| K'un Lun, mystical realm of the way of the Iron Fist. This is the legendary homeworld of a race of people hidden in the Himalayas where they have been trained to turn their fists into a thing of iron. The streets are full of people, commoners and just the general public who go to the markets to buy their daily food and things to put in their homes. But one man walks the streets who is not content with his life, who is not a commoner. He is infamous. He is the son of the evildoer Chiantang. His father was a murderer and super villain to boot. He could transform himself into a purple demon. He fought Danny Rand, the one of the few K'un Lunians who escaped the mystical land. But he was not born in the realm. He was from America. But he was trained here. "He will pay for his transactions," the son of Chiantang said softly. "My father will be avenged." Ahead in the hills was the place where he seeked him. Not Iron Fist but the teacher and ruler of this land. The August Personage in Jade. He was masked, so no one knew his true face. It took him the better part of the day to walk up the cliff-face. When he arrived, he saw there were two guards at the entrance to the castle. No problem. He released some gas pellets he got from a market peddler and soon the two guards fell to the ground, unconscious. This was easier than he thought. Now the hard part. It took him half his strength to open the door. Damn door made a lot of noise but it seemed that no one inside noticed. They were too much in meditation to know the difference. It didn't matter. He was on a mission. He walked down the long corridor and saw the object of his search on a throne, silent, also in meditation. The son of Chiantang had one more gas pellet and he used it on the August Personage in Jade. The ruler opened his eyes for a second, then closed them as sleep overcame him. His mission was complete. Now to get out of here. Before he died, his father had given to him a device on how to get to the mortal realm. The son of Chiantang used it then and the two of them vanished into thin air. Soon, Iron Fist will pay. With his life. Danny Rand got the call late in the evening. It was the son of Chiantang telling him that he had kidnapped the August Personage in Jade and the only way for Fist to rescue him and return him to K'un Lun was to fight his long enemy in combat. At midnight, Central Park was empty except for some security guards and police officers. Fist was to meet Chiantang in the Shakespearean Gardens. He waited there for a couple of minutes until his enemy arrived. "Where is the August Personage in Jade??" Fist demanded. "He is elsewhere. Now we fight." "This makes no sense. I fought your father not you. What do you really want with me?" "You and your friends, the people at Heroes for Hire, killed my father. Call it simple revenge but I must prove my mettle by fighting you." "That was years ago. What took you so long to get this plan together?" "Talk is cheap. Now we fight." Chiantang bowed and out of honor, Iron Fist bowed too. Clad in his stylized gi, the enemy launched into battle, doing a roundhouse kick at Fist's side. Fist was lost in thought so much that he couldn't evade or block the blow. Fist fell against one of the rocks. Iron Fist knew what he had to do. He clenched his fist and transformed it into a thing of iron. He hurled the iron fist at Chiantang's jaw. Chiantang caught the punch and squeezed it. "That's impossible. No one can do that," Fist said, stunned at the display. "Then, call me Mr. Nobody, gaijin," Chiantang responded, releasing the fist and returning it to Rand. Fist's hand felt all numb and sore. "There is one talent I inherited from my father. That of transmogrification." In that selfsame moment, Chiantang's clothes and gi rippled as it was shredded from his naked body. His skin turned a purplish hue and he grew several feet taller than his normal height. He was forever transformed into a dragon. Chiantang blew his dragon breath at the grass surrounding Iron Fist, scorching it. Iron Fist knew he needed help in fighting Chiantang and they were at least miles away. He rabbitted. All the way back to the offices of Heroes for Hire he heard Chiantang's incessant laughing. And it haunted him all the way home. "Fist, you sure he's in there?" The man speaking is Luke Cage. The man he is referring to is Iron Fist, his partner in Heroes for Hire and his best friend. Beside them are Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. Misty had her gun and bionic arm to protect her, while Colleen had her samauri sword unsheathed so that the first thing the enemy will see is her blade. "Yes, Lucas. He's in there. I can sense it with K'un Lunian mysticism. We go in now. I will rescue the August Personage in Jade while the rest of you try to defeat Chiantang. And prevent him from changing into his dragon self." Iron Fist paused, pointing at the wooden door. "If you will do the honors, Lucas?" "Christmas, Fist. Must I do everything?" Cage laughed underneath his breath as he flexed his muscles and with diamond hard hands smashed open the door that led to the abandoned warehouse. The first thing that Iron Fist saw was the August Personage in Jade tied up to the wall and Chiantang turning toward the heroes. "So, you were smart enough to bring help this time, Rand," Chiantang said. "But it will avail you naught. For I am supreme." "You talk too much, Chiantang," Cage said, as he gave him his hardest punch across the jaw. The enemy of K'un Lun fell against the wooden crates and the crates crashed on top of him. "Now, before he can recover," Fist said. "Let's do our business." Colleen Wing used her sword to cut the Personage's bonds. She caught him as he fell into her arms. "Thank you, mortal. It has been awhile," the August Personage responded. There was a rumbling. The crates that covered Chiantang flew apart and the purple dragon stood several feet tall. Misty Knight used her revolver against the dragon that was Chiantang. She didn't want to kill him because that was not her way. The bullet just grazed his skull, forcing him to transform back into his human self. Chiantang was unconscious. The fight was over. "Now what?" Luke Cage asked. The August Personage in Jade gestured his fingertips and a portal opened to K'un Lun. "Now I put Chiantang back in his prison. As I knew this little farce would end." "You mean you could have freed yourself any time. Why put us through all this trouble, master?" Iron Fist said. "This was a test, wasn't it, master?" "Yes, a test of wills. You had to be tested, Daniel Rand, Chiantang had to be tested, and even the Heroes for Hire had to be tested. Even I had to be tested." The winds of the Himalayas carried Chiantang away and the August Personage in Jade walked through the portal. When the two figures couldn't be seen no more, the portal closed. Luke smirked. "I don't know why you hang out with those mystical weirdos. They just don't make any sense." "You're too primitive to understand the way," Colleen Wing said. Luke was now on the defensive. "Me primitive? You're the only chopping people up with your sword, saying it's all honor. To me, that's primitive." "At least I have a code. What do you have?" Misty Knight used her bionic arm to separate the two before a fight broke out. She was strong enough to take them both on. When she saw that it was hopeless, she moved over to Iron Fist. "Danny, are you okay? You look worried," Misty offered a comforting bionic shoulder to lean on. "Let me help you." "Misty, I'm torn. One part of me says that he is right. I am being tested, that this is all part of my training. But my training stopped years ago when I first became Iron Fist. The other part of me says that Luke is correct. That it makes no sense. I don't know where my loyalties lie." "We were once togther, as lovers, Danny. Where does your heart lie? On this mortal coil, or in K'un Lun? And are we part of your world?" "Of course you are," Danny responded. "All of you. I would never desert you for immortality. No matter what tests the August Personage in Jade throws at me. I was born on Earth and this is my home." Luke and Colleen, now done fighting verbally, joined the two introspective heroes. "Now, can we please go home?" Luke said in jest. "Sure, Lucas. Home sounds nice." With that, they all walked to Danny's car that was parked outside, enjoying the cool night breeze and looking forward to another day. |
