" recognition which (I'm told) gets you a guranteed front row seat in Fanfic Heaven...or is it Fanfic Hell? Either way, you can see the results from previous years right here!

2000
(THE FIRST ANNUAL TOOKIES)

The fans spoke---and we listened. Over the past two months, you wrote in your choices for various categories. And now, as promised, the results to the First Annual M2K Millennial Awards!!

Best Title

Wolverine

It was a tough choice, but with the combination of high-octane action, amazing characterization, and breath-taking shockers, Wolverine (written by David Wheatley) left the competition eating dust.

Best Writer

Dino Pollard

With such writing credits as X-Men Omega, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blade, and many more, Dino really gets around. His stories can range from humorous to action-packed to emotional. Maybe that's why he was voted as the best writer. Maybe it's because he practically writes everything at M2K. Or maybe it's because he was the head honcho during the voting.

Best Fight

Turtles vs Death

Apocalypse sent his Horseman, Death (Omega Red) to test the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was a fierce battle as Leo, Don, and Raph tried to take down the Horseman, but in the end, it was Death who came out on top. It was the intervention of Splinter, who quickly dispatched Death, that saved the lives of the Turtles (seen in Marvel Fanfare #3 by Russ Anderson).

Best Moment

Professor Xavier is Assassinated

Public preception of mutants was low. With Magneto in control of Genosha, and the emergence of a new Brotherhood, the revelation that Charles Xavier was a mutant couldn't have come at a worse time. When Xavier was giving a speech, he was assassinated by an unnamed sniper in the balcony, who then commited suicide after he said, "DEATH TO ALL MUTANTS!!" (seen in The Uncanny X-Men #4 by Dino Pollard).

Best Team-Up

Punisher/Ninja Turtles

After taking a beating from Bullseye, Frank Castle discovered that Jane had been kidnapped by the Red Dogs. But, with the Enforcers wreaking havoc on New York, the Punisher found that unless he got to a safehouse, millions of innocents would die. In order to get there, he had to get the assistance of some unlikely allies--Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michaelangelo, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this Apocalypse: Ageless Fury cross-over (seen in The Punisher #5-6 by Dino Pollard).

Best Hero

Cyclops

Out of all the characters appearing in their own solo titles, it was Cyclops who just barely won this award. He displayed his leadership skills in the pages of The Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, and X-Men Alpha, and he was exposed deeply as a character in X-Men Unlimited #1.

Best Heroine

Blink

By a surprising landslide, Blink took this one. Her addition to the roster of X-Men Omega was something unexpected, as most people expected her to remain with Generation X. And her battle with Sabretooth in X-Men Omega #6 was the event that probably caused many people to vote for her.

Best Villain

Apocalypse

This past year showed Apocalypse coming into the spotlight, as he assembled a new team of Horsemen as well as a group of mutants called the Pale Riders. In the Apocalypse: Ageless Fury crossover, Apocalypse orchestrated the widespread epidemic of the Legacy Virus, the complete destruction of Seattle, and even the impregnation of Phoenix!! And, according to Jay Corafa, writer of the upcoming Team-X title, the best is yet to come!

Best Supporting Character

Artie & Leech

For some reason, fans love these loveable tykes from Generation X. Mikey G. writes them as children who basically want to hang out with the "cool kids." Not as mutants who are ostracized because of their appearence, but just as wide-eyed, innocent kids.

Best Original Character

Weapon-X

The latest addition to X-Force, and star of his own limited series, the new Weapon-X is a bit different from his predecessors. He's a latent telepath who also happens to be a silent killer, and dons a cybernetic suit which grants him the ability to project and control a forcefield. There is much of his past that is revealed to him through dreams, and his actions speak louder than words do. Perhaps that's why readers love him.

Best Team

X-Men Alpha

Fans of the classic X-books love this team which is composed almost entirely of mainstays. There's Cyclops, the quintessential leader. Phoenix, the equivilent of the mother hen. Wolverine, one of the most-popular, if not THE most-popular, character ever created. Storm, the majestic weather goddess. Beast, who serves as both the voice of humor and intellect for the team. And Cannonball, a former rookie who's finally coming into his own as the new leader of the team. With Cyclops in a coma, and Phoenix missing, one can only wonder what new additions returning writer Mari Kapriva (now called Gwyna) has planned.

Best Imprint

X-Men

Those crazy muties have always been Marvel's cash cow, and it seems that the same rings true for M2K!! With a vast selection of titles, extremely talented writers, and superb storytelling, The X-Men is the #1 Imprint at Marvel 2000.

That concludes the First Annual M2K Millennial Awards. We'll see you all again next year!!

2001
(THE SECOND ANNUAL TOOKIES)

Last year M2K went to new heights, untouched by other groups in the fanfic community. We swapped sites from Redrival to Geocities with a minimum of fuss, we redesigned the issue layout and got a very good review piece from the Sophism crew. We have also produced issues week on week, even though sometimes there may have been only one or two issues. We have had a great year creatively too, with the arrival of some great series and the continued success of our current ones as well. Yes, 2001 was a year of tragedy and sorrow and we lost a couple of very talented authors but we also gained some as well. Over the past month, this page has been displayed and we've been pushing the awards as much as we can. The voting has now concluded and the Academy (i.e. you lot) have spoken. Now obviousy, I know the results and there are some very interesting surprises in this years results. So without further ado, on behalf of the Editorial Team of Marvel 2000, we present:

The Marvel 2000 Awards - 2001

Best Title

Fallen Angels

Scripted by Russ Anderson, following on from Dino Pollard and Jay Corafa, Fallen Angels has walked on the risque side of the X-Titles, focusing on the darker edge neede to survive as the chosen ones of Magnus. The tension is palatable and the ensemble of characters work well together to give a crispness to the title that puts it ahead of it's rivals. Well that, and you simply don't want to mess with Magneto...

Best Hero

Spider-Man

Well, what a year the web-slinger's had. The death, the mystery, the intrigue, all wrapped up nicely by Mike Exner, following from Cory Weigel's run. The Rose oblin storyline in particular has shown what can be done with Spider-Man when you try, and showing us why he is rightly Marvel's first hero.

Best Heroine

Ultimate Storm

Now here's one out of the left field for you. In the last year, her role within the Ultimate X-Men by Dino Pollard has been delved in to in more depth than the X-Men Alpha version and created from almost nothing a very well rounded character, and there's no signs of that abating just yet.

Best Villain

Shadow King

To the surprise of none, The Shadow King has taken his one by a landslide. His first appearance was when the site was just starting, but in the last year, thanks to his appearances in Wolverine and machinations across the M2K universe have stablished him as the premiere villain, and believe you me, he hasn't even started yet. As one senior writer at the site has said 'Apocalypse who?'

Best Supporting Character

Nick Fury

Another out of the left field, Nick Fury has been thrust in to the spotlight thanks to his appearnces in Wolverine, X-Force and Excalibur, as well as his alternate counterpart over in Ultimate X-Men. Nick Fury is the Frank Sinatra of SHIELD, the leader, always in control even when it looks like he's being pushed about, and from the looks of things there's much more in store this year as well. And as his predominant writer, I'd know.

Best Original Character

Gilgamesh

Well, well, here's another surprise winner. Gilgamesh, created by Dino Pollard for the late lamented Blade series, has had very few apperances but has gathered a small following, culminating in a smart piece of work by Mike Exner III in the Blade Annual.

Best Team

X-Men Omega

This was a hard category to choose from, but there was really no other winner than X-Men Omega. As the flagship of the X-Men Imprint and longest running team book to date, Dino Pollard has been joined by Brad Horton and the now they've settled as a creative team, you can see their potential coming together and making this the team to beat, with good stories, great characters and cool villains to fight.

Best Imprint

Marvel Knights

Proving that mutants don't have a hold on the majority audience share of the fanfic world, well our slice anyway, the dark and gritty Marvel Knights has shown it's worth and diversity in the last year. Hey, where else can you have the TMNT working alongside Spider-Man and the Crow? Whatever they have it seems to be working.

Best Writer

Russ Anderson

Say hello to M2K's Writer of the Year 2001 - Russ Anderson. His work on Fallen Angels, Scarlet Spider-Man, New Warriors as well as other sundry items on the site inlcuding the Iron Man run and the Marvel Fanfare 9/11 special have pushed Russ in to the spotlight. Be it working alone or co-auhtoring, his diverse titles and unique style have made him one of the big names this year. Oh yes, he also writes reviews for almost all the issues posted, but I'm sure that didn't influence the Academy at all...

Best Fight

X-Men Omega vs Deus
(X-Men Omega Annual 2001)

You wanna know why the X-Men Omega won best team? Because they went one on one with Deus, a villain who has been making his presence felt elsewhere. The guy was big and bad and the X-Men won through but there was a price to pay for the victory, and whiel Deus was down, he certainly wasn't out.

Best Moment

Mutant teen killed in Tampa
(Generation X #9)

There's been some moments this year that have been jaw droppingly good, but the one that has stood out was one early in the year as Mikey G took a bold step in a powefukl issue when a mutant was shot by police after he was stopped for a traffic violation. The events set in motion then haven't fully been played out yet, but the consequences have had ramifications in other titles besides Generation X.

Best Team-Up

Wolverine/TMNT
(Code of Honor TPB)

David Wheatley. Dino Pollard. Two of our best writers, if I say so myself. Put them together on a storyline like this one and you knew you were in for something special, and we didn't disappoint, so it's no surprise that this one got the award. This storyline had it all - sex, death and violence. And more than that, it wasn't your typical ending with the villains walking away in to the sunset, leaving the heroes to pick up their pieces and bury their dead and the after effects have only barely been touched upon.

So there you have it, the awards for 2001, and what an awards it has been. The talent has shone through and it's a very different picture from last year's results, which can still be found here.

Congratulations to all the winners, and let's go on to bigger and better things in 2002. I'm David Wheatley, this has been the Second Annual M2K Millennial Awards and we'll see you next year for the Third Annual Tookies!

2002
(THE THIRD ANNUAL TOOKIES)

Yes, it's Tookie time again and this year has been an incredible year for the group. Join me now as we celebrate the best of the third year of Marvel 2000!

Last year M2K went through some changes and Dino Pollard stepped down as co-EiC, leaving myself in sole charge of the group over an interesting time. This year, as with last, we moved sites from geocities to leeding and then to the home of fanfic sites, digitallymystic, courtesy of Alex Cook, who was one of the several new writers who came on the scene last year. There were some losses creatively, because life is change and fanfic is a low priority, but those who did leave are always welcome back and some have returned with new ideas for new series for 2003, which pleases me greatly and should be of great interest to the rest of yoy as well. It was our third year of putting out fan fiction and we have had releases for every week of the year thus far, a trend I continue to aim for this year, but the culmination of last year's efforts was the Twelve/Apocolypse 2000 event, which was the focal point for the final quarter of the year and 2003 promises even more special things as the group goes from strength to strength.

However the voting has now concluded and the Academy (i.e. you lot) have spoken, and though I tried to convince you otherwise, some of the results have become ties, which makes the results interesting indeed.

So without further ado, I present:

The Marvel 2000 Awards - 2002!

Best Title

Fallen Angels/Iceman

I tried, I really did but you wouldn't break the tie. Fallen Angels has been consistently good again last year and deserves to win again, be it under the guidance of Russ Anderson or Alex Cook, and there was no question of why it retained it's title from last year, but it has to share the podium with Iceman. The offbeat adventures of Bobby Drake have captured the readers and they liked it and it got equal footing with Fallen Angels.

Best Hero

Iceman

The hero of the year was Bobby Drake, flying solo from the X-Men Alpha team in his own title at it seems that last year he got in to the hearts of everyone. Often the forgotten X-Man, overshadowed by the other members of the original team and then by the following generations, only now is Iceman coming in to his own.

Best Heroine

Songbird

The Thunderbolts main stay had one hell of a year and she showed what she could do in style, going from strength to strength under the guidance of Mike Exner III and now, with Chris Munn is in charge of the T-Bolts, Songbird is again going to be one of the characters to watch this year along with the rest of her team of villains turned heroes.

Best Villain

Apocalypse

To the surprise of none, Apocalypse retook the title by a landslide. The machinations of En Sabah Nur have toiled all long and for a few weeks he was indeed the ruler of all he survyered, but like all good villains he got overconfident and he was taken down, and now he's dead and gone, leaving the title up for grabs next year, but as a two time Tookies winner, he won't be forgotten easily.

Best Supporting Character

Jack Reiger/Forge

Another tie, and this was a category that divided opinion across the board, because each winner only got two votes each. The first was Jack Reiger, the police detective from Bishop. He's made a big impact on Bishop's life and it'll be interesting to see where he goes now. The other winner was Forge. His minor roles in M2K lore made him a more or less forgotten character, until his promotion to Director of SHIELD. It was a busy year for him, and it's gonna get busier.

Best Original Character

Moon Man

Moon Man took it. M o_o's pulp hero has been consistently impressive and the majority of you thought so as well, as he fought off some stiff competition to take this year's title.

Best Team

Fallen Angels

This was a close category as well, but there was only one and this time Fallen Angels beat off the rest of the competition, probably by sending Magneto in to warn off the rest of them!.

Best Imprint

X-Men

X-Men retook the title from Knights, thanks to the amazing Apocalypse storyline, plus impressive backing from X-Men Omega, Iceman and the other stalwarts of the imprint. Though Knights did put up one hell of a fight...

Best Writer

Cory Wiegel

This was a close one. Three writers were in third place with 3. Second slot had four votes but the winner with five was Cory Wiegel. His work on Iceman,
X-Men Alpha and that one issue of Amazing Spider-Man pushed him to the front of the writers queue. Or he got all his friends to vote for him. Just kidding, Cor, you won this on merit.

Best Fight

Hulk vs the Sentinels
(Hulk #2)

You know some people are born to fight. Some characters need to fight. Some fighters are created. Hulk versus the Sentinels in Hulk #2 by Derrick Ferguson has it all and I think people were impressed by the way Hulk dispatched the last sentinel.

Best Moment

The Death of Vision
(Avengers #13)

Anyone noticed that Heroes is getting a bit of a rough deal right now? The balance is addressed here with the Best Moment of 2002 going to Avengers #13, written by Will Short, when Hank Pym kills the Vision. The death of Vision is one of those moments you don't forget because you always wondered if things were going to turn out okay. They didn't.

Best Team-Up

X-Force/Excalibur
(X-Force #20-23, Excalibur #7-9)

David Wheatley. Your EiC. The person presenting these awards and the mastermind behind the crossover, a seven issue special covering a war in Greece between SHIELD and the Death's Head Commando's for what was subtitled as 'The Death in Greece Saga' which united the SHIELD and UN teams for something that was more or less seemless, but then I've always believed that the best crossovers are the ones written by one person and I like to prove my point every now and then.

The Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame

Russ Anderson

This year I've added a new category to the awards - the Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame, honouring the people who have contributed to the group and made it what it is today. The first inductee is Russ Anderson. He's been here a long time. Iron Man, Fallen Angels, Defenders, and now Avengers West Coast have cemented his rep as a solid writer and his time as EiC showed what he could do to lead a ragtag group of writers, setting the standard I've endeavoured to match. Round of applause for Russ Anderson, folks!!!

So there you have it, the awards for 2002, and what an awards it has been. The talent has shone through yet again and I'm proud and pleased to present the winners with their awards, so congratulations to all, and just wait and see what we've got in store for 2004. I'm David Wheatley, this has been the Third Annual M2K Millennial Awards and we'll see you next year for the Fourth Annual Tookies!

2003
(THE FOURTH ANNUAL TOOKIES)

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

God, you have to love the pomp and ceremony of these things. Nothing better than an awards show, as we finally present the 2003 Tookies!!!

The fourth year of M2K was a year of finishes, of finales, of change. I announced at the start of the year that I was going to be stepping down as EiC of M2K and as a writer for the site. I'd like to say it was a hard decision, but it was easier than it looked. You make a choice and you stick to it, but in the process of standing down there were things that I needed to do as well, and it set the tone for the rest of the year. Stories needed to be finished and that was what I wanted to make sure happened, and include as many people in the conclusions of arcs as possible. Project: Atlantis was born and the game was on, uniting all the imprints of M2K in a crossover, something that had never been attempted across all four areas of M2K. Did it work? For me, it did. It included people, it told a good story and set up a lot of things for the future. Not everyone may see it that way, but I think it worked and was the high point of the year for me.

We also had a lot of changes. Series came to an end, writers went away, titles changed. Things have to change in order to go on and that's a lot of the reasons that M2K keeps going. I know the site has it's critics, that there are people who feel that some of our writers aren't good enough to write the big titles. People have their opinions and that's fine - I never saw it that way. I feel everyone deserves a chance no matter of talent or experience and I gave them it and out of that we got some great new series this year including my own personal highlight, Pathetix. However, that's the point of the Tookies - to reward the people and the series who have entertained us - the fans. It's the Fourth Annual Tookies - let's get it on.

In a change to the usual formats, I will be posting the top three nominations for each section by number of votes, as the Tookies operates on a write in voting systems, so let's start with:

Best Title
Nominations: Avengers West Coast, Champions, X-Corp

Champions

Mike Exner came to me about August and said 'I want to write for M2K, what
have you got?' We went through a few things and he had this idea for the
Champions, and Mike has never let anyone down before with the quality of his
work and within five months Champions had become on of the most popular titles at the site and is the worthy winner of the title Best Title 2003.

Best Hero
Nominations: Daredevil, Iceman, Wolverine

Iceman

For the second year in succession, Iceman has been voted as the best hero at
the site, a feat even more impressive as Cory Weigel is not the most productive writer in terms of issues and he only picked the series back up again in June. Iceman's solo adventures have an orginality to them that works in terms of emotion and adventure and shows a human side to the Best Hero 2003.

Best Heroine
Nominations: Black Widow, Elektra, Invisible Woman

Black Widow

I don't think it's much of a surprise that Black Widow came out on top, as her title is the only female solo series on site, and Jason Eberly does a remarkable job of putting her through her paces. Jason had a few problems last year with his health, but it's only impact on his writign was putting him out of commission. Black Widow's adventures have always had consitency and given Natasha a new lease of life, making her worthy winner of Best Heroine 2003.

Best Villain
Nominations: Dr. Doom, Scourge, Shadow King

Shadow King

The runaway winner for a second time in four years, the Shadow King's presence and actions over the last year have earned him the title of best villain, due in no small part ot the things he has done in Wolverine and X-Force. The master telepath and Apocalypse have been duking it out for four years as to who is the best and now that the two of them are dead and gone, another villain is in with a shot, but this year Ahmal Farouk is the Best Villain 2003.

Best Supporting Character
Nominations: Elektra, Horace Jasper, Rappin' Prosh

Rappin' Prosh

Prosh has always been KITT to Cable's Michael Knight, but this year he's been able to do more, due to the altering of Cable's supporting cast. With his presence over the many, many issues that Brad Horton's put out over the last year, he has been more than the sidekick, the explanatory aide to what is going on, he's been a character in his own right, and with the ending of the Cable series his destiny has been fulfilled, making him the Best Supporting Character 2003.

Best Original Character
Nominations: Diode, Genesis, Kamikaze

Diode

Diode, or Roni Santiago, first appeared at M2K in X-Men Omega #54 by Brad
Horton in May and has been a permanent fixture of his plans ever since, becoming one of the members of X-Corp. There aren't many original characters
at M2K that have had as much impact as she's had but Brad has pushed her in
to the spotlight and in doing so he's made her the worthy winner of Best Original Character 2003.

Best Team
Nominations: Avengers West Coast, Champions, Thunderbolts

Avengers West Coast

Avengers West Coast by Russ Anderson and Chris Munn has been another of the
major hits this year for the site, born of the desire to have an Avengers team that was more familiar than the line up in it's sister title by Brent Lambert. It's got a great Avengers line up and because of the action packed adventures they rightly take the title of being the Best Team 2003.

Best Imprint
Nominations: Heroes, Knights, X-Men

X-Men

For the third time in four years the X-Branch takes the title, with the quality titles and the frequency of the issue releases. It also has some of the best names of the site housed there, people like Brent Lambert, Brad Horton, Alex Cook, and David Ingram. However, with the changes that have taken place, it's going to have to fight to retain it's dominance as the other two imprints are close behind, but this year X-Men is the Best Imprint 2003.

Best Writer
Nominations: Brad Horton, Mike Exner III, Chris Munn

Brad Horton

Brad's written so much for the site - Captain Marvel, Deadpool, X-Men Omega,
Cable and he was one of the masterminds behind the recent Apocalypse storylines and this year he's pulled out all the stops to make each thing work. He's now on with X-Corp and X-Men Prime, making him the man behind the mutant titles and it'll will be nothing but beneficial to have the Best Writer of 2003 on the books.

Best Fight
Nominations: Avengers vs Thunderbolts, Black Widow vs Doctor Doom,
X-Men vs Shadow X-Men

Original X-Men vs Shadow X-Men
(X-Men Forever)

Widely acknowledged as the showpiece of the year, this was the culmination of the Shadow King plotlines and featrued the coming together of the original X-Men after they had drifted apart after the death of Xavier. Inspired by the Shadow King arc, Cory Wiegel and Brad Horton worked hard to put the battle together and set the scene for theit collabortive work on the X-Men Prime series, but it was the this that started that off and is rightly the Best Fight of 2003.

Best Moment
Nominations: Grizzly and Gibbon are killed by the police, Johnny Storm
reveals his bisexuality, Original X-Men reunite

Grizzly and Gibbon are killed by Police
(Iceman #16)

The moment in #16 of Iceman where the two former villains go out together, shot by the police who are after them is reminiscent of the endings of Thelma and Louise, or Butch and Sundance, where they go out together, knowing that it's the only way it can end. It's a cinema moment in a piece of fanfiction and that's why it gets the award for Betst Moment 2003.

Best Team-Up
Nominations: Captain America, Iron Man and X-Force,
E-Force and Pathetix, X-Corp and Fantastic Four

X-Corp and Fantastic Four
(X-Corp #9-11)

X-Corp through December had the team up between the First Family of Marvel
and the First Family of Mutant Celebrity as the two of them worked together
against the villain Feng Tu. From #9 to #11 the team battled each other and then Feng Tu and forged bonds between teams, and it will be interesting to see how each of the other teams react to the changes that take place with each other. There were a lot of team-ups this year and this was the Best Team-Up 2003.

The Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame

So we're down to the last of this year's awards, continuing the category we
started last year. So now, joining Russ Anderson in M2K Hall of Fame is....

David Wheatley

The former EiC, longtime writer of Wolverine, X-Force, Excalibur, X-Men 2099
and X-Men Prime, he has written a substantial amount of single issues on the
other titles and is issue tally for the site is second only to group founder Dino Pollard. He's produced an issue a week for his duration as EiC and while there's an amount of people who object to the way he did things, he did them for the good of the site and that's been recognised by the voters by naming the 2003 Inductee to the Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame.

So there you have it, the awards for 2003 and what an awards it has been. The talent has shone through yet once more and I'm proud and pleased to present the winners with their awards on behalf of the M2K EiCs, so congratulations to all.

2004 promises to be a year that matches the previous ones in terms of quality, quantity and energy, so stick with M2K and we'll see you all next year for the Fifth Annual Tookies!!!

2004
(THE FIFTH ANNUAL TOOKIES)

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

Err... damn. I really can't say stuff like that without sounding like a silly, drunk-ass American bloke. Next year, if Wheatley isn't off chasing hurricanes and bikinis in Florida like he is right now, we're sooo roping him into doing this again.

So! It's been a long time and coming, but the Fifth Annual Marvel 2000 Millennial Awards are finally here! Everyone voted sometime back in February and March for these things, which was late enough as it was, but for some during the rebuilding of Marvel 2000 after The Great Crash of '04, as well as the changing of Editorial guard, they were just forgotten about! Having found the results, I decided it was my duty to post them here for all to see. Not only that, but we've got a little treat for you all. This year, we're doing things a little different!

Every year, an editor makes their own personal announcement in regards to who won which award (try saying that ten times fast). While Brent Lambert and I are indeed delivering some of the awards, we've also brought together some of M2K's finest writers, past and present, to present our esteemed winners with their awards! So without further adieu... Brent and I bring you the 2004 Tookies!!!

Best Title
Nominations: Avengers West Coast, Black Widow, Champions, Excalibur, X-Men Prime

X-Men Prime

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Dino Pollard, founder and former writer/EiC of M2K. And I was asked by the esteemed (HAH!) new EiC, Cory Wiegel, to announce the Tookie for Best Title. What does it mean to have the best title? I thought I’d list the definition of the words “best” and “title,” but let’s face facts—I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about. Hell, my English skills are so bad that immigrants who don’t even know the language point and laugh at my existence. So in return, I point and laugh at the existence of two other people – Cory Wiegel and Brad Horton. I mean, a Californian and a cheesehead–they’re like the new Odd Couple. On crack. So how can I not laugh at them? Everyone else does. When I first started M2K, I was writing the X-Men books, and my purpose was simple: I wanted to fuck shit up. Cory and Brad have not only continued that tradition, but they’ve fucked shit up even more. I mean, c’mon, Apollyon posing as Cyclops and boning his mom? That’s pretty fucked up. And because of them, X-MEN PRIME has rightly earned the Tookie for Best Title. So congratulations guys, you’ve earned it.

Best Hero
Nominations: Black Knight, Joey Chapman, Daredevil, Hawkeye, Wolverine

Hawkeye

Ah, Chris Munn for his work with Hawkeye. Michael Shirley here, future President (or Dictator, depending on how you look at it) of the United States of America. Chris Munn's Ultimate Avengers Hawkeye was bad and ass. As was his regular Hawkeye. Masterful storyteller and all around good guy, if you can get passed his smell. I never liked Hawkeye, or really any Avenger, until the work of Chris Munn. It made me like the characters so much that I started buying Avenger books to find out that these characters still sucked unless guided by our favorite Munn-Thing. Congrat, Munn! I can't think of a nicer bastard to give this award to. I have a sunburn.

Best Heroine
Nominations: Black Widow, Mirage, Phoenix, Scarlet Witch, Warbird

Phoenix

Good Evening, everybody. Many of you know me as Jason Bruss, the infamous writer "JJ" of the Fantastic Four. As the writer for M2K's Fantastic Four, I get to tool my hands with one of Marvel's Leading Ladies every day. Tonight, I get to do the same with another one of my favorite leading ladies. This year's award for Best Heroine goes to a woman of incredible caliber. Loretta Lynn's "Stand By Your Man" could best describe this woman. She's seen her husband be impersonated by her own spawn of evil and has gone great leap's in the memory of a man whom saved her countless times from her own mind. She's battled the universe and seen part's of it that none of us will ever experience. I'm proud to hand this year's Best Geroine award to Marvel and M2K's most fiery redhead with a rapture to shine... I give you, Jean Grey-Summers... The X-Men's Phoenix!!!

Best Villain
Nominations: Apollyon, Baron Zemo, Dr. Doom, Moomba, Thanos

Baron Zemo

Hello to all my minions this is Brent Lambert, your wonderful half-EiC. The Winner of the Best Villian award is Baron Zemo. Why should a Nazi win this award? Well this particular Nazi knocked up Genosha and Magneto worse than a drunk girl on prom night. Let's not forget he commands one of the nastiest teams at M2K and his deal with Vagabond is just plain nasty. But back to why he really won. He put his foot on Mags' head and has been written by Chris Munn for the past couple of years now! 'Nuff said...

Best Supporting Character
Nominations: Cerebro, Genesis, Horace Jaspers, Sally, William Peak

Cerebro

Best Original Character
Nominations: Binary II, Diode, Horace Jaspers, Spectra, Weapon X

Diode

What's up people, Logan Polk here. While all of you eagerly await my impending return to M2K, Cory asked me to give away one of these stupid awards. I told him no, but he said if I didn't he'd give the Punisher title to his twelve year old girlfriend to write. Twist my arm why don't you? So, anyway, I'm here to present the Best Original Character award. It's an award I feel strongly about, because in this world of fanfic, it's always nice to see some people striving to create something new and unique. The voting was close...but the winner deserves it. And the Oscar goes to...Bud Heaton for his character Demode!

Huh? Wait, Cory's telling me something...Brad? Diode? Who the hell is Brad Horton? Never heard of him or Diode. X-Corp? Who reads the X-branch anyway? Well, damn, sorry Bud, didn't mean to get your hopes up, maybe next year.

Congrats to Brad, you really deserve it...I guess!

Best Team
Nominations: Avengers West Coast, Champions, Defenders, Excalibur, Force Works, X-Corp, X-Men Prime

Avengers West Coast

David Ingram here, writer of In the Name of Science, Force Works, Excalibur, New Warriors and some other stuff you’ve also never read! And I’m here to announce the winners of Marvel 2000’s tookies! Well, not all of them. Bush’s Supreme Court has ruled I might use such an opportunity to get on my high horse -- *Brad Horton whacks a steel chair over David's head, David falls to the ground unconscious.*

What up, nerd bombers? Brad Horton (X-Corp writer, X-Men plotter) here. Cory must have chosen me to present this particular award so that Ingram wouldn't geek out and use this space as an anti-Bush platform. Who cares if some of the readers don't like the guy - this ain't the place for it! Anyway, with that said, it is my pleasure to present Avengers West Coast with the 2004 Tookie Award for Best Team. Chris Munn is the man behind the palm tree-lovin' heroes, so let's give it up for him, shall we? Oh, and let's give it up for the team themselves: Hawkeye, Iron Man, Warbird, Beast, Captain Marvel, Darkhawk, Two-Gun Kid, Vagabond, Wasp, and Henry Pym! If all else, it makes us all hate Bendis a little more for offing Hawkeye, then bringing his punk ass back like nothing happened. Congrats, Chris!

*David begins grumbling hysterically as he regains consciousness.* And remember, read this book or the terrorists win! *Brad looks down to David and frowns, then hits him with the steel chair again.*

Best Imprint
Nominations: Heroes, Knights, X-Men

Heroes

For the first time in four years, the Heroes Branch has won the Tookie award for "Best Branch", and as much as I'd love to take the credit for this...I can't. Chris Munn here. When I signed on as co-EiC close to two years ago, my main goal was to bring the Heroes to the forefront of the site. M2K had long been dominated by the X-Men, which is all well and good since that branch had quality stuff without a doubt, but to me no Marvel site should be without Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Avengers, or the Fantastic Four.

To be fair, most of the pieces for the Heroes Branch revival were there before I stepped in: Jeff Melton's excellent THOR, Mike Exner III's CHAMPIONS, Jason Bruss' FANTASTIC FOUR; but there were three titles I was proud to see happen during my tenure as editor. Dino Pollard's IRON MAN, David Ingram's EXCALIBUR, and Steve Crosby's CAPTAIN AMERICA (even if the latter only started as I was walking out the door after handing the reigns to another editor). The branch also gave me and Curt Fernlund the chance to do something I'd wanted to do since the moment I took over as editor: JLA/AVENGERS, a story which took over a year to produce and is just now seeing the light of day.

So, really, I guess I had very little to do with the Heroes Branch winning this, so I'm just going to give props to all the writers that helped contribute to the branch being able to kick so much ass: Jeff Melton, Dino Pollard, Steve Crosby, Derrick Ferguson, Tom Deja, Gregg Epstein, Brent Lambert, Mike Exner III, Russ Anderson, Curt Fernlund, and David Ingram. You guys are the reason it won, so I hope you're all happy in sharing this award with one another.

Best Writer
Nominations: Jason Eberly, Curt Fernlund, Brad Horton, David Ingram, Chris Munn

Curt Fernlund

Yeah, I (Dino Pollard), am back again. That’s because Cory’s a right lazy bastard and he couldn’t take the time to find another presenter. So he begged me on his hands and knees like a little bitch to announce the Tookie for Best Writer. And it was so pathetic, that I couldn’t bear to see him like that. So I took a picture of him with tears streaming down his face, toned down my hysterical laughter, and agreed. This award goes to the writer who demonstrates an incredible amount of skill and cunning in bribing people to vote for him. And as a former winner, let me tell you, it’s no easy task. Especially when you have to compete with Munn and his magic brownies (and no, the secret ingredient is NOT love, because Munn hates you all and hopes you burn in the fiery pits of Hell – I’m serious, he told me himself). And this year, we have someone who went above and beyond the call of duty to pimp himself out to win the coveted Tookie for Best Writer. This is a man who pimps like no other, and his mastery over blurbs and previews makes me want to kidnap him and transplant his brain into my skull. But in all seriousness, he’s an amazing writer, one of the finest in the community, and this is an award he richly deserves. So congratulations, Curt Fernlund, you’re M2K’s Best Writer.

Best Fight
Nominations: Elektra vs. Wolverine, Fallen Angels vs. Thunderbolts, Force Works vs. Avengers West Coast

New School vs. Old School
(X-Men Prime #17)

Hey, my name is Adnan Khan, and you may remember me from some short stints on various titles such as Amazing Spider-Man, Blade, Thor, and The Chosen. I'm making a brief return to M2K tonight to present my boys Cory Wiegel and Brad Horton with the Tookies award for Best Fight, one which involved an all out free for all between Apollyon and his 'Horsemen' of next generation X-Men and our beloved heroes the X-Men. The fight was a conclusion to a series, X-Men Prime, that had gone through various writers and various crossovers. It had been a long time, but finally someone brought back the more traditional X-Men at M2K to explored their roots, and personally? It was classic X-Men. Dealing with issues involving their race and their attempts to be accepted, which erupts into a full-scale riot in the nation's capital, and ending with a woman killing her son with him screaming that he always loved her. It doesn't get better than that folks!!

Best Moment
Nominations: Joey Chapman's victory over Pete Wisdom, Baron Zemo revealing himself to Magneto, Wolverine avenging his son's death, Galactus being handed over to the Skrulls

Wolverine avenges his son's death
(X-Men Prime #14-15)

Cory Wiegel, your resident half-EiC and co-writer of X-Men (don't I ever do anything by myself?). Gotta give mad props to Brad Horton for this one. Him and I were trading off on the plotting duties of FOURTH GENESIS in X-Men Prime, our very first arc which would set the status quo for our entire run, and we were doing a lot to try and surprise each other. I had woken up one morning, found an e-mail in my mail box marked "X-Hombres #14 Primero" or something silly like that, and when I read it over my eyes nearly bulged out of my sockets. "Let's have the Friends of Humanity throw Wolverine's baby son in a fire barrel!" Brad said. "It'd be genius!" If nothing else, the fans sure loved it -- this was one of the few landslide votes this year! Congrats, Brad. You plotted this scene and you wrote this scene, so this award is uniquely yours! Time to get drunk and belittle womankind by throwing money at strippers!

Best Team-Up
Nominations: Avengers West Coast and Force Works, Darkseid and Thanos, Moon Gods and the Avengers, Sabretooth and Wolverine

Avengers West Coast and Force Works

This is Troy Bengal, writer of X-Force and Fallen Angels. I'm here to present the Best-Team Up award to my good buddy, Daniel Ingram for his work on Force Works/ Avengers West Coast. The team-up won for obvious reasons as the fight between the two teams was simply an eye dropping one and the careful love of the characters invovled was shown. Daniel deserves any and all accolades for this piece of work. Congrats Dave! Keep them coming!

The Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame

So we're down to the last of this year's awards, continuing the category we started two years ago. So now, joining Russ Anderson and David Wheatley in the M2K Hall of Fame is....

Dino Pollard

Call it a late entry, but when the Tookies Committee was thinking of all of the nominees for The Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame, Dino's name was one of the first to come up. Russ Anderson and David Wheatley were stand out choices for Hall of Fame, but Dino Pollard started it all and has contributed more to M2K then anyone else. The guy is not only two time Editor-in-Chief at the site, but he's the founder of the group along with Jay Corafa and has written over twelve titles for the site in his on-again off-again career here! So congratulations and a big fat "you the man!" goes out to Dino Pollard this year. Without him we wouldn't be here and many of us wouldn't have become the writers we are today without him.

That's it folks! But believe it or not, next year we'll be returning on schedule. The voting for the Sixth Annual Marvel 2000 Millennial Awards will begin January 1st, 2006 and the results will be posted the following February 1st. While we're likely going to have less releases this issue, we still have some damn fine stories lined up. Once again I'd like to congratulate all of the winners and thank you all for voting! See ya next year!

2005
(THE SIXTH ANNUAL TOOKIES)

HERE YE! HERE YE! HERE YE!

Looks like my resolution from last year's ceremony to never say that again hasn't exactly stuck, but y'know what? I actually like saying it! It's been one hell of a year and a good portion of it has been spent getting back on our feet after the ominous Crash of '04! There's been a few bits of controversy here and there, which frankly don't need addressing, but easily do the moments of greatness that we've shared together overshadow any disputes there may have been in the past year. We've welcomed a couple of talented new writers on the staff, we've had several fan-favorite writers return to the fold with some brilliant projects in mind, and one hell of an inter-site crossover! All those reasons and more made 2005 one hell of a comeback year by any fanfic site's standards, and I'm proud to once again bring you Marvel 2000's Millenial Awards.

So without further moment for reflection, I bring you - our faithful readers and writers - the best of the best for 2005!

Best Title

Thor and Thunderbolts!

Runner Up: The Avengers

As the newest Co-EiC of Marvel 2000, a writer, and even a longer time fan, it's a great pleasure for me, Jason Bruss, to announce the 2005 Tookie award for Best Title. In order to be nominated for the Best Title award I feel you should release regularly, have well scripted and plotted stories, have a great over-all story arc with mini arcs within. You should have individual personalities for each of your titles characters and have a good connection with the sites continuity. This year, we had several great comeback titles and votes taking by staff and readers alike have resulted in this year's best title being a tie. The award for Best Title goes to Jeff Melton, writer of Thor, and Chris Munn, writer of Thunderbolts. Congratulations to both winners and I hope to see others strive for this reward in the 2006 Tookies Ceremony!!!

Best Hero

Captain America

Runner Up: Cyclops

This is Chris Munn, writer on Thunderbolts and recently departed writer on both Avengers and Avengers West Coast, presenting you the award for M2K's Best Hero for 2005!  Were it up to me, the character winning this year would win every year, hands down, no matter what.  Captain America, in my eyes, is the quintessential hero of the Marvel Universe, the man that every other hero looks up to and the one person that always finds a way to succeed, no matter how bleak the situation.

Of course, this past year Cap has had one incredible writer handling his solo adventures.  Steve Crosby came onto the book late in the game, and while his run is still in its early phases no one can deny the power and intensity that the Cros has brought with each and every issue that's fallen under his pen.  The good Captain was also blessed with being a major part of the JLA/Avengers mega-series that graced the annuls of Marvel 2000 this year, but because I helped write that epic I'll let all the praise fall at the feet of Steve and my Avengers co-writer, Curt Fernlund.

So here's to Captain America, the winning hero of this year and every year.

Best Heroine

Invisible Woman

Runner Up: Warbird

Hey, dudes. Brad Horton here to announce M2K's winner for best heroine.
It was a close race, but it looks like Jessica Alba pulled through. I know Storm and She-Hulk fans were mad, but Jessica took the top spot by showing us her top in Fantastic Four.

{{ It's Invisible Woman, you jag-off! }}

Huh, wha?

{{ Invisible Woman. The character. She won best heroine. Jason Bruss wrote her. }}

Yeah, I know. Hence, why Jessica Alba won.

{{ Jessica Alba PLAYED Invisible Woman. }}

Yeah, I know. That's why--

{{ Just. Stop. }}

Who is this?

{{ Uh... Cerebro. }}

Didn't I kill you off in X-Men?

{{ You couldn't write a convincing death scene if your life depended on it, Cheesehead! }}

Wait....Cory?! Is that you?

{{ Uh.... no. END TRANSMISSION }}

Um...yeah. So anyway, let's get back to fantasizing about Jessica Alba...

Best Villain

... Ra's Al Ghul?!

Runner Up: Infinity and Dr. Midas (tie)

No cry of foul is needed here.

Sure, JLA/Avengers brought us a large number of powerful Marvel villains that had given both iconic teams a run for their money. Doctor Midas, Annihillus, Blastaar and of course Count Nefaria. Your pick for best villain, however, was the only DC baddie to really participate in the event, and he was the only one needed. It should also be no surprise that he's primarily a Batman villain.

His name is Ra's al Ghul, and while all the other villains I'd mentioned were busy hitting things, The Demon's Head was going for nothing short of total world domination. The best thing about this? Ra's believed he was acting in the world's best interests. Ra's al Ghul may not technically be a Marvel villain, but his way of thinking is certainly reminicient of a few. Like Doctor Doom, Magneto, Thanos and Kang, Ra's al Ghul is not motivated solely by power. He believes that our present governments are annihilating the world's environment, and that it's survival rests in his hands. When the massive JLA/Avengers slugfest spilled over into the DC universe, Ra's al Ghul used his resources to aid the heroes against the greater threat of Count Nefaria, while all the while plotting his escape and future quest for domination. That is why you voted for him, folks, and why Ra's al Ghul is M2K's Villain of the Year.

That or you all thought you were voting for Wolverine.

They do kind of have the same hair.

Best Supporting Character

Alicia Masters-Grimm

Runner Up: Nick Fury

Howdy y'all. Chris Oliva present, here to announce M2K's Best Supporting Character Tookie. You may remember me from such short lived series as PathetiX and Hellcat and possibly the super short run on New Mutants. Regardless, I'm here to bestow this very prestigious award to none other than Jason Bruss, and his fabulous run on Fantastic Four. Now you may be wondering which character FROM Fantastic Four. Well...no one saw this coming. Not even her. Alicia Masters, a.k.a. Mrs. Benjamin Grimm stole the show.

Now one thing I noticed about Alicia is her incredibly...um...risque Headshot. Now is it me, or is Alicia getting rather bizzay in that pose? Makes me wonder what else she's doing that we can't see....I guess blind people do have fun! Regardless, toodles and an extra congrats to Jason for winning!

Best Original Character

Diode

Runner Up: Binary II

To the surprise of no one, Brad Horton's original character Roni Santiago - also known to X-Corp and the M2K universe over as Diode - has taken the award for the third year in the row!!! The 'original character' has always been an interesting staple in fan fiction. Either writers tend to give their characters every power possessed by the most popular canon characters in an attempt to make them the super-cool virtual war machines (what I like to call the all flash, no substance approach) or they avoid the idea of a creating an in-depth original creation and simply use such creations as a one-shot machine to move their plots forward.

Brad here has decided to go with the rarely used third option. He's taken a considerable amount of time and effort over the last few years to make Diode one of the most memorable original characters of all time. In-depth, clever, funny, and sometimes even tragic, Ron Santiago has once again been named Marvel 2000's Best Original Character! Her's was a unique and eccentric personality - this Latina mutant with power over electricity and a flare for porn and fart jokes won the hearts of many readers and writers. Her untimely, though ultimately tragic and heroic, sacrifice brought a tear to my eye as it marked the passing of a great character, but it also made way for some other writer to have a shot at this award. Will they take it and outdo Diode?

.... Hahaha! Nah! I wouldn't bet on it! Congrats Brad! Your ingenuity here has rightly earned you the Best Original Character award for the third year in a row!

Best Team

Avengers

Runner Up: Fantastic Four

So I missed the memo…

When I, Curt Fernlund, saw on the M2K List that Cory needed Announcers for this year’s Tookies I figured ‘Why not’.  I know that I don’t write for M2K anymore, but I still follow the stories as best as I can, and for the hours of entertainment that M2K has provided me I figured that I should give a bit back.  Now when Cory made his announcement as to what categories needed an Announcer and I saw that one of those was ‘Best Team’, well, I figured that was put there for me.  It was Fate…

Conflict of interest?  Maybe, but I’ll explain that down below.  For now, suffice it to say that I’ve always liked the Team Books: the Fantastic Four, the Defenders, the Thunderbolts, hell, the Legion of the Unliving for that matter.  In the comics, the Team Book always meant something special.  More heroes for your 12 cents, 15, 20, 25, etc.  And with more heroes it also meant more villains or bigger, stronger villains with a bigger scope in their Grand Schemes.  The Team Books always brought in that little extra that kept me coming back for more.  Earth-shattering events or major Cross-overs, Acts of Vengeance or Grand Games of Life and Death… I’ve always loved the Cosmic Epics and the Cast of Thousands involved, and those stories that ran for issues and needed a whole legion of heroes to resolve.  I remember that my very first comic, inherited from my sister’s meager pile was a Team Book- and, apparently THE BEST Team as chosen by this year’s Tookies…

The Avengers!

And therein lies the conflict.  How can I possibly write an unbiased announcement when I had a hand in the stories in the running?  Well, I can’t, and I won’t even try.  I love the Avengers and have for years.  That first comic that I mentioned above was Avengers # 20 or 21- somewhere in there- where the Swordsman was pushing Cap off the construction site while Hawkeye, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch looked on in horror.  How great was that?  It got me hooked.

I have since gone back and bought up every issue of the Avengers- both new and old- as well as every issue that they appeared in, in other titles as best as I could.  Yeah, I’m a fan.  I admit it, and I don’t care.  Avengers is GREAT!

So you can imagine how excited I was when Chris Munn suggested that he and I do a run on Avengers, and not only just a run, but a Crossover between sites that would also include their Dynamic Competition- the Justice League.  Jesus, I had been waiting over 20 years to see that book by Perez in the mainstream, and now here it was thrown in my lap for Fanfic!  Of course I would do it!  Are you nuts?  Yes!

But is that why Avengers is THE BEST TEAM, because I got to write my dream book?  No, not even.  It’s history, and the aforementioned Cast of Thousands.  It’s the artists and all the writers both in mainstream and online that keep me coming back for more.  It’s the likes of Brent Lambert writing the title at M2K, who graciously stepped aside for a couple months to allow me and Chris to play in his yard.  It’s David Wheatly and Mike Shirley who were involved in the editing.  It’s all the writers who write the books about the characters that comprise the team, like Cap and Thor and Iron Man that make it great.  It’s about Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas and John Buscema, Kurt Busiek and George Perez, Adams, Shooter, Englehart, Buckler, etc, etc, etc…

And above all it’s the stories.  It’s that Cosmic thing that keeps me coming back!  That grand scope that the other teams just can’t ever get or compare to- just can’t hope to achieve.  Ever…

The Avengers ARE the BEST!  Always were, and always will be.  ‘Nuff Said!

Assemble!

Best Imprint

Heroes

Runner Up: X-Men

I'm Jeff Melton, the writer of Thor at Marvel 2000, and it's my pleasure to announce the winner for the Best Imprint ath Marvel 2000. The three branches
up for nomination were the X-Men branch, the Knights branch, and the Heroes
branch. The winner this year is the Heroes branch.

Looking at this excellent branch, there can be little doubt why it has such strong support among the fans. From the two Avengers titles--Avengers (featuring some great stories by Brent Lambert, and part of this year's JLA/Avengers collaboration) and Avengers West Coast well-written by Chris Munn--as its anchor, the branch also features the Champions, which has one of the most interesting line-ups of all of the titles. Steve Crosby's Captain America and Jason Bruss' Fantastic Four help strengthen the branch with their own new takes on these classic characters. Alpha Flight (by Gregg Epstein) and Excalibur (by David Ingram) provide some interesting contrast to the Avengers line of titles. Thor, written by myself, is done for the older fans of the Silver Age. And Marvel Fanfare provides for an interesting mix of stories in an anthology format.

The Heroes branch had a break-out year, with some fine writing and big stories. It is likely that, with this line-up firmly in place, that the Heroes branch will be a tough contender for some time to come.

Best Writer

Chris Munn

Runner Up: Jeff Melton

Last year I, Logan Polk, got stuck giving away the award for Best Original Character, this year it's best writer. That's me always the bridesmaid never the bride. I mean, I released a Punisher story last year, what the hell people?

So, I didn't win, but Chris Munn did, and for what? Avengers/JLA...he had a co-writer! I wrote that whole three page Punisher story BY MYSELF! And I killed a man in my story, what did he accomplish? You people don't know talent, I tell ya...

Seriously, congrats man, you earned it. Well, I guess you did, I don't read fanfic, it's for geeks. Everyone else, keep an eye out for new issues of The Punisher, coming whenever I decide you've earned them!

Best Fight

The Avengers

vs.

The Justice League of America

Runner Up: Thor vs. Ulik

Now I cry foul!

Stephen Crosby here, relative newcomer to M2K. Sure, I wrote a couple one-issue stories for the likes of Scarlet Spider and Captain Marvel, not to mention as brief stint as co-plotter for Ultimate Avengers, but this is first solo ongoing work at M2K with the title Captain America. Yes I, Stephen Crosby, cry foul!

You see, the winner of this year's M2K Tookie Awards is JLA vs. Avengers, a massive brawl that took place in a massive inter-group crossover between M2K's Avengers and JLU2001's...uh, JLA. Going into the story itself, penned by epic masterful writers Chris Munn and Curtis Fernlund, would take far too long and isn't really what this category is about. Let's face it, we only tuned into the story for one thing, the fight!

Oh, and we had a beauty of a brawl here. Take your pick of which fight actually one, folks. JLA versus the Squadron Supreme. Avengers versus the Crime Syndicate of Amerika. Both JLA and Avengers teams in separate brawls against the likes of Annihilas and Count Nefaria! Bah, these clashes of titans were merely the appetizers and the desserts to the grand main course that was Avengers versus JLA!

We got it all in this fight, lady (if there's more than one, make your voice known!) and gentlemen. Too much really to mention, all the pairings and surprise upsets. Needless to say that a battle this epic went out on a high note, with a bone-shattering smack down that made me gasp at my computer!

So you're all probably wondering, if I thought this fight was so cool, why am I crying foul? Because, instead of taking place in the Avengers title, this and most of the other big fights occured in that other title, the one that starts with a 'J'. But I'm willing to forgive it this one time. But only because the Avengers proved they didn't need a home court advantage.

It's all in the names people. Justice League of America. Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Best Moment

Asgard Celebrates Galactus's Defeat!

Runner Up: Pittsburgh No More

Ah, the Tookies. The pomp, the circumstance… God I love this stuff. It’s been a while since I stood here handing out these awards, but I’m back, if only for a little while, though it’s quite nice to see that after I stopped, Cory had to bring in everyone to succeed me. Kudos man, you’ll be rewarded for it someday, but for now this award is for the Best Moment. Jeff Melton is one of the unsung heroes of M2K. He plugs away at Thor, submitting issues as and when. Never complains, and his work is gold and you recognised that by naming the Asgardian celebrations in #14 as your favourite moment of last year. Nice one Jeff, it’s been a while in coming, but it’s well deserved. I’ll be right back to induct the newest member in to the M2K Hall of Fame.

Best Team-Up

The Avengers/Justice League of America

Runner Up: Avengers/Thunderbolts

Hiya. This is Kristi Manchester, "Teaming Up" with Brent Lambert to bring you all The Best Team-Up of 2005! I'm the current writer of a Wolverine five-part story in X-Men Unlimited and soon to be the ongoing writer of Wolverine, and Brent Lambert's the current writer of M2K's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers, as well as Assistant Editor!

To get to the meat and bones of this award, I think this announcement is pretty much a formality because there is simply no way I can explain the epic nature and pure awesomeness of JLA/Avengers.

Quiet, you. We have to present the award for Best Team-Up the *RIGHT WAY* because if we don't our resident EiC, Cory Wiegel, probably won’t accept my Iron Man proposal.

Oh, right. lol

But anyway enough about that, the tookie for Best Team-Up of 2005 for the JLA/Avengers.

This was a story that impacted three universes (read the story and you'll know) so greatly that the effects will be felt for years to come.

This team up came about through the combined efforts of Curt and Chris of JLU 2001 and Marvel 2000. Now the Tookie going for this award was more then expected, since when you put the big teams of the two major companies together, you can all but guarantee a hit of huge proportions.

That's right. Chris and Curt have earned their place in the halls of Fanfic Fame long before this crossover, but this stunning piece of work is certainly a nice addition to the resume.

The line ups were good and the storyline warranted such a gathering of great and mighty characters.  With great writing, this team-up stepped into the epic category of fiction with grand event and just a large consequences!

Without anymore talking on our part, let's all give a big hand to the winners of this year's Best-Team Up Award!!!!

The Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame

So we're down to the last of this year's awards, continuing the category we started two years ago. So now, joining Russ Anderson, David Wheatley, and Dino Pollard in the M2K Hall of Fame is....

Cory Wiegel

The Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame. One of the top three ideas I, David Wheatley, had for M2K in my time. Russ Anderson was the first, then me, then Dino Pollard and taking his place with the three of us is your current Editor in Chief – Cory Wiegel. We all know Cory from his work on Spider-Man and X-Men, his infamous comments and remarks on boards and mailing lists across the fanfic world and of late he’s developed in to a responsible and dedicated EiC of M2K. He started with some rough edges, and he’s smoothed them out, with a little help, and he’s worked hard to get M2K going again. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the 2005 Inductee to the Marvel 2000 Hall of Fame – CORY WIEGEL!!!

Just like I promised last year, next year we'll be back here at the same time with the same great awards! And on the tail of the 2005 Tookies, I'd like to personally congratulate Chris Munn and Curt Fernlund for their insanely successful, inter-site crossover, Avengers/Justice League America. Not only were they able to impress the masses with their talented and imaginative take on the world's two greatest and most iconic super-hero teams, but they were also able to impress the voters! Chris and Curt are the big winners tonight, but in 2005 we were all the big winners by having them grace us with their work!

That's not all, though. I also want to give a special shout-out to Jeff Melton and Jason Eberly, both of which were just so damn close at taking home many of tonight's awards! The two of them have always been Marvel 2000's unsung talent and in 2005 they were able to really shine and garner the admiration and respect of our readers and voters! Congrats goes out to the both of you, too, and I see big things in store for you both in 2006!

We at M2K hope that everyone enjoyed the Tookies this year and as always we hope that you'll be around for next year's! Take care all!

2006
(THE SEVENTH ANNUAL TOOKIES)

HERE YE! HERE Y -- *GUNSHOT!*

Okay, after five years I think that's enough of that. Gather around all ye faithful fanfic readers for it's time for Marvel 2000's Seventh Annual Millennial Awards!!!

Seven years. Jesus Hannibal Christ, that is a LONG time for a fan fiction site to be kickin' ass and takin' names, let alone for that site's writers and readers to be holding an annual awards ceremony to celebrate the best of the best! I have to say that 2007 has been one hell of a year for the site in terms of quality and consistent output by some of the biggest and best writers in fan fiction, and after a hard year of hard work it's time for a night of hard partying. I've got my six-pack, where's yours?

Tonight, myself and about a dozen other writers at the site gather to bring you all the best writers, titles, characters, and moments during 2006 at Marvel 2000 as decided by all of you - the site's fans and writers - in the last month or so of voting. Trust me when I say that it was one exciting and intense race, but in the end it truly was the best the site had to offer in 2006 that came out on top, but hey... you don't need me to tell you that! Just see the results for yourself!

So, in the eternal words of Judge Mills Lane, "Let's get it on!"

Best Title

AVENGERS IMMORTAL

Runner Up: The Mighty Thor

Hey all, this is Daniel Ingram, one third of Marvel 2000's Trinity, here to announce the winner of Best Title at Marvel 2000's Seventh Annual Millennial Awards! Drum Roll, please!

... please?

... hello?

There were plenty of series to choose from this year without a doubt, especially from the Heroes branch. Heck, I'd call '06 the Heroes Branch year! But in the battle for best title,  Chris Munn's Avengers Immortal managed to come out on top! I don't remember much about when Munn first told me his plans to write the series, I just remember thinking Munn plus Avengers equals awesome. It's basic math really. A knight from the crusades was really just icing on the cake. Congrats Munn, and make this the start of a streak, eh? ;)

Best Hero

IRON MAN

Runner Up: Captain America

Dave Golightly, 1/3 EiC of M2K (and various other abbreviations), here to present you with your Best Hero of 2006. It goes without saying that '06 saw some incredible competition in this category since there were things happening from the cosmic scale to the overlooked underbelly of Marvel. We had space-soaring champions and roof-hopping vigilantes, titanic tusslers in the spotlight and avenging angels in the shadows. Marvel 2000's protagonists run the gambit from Thor to... Gambit (s'cuse the poorly thought out pun), but only one was voted the Best.

Congratulations need to be given to Chris Munn, Josh Reynolds, and Barry Reese for making '06 the Year of Iron Man. While people seem to be shaking their heads at the real Marvel's current depiction of Tony Stark, M2K's version has never been stronger (which goes to show that sometimes fanfic has a leg up on the real stuff). With a strong supporting role in Avengers West Cost and a fan favorite title of his own, Iron Man (and those who wrote him) deserves every bit of admiration thus far gained. Congrats!

Best Heroine

WOLFSBANE
(In The Name Of Science)

Runner Up: Black Widow

Let me, Brent Lambert, be the first to say that the ladies of M2K have always been ass kickers. From the take no shit Danielle Moonstar to the eerily weird Arcana the site has always had its fair share of stand out women characters. (Could plug in STORM here, but I'll refrain). Anyway, this year the honor of Best Heroine goes to a particular little lass who went through more physical and emotional trauma than arguably any male character at M2K the entire year. And she took it all like a G. So let's give a big round of applauses to none other than... ::cues drumroll::

Rahne from In the Name of Science!

Congrats to Ingram on the win as it is much deserved. Due to our many long winded conversations I know the affection that Ingram has for Mr. Sinclair and he's probably giggly silly right now knowing he's snag a Tookie for her. Good job and bravo!

Best Villain

LOKI

Runner Up: Kang The Conqueror

In Norse myth, Baldur, the most loved of all Gods, was killed by the manipulations of Loki. Thor pleaded for Baldur's resurrection, to Hel's promise - all must shed one tear and Baldur will return. Every man, woman and child from Asgard to Midgard and to Hel all sobbed for the death of their beloved idol. Yet Loki only smiled, ensuring the extinction of purity.

What more evil could you want?

As a deep lover of villains, I - Bowie Sessions - find that there are a few important traits. A villain, to me, is loosely defined as an "antagonist". Someone who provides known, or less obvious, opposition to one or more titled characters. For Loki, were he to have his own title, Thor would clearly be his antagonist - a man he is cursed to bow to by their father, a man who halts his every attempt for power or respect. A man who finds all he loves claimed by his foolish gnat of an overly muscled buffoon of a brother.

Few titles are as brave as Jeff's to proudly display the true criminal so proudly. As more than just a reoccurring threat - but as a desperate ally and steady cast.

Sadly, I can only go back as far as issue 16 - the January edition.

From Loki's disdain for Galactus and his 'incompetent server, Radd... I loved his presence in the Thor series' new direction, the Space Opera against the remaining threat of the G-Man. In a compliment of similarly Space Operatic proportions, Jeff Melton brought Loki in to the Constant Frustration level that befits Whedon (a remark high in my book!).

To say that Loki was Best Villain is the same as to say Fandral won best philanderer and Thor best straight man. The characterizations in this book were not only accurate and contrasting, but also riveting. I could never wait to see what was said next. The book, though, focused strongly on the inner workings of Loki - letting you see the Master of Lies weave his fabulous defenses, and then we peak past them by the mere magic of italics. I particularly adored Loki's use as the (Whedoning further) Spike to Thor's Leading Man. Undermining their every hope of success with callous disdain despite his ultimately given assistance. After all, HIS priorities were in order, and these tasks would too be used to vex his wicked half-brother.

Congratulations, Jeff. You've got the Best Villain there is, this year. But I can't wait for 2007 - when I know we'll really get to see all his carefully withheld wickedness bear fruit.

Best Supporting Character

JOCASTA

Runner Up: Firelord

This is Alex Hayden coming to you from the 2006 Annual Tookie Awards. I'm here today ladies and gentlemen, to bring you the winner in the category for Best Supporting Character. Drum roll please, as I announce our winner for the '06 Tookie Award for Best Supporting Character is none other then the hotty with the metal body.... Jocasta, written by Barry Reese! Now I know she kind of scared everyone there for a moment when she went a little psycho with the fatale attraction on Tony, but the ol' girl has worked through her emotions and has become M2Ks Best Supporting Character for 2006. Give her a hand folks.

And now we go to Firelord, the second place winner for Best Supporting Character, for his thoughts on Jocasta winning this award. Pyreus....

Firelord’s eyes start to glow with anger, his temper no longer under control, as he can feel the anger explode from within him. He flies forward towards Barry Reese, grabbing him by the mid-section and tackling him to the ground. Barry absorbs the impact of the fall to the ground, his body starting to ache and bleed at the points where his arms meet his chest.

Barry starts to get to his feet, but Firelord is upon him, raining blow after blow to Barry’s face, even as blood continues to fly from Barry — from his face, his neck, and his chest. “If I am to lose Best Supporting Character,” Firelord exclaims defiantly, “it will not be at the hands of a robot who does not even know who she is!”

Err... hunh. Damn. Um, congrats, Jocasta!

Best Original Character

TARANTULA III

Runner Up: Diode

Hey-oh fellow M2K reader/staff peeps, it's Brad Horton, your friendly neighborhood Cheesehead, here to present this year's Tookie for Best Original Character. Without further ado, it is time to award once again DIODE with the four-time Best Original Char--

....

What's that...? Oh. Diode didn't win? Um...who did? I mean...clearly no one else even compar--

Tarantula?

How is that original? There were two dudes before this one!

Oh, from David Golightly's awesome "breakout" (NPI!) series The Vault? Well, then...okay. A worthy successor to the fart jokes and awkward bisexual content that Diode had. Or something. Perverts. Congrats to David!

Best Team

AVENGERS

Runner Up: Avengers West Coast

Greeting all, Tony Thornley here to present the award for best team. The Marvel Universe has always had a rich history of team-based heroes. While the strength of DC characters lies in solo appearances, Marvel's strength lies in their teams.  One could argue which is best, the FF, X-Men or even Defenders, but hands down, one team goes beyond them all- the mighty Avengers. While Marvel 2000 has a rich Avengers line, Brent Lambert has gone above and beyond in creating a
fantastic team in his current run on the core Avengers title, mixing A-listers like Cap and She-Hulk, with new characters like Binary and Quoi and second- and third-stringers like Machine Man and Andromeda.

Congrats Brent on winning this year's Best Team!

Best Imprint

HEROES

Runner Up: Knights

Tonight, I’ve been hired (for a rather meager salary, I - Jeff Melton - assure you) to announce the winner of the imprint for this year’s Tookie Awards. This has been a very active, and productive year for all of the branches, with a resurgence in the Knights branch, especially, with the introduction of the Vault and the return of old stalwarts, such as Punisher.

The nominees for the Favorite Imprint award are: Heroes, Knights, X-Men, and Alternate. And the winner is… Heroes! This is the third year in a row that the Heroes Branch has come out ahead for this award, after dominance from other branches in previous years.

While the other branches have been through a resurgence this year, the heroes branch has remained strong, and had some very welcome additions to the ranks of the stalwart titles, such as Avengers (by Brent Lambert), Avengers West Coast (by Josh Reynolds), Alpha Flight (by Gregg Epstein), Steve Crosby’s Captain America, and Thor (written by me). The Heroes branch was really bolstered this year by the addition of Barry Reese, taking over the reins in Iron Man, and the interesting Avengers Immortal by Chris Munn.

So, for the third straight year, congratulations go out to the writers of the Heroes Branch, which wins the 2006 Tookie Award for Best Imprint!

Best Writer

JEFF MELTON

Runner Up: Barry Reese

This is Chris Munn, stepping in to award this year's Best Writer, the esteemed Mr. Jeff Melton. Jeff and I have disagreed on many a subject in the past (such as the importance of Marv Wolfman's work in comics), but one thing that everyone MUST agree on is how good Jeff is at writing, particularly in the case of THOR here at Marvel 2000. In specific, Jeff writes in a style reminiscent of the by-gone Silver Age of Marvel, bring a sense of bombast and spectacle to Asgard that's been missing from the character for, well, quite a long time. I've been a big supporter of Jeff's THOR for a good amount of time now, and I think it's fantastic that the rest of the reading community has finally agreed with me.  Congratulations, Jeff... you're M2K's current Best Writer.

Best Fight

THOR, GOD OF THUNDER

vs.

EGO, THE LIVING PLANET

Runner Up (Tie): Gambit vs. The Grey King
and War Machine vs. The Super-Adaptoid

The first comic I - Josh Reynolds - ever owned was Thor # 362. That's a solid gold FACT Jack for those of you keeping score. Walt Simonson-era Thor. You know what I'm talking about...big sound-effects, bigger bad guys (c'mon kiddos-Kurse, Surtur, the friggin' World Serpent! Tell me that's not epic!) and the biggest storylines. And this issue was the culmination of one of the biggest-Thor rides into Hel to save the souls of...well, I don't really recall but who the hell cares because it had Skurge the Executioner fighting off the hordes of Hel in a knock-down, drag-out last man standing slugfest of Asgardian proportions!

Epic really. That's what a good Thor story should be.

And that's what Jeff Melton's depiction of Thor going up against Ego was, no two ways about it. It's Thor (and Loki and the silver Surfer and Firelord but who cares, because hey! Thor!) versus a goddamned PLANET! And not just any planet...EGO.

Ego fought Galactus, bitches. I know. I was there.

Hell, Thor fought Galactus too for that matter. I wasn't there that time. I had a date. We wound up in Arkansas with a cannibal midget and dog-sized wasp but that's what we're talking about today.
