Curano in:

"CURANO'S TALE"
by Brent Lambert

A member of the latest incarnation of the Frightful Four, Curano claims to be a warrior from deepest Africa. We're about to find out there's much more to her than even that.
Curano

This is the beginning and middle of a story. No one knows the ending... yet. This is the tale of a girl who has a promise to fulfill, but she seems to have forgotten that promise. This story shows how this girl was tainted and made a servant of darkness. This girl's adventure all begins in the realm of Gydro.

Gydro

The realm of Gydro was one filled with creatures of magic and the gods of Gydro, the Maxells, ruled over all of them. The Maxell's palace was atop the mountain called Gydro Peak.

There were around 120 gods all living in Gydro Peak. Each god had their own palace. No one knows how all 120 palaces could fit on that peak, but they did. The largest palace, though, was the one where the gods held their many meetings. In their meetings they frequently discussed the humans and other creatures that worshipped them.

The humans that worshipped them were not of our world, Earth 616.* No, these humans were from the dimension designated as Earth 899. Of course the Maxells didn't know that. They knew there were other dimensions, but they never had names for them.

(* The Marvel Universe Earth is known as both Earth Prime and Earth 616 - Editorial Russ)

The main council of the gods consisted of six gods and six goddesses. The most important of all of them was the king of the gods, Tos-Ka. He wore a long flowing blue cloak and had a beard of gold. His wife and sister was Peptun. She was the goddess of the oceans, marriage and weather. Her skin was the color of bronze and she had wings that were the color of silver. She wore a dress of pure silver.

Ox was one of Tos-Ka's three brothers. Ox was the god of nature, medicine, night, day, and war. Ox was a fair-skinned, large brute and he wore the armor of a medieval knight. His armor was black and out of it protruded large yellow spikes that blood and light flowed out of whenever Ox permitted it.

Disag was another of Tos-Ka's brothers. Disag was the god of death, boundaries, magic, fear, panic, terror, and dread. Disag had spiky black hair, a long spiky black beard, black lips and black eyes. He stood about 12 feet and wore a bat skin cloak.

Emote was the last of Tos-Ka's brothers. He was the god of emotions, life, music, art, virtue, and pleasure. He was the youngest of the brothers. He looked like a rosy-cheeked 19 year-old. He wore a wreath around his head, golden sandals, a magic branch and a golden little Speedo. He was like the romancer amongst the gods.

Halevy was the cousin and wife of Ox. She had short blue hair, silver eyes, pale skin and a lean body. She wore something that was similar to the classic Fantastic Four uniform except there was no four where the circle would be. Also the gloves were not there, the boots went up to the thighs and her whole suit glistened with divine light. Halevy was the goddess of famine, desire, greed, hunger, and architecture.

Glinka was the sister of Halevy and bride of Disag. She was the goddess of pestilence, hope, the cosmos, history, and the humanities. Glinka never really had a shape. In her true form she was basically a glob of light. She had been cursed at birth by Tos-Ka because it had been prophesied if she wasn't that she would lead an uprising against him.

Adige was the god of fire. He was the father of Glinka and Halevy. He looked very much like a sly young man who always had a devilish look on his face. His hair was made of fire as was his sweater. His pants were a gift from Tos-Ka. The pants were made from the hide of a dragon. Certain ointments were put on the leather to make it impervious to any type of weapon. His arm was replaced with that of a dragon's because it had been bitten off by the wolf pet of Ox. He subsequently killed the pet wolf.

Cydonia was the wife of Adige. She presided over the realms of wind, childbirth, wealth, and poverty. She had hair so long that it could wrap around the perimeter of her palace three times. Her pink hair is so long because each strand represents a child that was born and as they grow older the strand grows longer. To keep the gods from stumbling over her hair she wraps it up into many long braids.

Gyre, Erye, and Hyre were the triplet daughters of Tos-Ka and Peptun. They presided over light, darkness, infinity, eternity, and confidence. They all wore the same sleek and cerulean dress. They all had black hair, but each one had different color eyes. Gyre had cerise eyes, Erye had magenta eyes, and Hyre had raspberry eyes.

Synder and Dynder were the twin boys of Halevy and Ox. They presided over animal life, joy, bliss, relaxation, meditation, and violence. They both had skin the color of chestnut and hair that was ebony. Their eyes were white like snow. They both could never speak because if they did flame would shoot uncontrollably from their mouths.

Now it came to pass that Tos-Ka had an affair with a mortal woman and a child was born and she was called Norali. Norali had the complexion of her mother, a pecan color. She in time grew to be a beautiful and confident young woman. It happened one night that while she was sleeping she was swept away by Ox and brought to Gydro Peak in front of the Council of Gods.

Norali was in awe of the gods she had heard of and worshipped since she was a little girl. She went immediately on her knees and asked, "To what is it I owe this great honor?"

"You owe us nothing my daughter, but we only wish to ask of your help," Tos-Ka said.

"Anything father. I would gladly give my life for the gods," Norali said.

"Then let me explain to you what you must do. The god of prophecy, Sogot, told us that one day we would fall against our enemies if you did not save us," Tos-Ka said.

"Who are your enemies?" Norali asked, astonished at the fact that the gods could have enemies.

"My grandfather, father and their allies are my enemies. They have always wanted to destroy our empire, but have always failed. Now, though, they will succeed if you do not aid us," Tos-Ka said.

"How can I make a difference?" Norali asked.

"From another dimension a sorceress named Medea will come and aid my enemies. She will give them the skill and power to launch an assault against us. You must go to the dimension from which Medea comes and find the heroes called the Fantastic Four if we are to win this war," Tos-Ka explained.

"I will gladly do this, but I am left to wonder why can't one of the gods go and do this?" Norali asked.

"We gods cannot leave our positions or the world will fall into turmoil, and besides none of us are able to go through the portal. That is also one of the prophecies of Sogot," Tos-Ka explained.

"Now I understand. I wish to embark on this mission as soon as possible," Norali said getting off of her knees and standing before the gods.

Tos-Ka smiled and clapped his hands and within an instant Norali and Tos-Ka were teleported to a region of Gydro. "This is where the portal is at. It started to appear a week ago. All you have to do is step in and you will be off, but before you go I have a gift to give you. Since we do not know how long it will take for the Fantastic Four and Medea to appear I must give you immortality. Promise me you will be strong in this other world and accomplish our mission," Tos-Ka said affectionately to his daughter.

"I promise to you father that I will stay strong and accomplish our mission," Norali said kissing her father and running into the portal afraid to look back.

Chandilar (Earth Date 1916)

"Another human. HA! This is the third one I caught this week. They just seem to be coming out of the woodwork," Chikari said as he picked up Norali with one huge hand.

"Who are you?!" Norali screamed at Chikari. Chikari smiled and began to walk with her in hand.

"I am your worst nightmare," Chikari said looking down at Norali. He quickly turned away and continued to walk.

Chikari was a heavily built Shi'ar. The fact that he could hold a human in one hand was evidence to that. Norali felt as if she was going to burst in those hands. It was probably because of the dark blue metal alloy armor that Chikari was wearing from the neck down.

"We are here! Welcome home my sweet," Chikari said opening up the doors with the word M'Krann. Norali put that to memory because she knew she might need it later.

Chikari walked with Norali down a few corridors lined with paintings until he reached a chamber. He lifted Norali into the air and forcefully threw her into the room. Norali hit the ground hard and to make it worse she landed flat on her butt.

"So it seems Chikari has another prisoner," a man in the shadows said.

"Who are you and how many people does he have exactly?" Norali asked frightened, but trying to keep strength because of her promise to her father.

"My name is Ryan Summers and there are about 12 of us in here," Ryan said as all 12 kidnapped people came out of the shadows.

They are all introduced themselves. Their names were; Henry Munroe, Derrick Richards, William Storm, Jacob Frost, Deacon Shaw, Lila Grimm, Max Stark, Kurt Von Doom, Sarah Darkholme, Larry Nelson, and Hogan Creel.

"So how long have all of you guys been in here?" Norali asked.

"Most of us have been in here for at least two years," Henry said.

"What does he want with us?" Norali asked.

"None of us are exactly sure, but he keeps talking about being the spearhead of some new army," Lila said.

"Have any of you guys ever tried to attempt an escape?" Norali asked, eager to know.

"One of us did. His name was Luke Xavier and what Chikari did to him is undescribable. Let me just tell you this, what he did was pure evil," Max said.

Norali cringed with fear. "Whoever knew Earth would be this harsh?" Norali asked herself. At that point everyone looked at her in astonishment and nodded, believing her to have gone insane.

"Hon, I hate to break it to you, but this ain't Earth," Sarah said frowning.

"What do you mean? I thought the portal would take me to Earth?" Norali said.

"What portal?" Ryan asked.

Three Years Later

Norali and the rest became very different people in three years time. Chikari used his machinery to change them all into his new troops to fight against the Emperor. Norali became Curano, Ryan became Moltarblast, Sarah become Phermona, Henry became Icicle, Derrick became Flame, William became Aqua, Jacob became Magi, Deacon became Pestilence, Lila became Battle, Kurt became Desire, Larry became Shazam and Hogan became Writer.

Chikari had transformed all of them into tainted people without any morals. He had replaced much of their psyches with new, evil memories and gave them eternal youth so they could forever serve his needs.

Chikari and his "Hordes" as they would later be called in Shi'ar history attacked numerous Shi'ar outposts and civilian areas. They were even beginning to hurt the empire until a Shiar hero named Divine came onto the scene.

Divine was larger than your average Shi'ar and instead of the normal Shi'ar hairdo he had a mohawk. His skin was purple and his hair blue. He had been trying to get into the Shi'ar military, but had been thrown out for being a genetic freak. Divine would later find out along with his strange appearance he had great strength, an amazing healing factor, enhanced senses, strong telekinesis and some minor telepathy.

Chikari and his "Hordes" encountered Divine for the first and last time at a Shi'ar outpost called Ande'r Son. They had managed to destroy the outpost and stole some valuables from within, but just as they were about to high tail it out of there, Divine showed up.

"Where do you criminals think you are going?" Divine said trying to sound heroic.

"Anywhere we want!" Desire exclaimed.

"Let us just see about that," Divine said with a smile. Instantly Desire, Aqua, Battle, and Writer had been lifted into the air by Divine's telekinesis. Just as soon Curano could hear the sound of bone breaking and flesh tearing as Divine ripped out their arms and legs.

It was a horrible sight to see and it enraged Shazam. Shazam turned his body into electricity and rammed at Divine. Before he could even reach Divine's body he was stopped in mid-air by Divine's telekinesis. Divine then punched off the head of Shazam with ease. Some of the blood spilled onto Phermona.

Flame, Wizard and Icicle then began to pour the power of the elements onto Divine. Divine held their blasts back with a telekinetic shield. He then used his telekinesis to bust a few of the arteries in all three brains'. They dropped dead on the spot.

"NOOO!! I refuse to see you destroy anymore of my students! Run all of you! Run away now! I will handle this brute," Chikari said balling his fists up.

"You heard the man!" Curano said.

The last thing Curano, Phermona, and Moltarblast remember seeing when they left that planet was Chikari and Divine killing each other. They both gave their hardest punches and they seemingly had both killed the other.

The Present

"Phermona, I have been having these weird dreams as of late," Curano said.

"What kinds of dreams?" Phermona asked.

"Dreams about some fairy tale land. It is all too weird. I've probably just been eating too much," Curano said.

Wizard then walked in a smile on his face. "Guys I think we have hit the jackpot. It all involves some sorceress named Medea. She is emitting this huge power source that when harnessed could supply the Earth with an endless supply of energy. Imagine what we could do with that in our posession," Wizard explained gleefully.

"Medea... I swear I have heard that name before. If only I could remember... ARGGH!!!" Curano screamed, falling to her knees. Her head was in agony. Phermona and Moltarblast fell onto the floor with her screaming and holding their heads.

"I... I remember! Ryan... Sarah can it be?" Curano asked shocked with all the memories of old flooding into her brain. That was what all the strange dreams were about. It was her mind's way of fighting against Chikari's mind control.

"Yes, it's me Norali. I can't believe it's me after all this time," Phermona said.

"Tell me about it. I used to be an idiot," Ryan said.

"Oh, what is going on here?" a baffled Wizard asked.

"Long story and I don't have time to explain it. Phermona and Moltarblast let's leave this place," Curano said. Phermona and Moltarblast nodded in agreement and took off with Curano.

All a bewildered Wizard could do was look on as his Frightful Four ran out of the door. It then didn't matter to him because he could just form a new Frightful Four and still get Medea's energy for his own purposes.
