Issue #2

"MISTAKES OF THE PAST"
Part 2

by Frank Bigoski

William Bourne's life has never been what you would call "Great." His parents died in a mysterious boating accident years ago and he was raised by his God Father. Now with his god father taken from him by murder, William swears revenge, but against who? That only time may tell. WIth the mutant powers of super strength do to increased molecular denstiy, and energy manipulation on the molecular and subatomic levels, William is a power to be watched, thus gaining the file code name as "Hurricane of Potential" among the Soldier-X command.
Hurricane of Potential

Her name is Maria Villanueva, she is a mutant Telepath and Telekinetic
who's past is filled with horrible events. As the first recruit of Soldier-X
she hopes to learn to control her powers on the long road ahead, idolizing
Maddy. Calling herself Enigma, she idolizes the X-Men, especially Cyclops,
the man who saved her from a life of slavery only weeks ago.
Enigma

Kelly LeStraude is a rich girl of the worst kind, snobby, related to
royalty, and well aware of her good looks. However as a member of Soldier-X
she uses the mutant power to transform in to Uru like organic Rock to
fight the good fight in the name of Mutant Rights. Called Galatea, do
to the name of the living statue of Greek Myth, she hopes to learn to
better control her super strength when in her transformed state.
Galatea

Vector, who hides his true name Erin O'Hare from his team mates, is
the natural leader of the group. The eldest, and most experienced in
the use of his powers, he has an electromagnetic sixth sense that allows
him to be the ultimate tracker. Formerly an agent of Black Air, he retired
after seeing his fiancee die before his eyes.
Vector

Whisper is the team's wild card. Joining do to the simple fact that
he didn't want to be imprisoned by the NSA, he uses his Gravity manipulating
powers as a member of the Human-Mutant Relations Department's Soldier-X
strike force. One of the power players in the team, his power might
be beyond ever what he is aware of.
Whisper

The team's super speedster is a native of Egypt, where he has been
in the super heroing game since the young age of 13. Now only 4 years
later he has joined the operation known as Soldier-X to escape his nation's
borders and start out on his own. However what are the dark secrets
          that Kevin Malik hides?
Velocity

Madelyne Pryor, also once called Black Bishop of the Hellfire Club,
and often called Maddy, is the head of the Soldier X operation. Known
to her people as Captain Pryor, she has taken command of the organization
on personal request of Director-H, though for what reasons, it is not
known. Having assumed her position with confidence, Madelyne hopes to
redeem herself for past crimes as an enemy to the X-Men, now subscribing
to the same dream as her enemies.
Madelyne Pryor

A new face(or is he?) in the world of mutant-human relations, this
homo-sapien is the head of the National Security Agency's HMRD branch.
As Maddy's direct superior he keeps a watchful eye on the former villainess
with his four agents, Tenku, Harris, Papovich, and Manning. However
he too has dark secrets hidden in his past.

New Orleans: Home of William Bourne:

William Bourne:

Its funny, when I was a kid, I would have never imagined life turning out like this. That was until eight years ago, when I had my parents robbed from me. We were traveling on my father's boat through the Hong Kong Harbor, when the boat's engine exploded. My mutant powers kicked in, channeling heat from the explosion in to fuel for a massive energy blasts that emanated from my legs rocketing me to the shore. When I awoke, the police believed I had been sent afloat from what was now being called the scene of my parent's accident. Only I remember their screams, and only I know the name my father spat as he came running from the engine room to grab my mother and I forcing us on to the deck. He had said something to my mother, and then repeated the name again. "Sebastian."

I heard the foot steps approaching the apartment from down the flight of stairs. The large loft I lived in with my god father was a mess, the walls were splattered with his blood, and the furniture was torn apart from some sort of search. Is was standing with tears streaming from my eyes as I watched the door, ready and waiting for whatever came from the other side.

The walls around me were as I mentioned covered in streamers of blood, but one wall in particular had taken hold of my notice when I found my god father's body. Whoever did this to the last family I had left in the world had actually left their calling card in the form of blood writing. "Soldier-X," I repeated to myself as my ice blue ocular focused on the door.

I heard the first knock and moved toward the oaken panel to turn the handle open. Thinking in my mind that I would only have one chance of surviving this if my God Father's killers had come back. I focused what mental prowess I possessed on generating a field of invisible ionic energy around my body to protect myself from any possible harm. Though when I opened the door what met me was not at all what I had expected, but a beautiful woman with long red hair, and comforting green eyes.

When I rose my eyebrow in her direction I felt something in my mind, a sort of soothing voice telling me to be still. I couldn't do so though, after just finding my god father's dead body, all that I could think about was vengeance. Though this woman seemed to be of no threat something was not right with the situation, and as I looked toward her I realized something. The feelings she was permeating were telepathic in origin, and regardless of how strong my will as a trained martial artist was, I was breaking. When I looked past her shoulder down the stair way I saw others as well, and they seemed much more threatening.

Four men armed with guns and a group of people who were each dressed in kevlar and leather jumpsuits with X insignias on their shoulders, and in some case chests. The four men with the black sunglasses and swat team uniforms also had X symbols on their uniforms though they were not as pronounced, and they were all the same blood red color. Blood red... X... "Soldier-X..." I repeated, as I rose both of my hands toward the woman in front of me.

What happened next I'm not quite sure, as I was sent flying back through a wall by the sudden unsteadying of my body, but it seemed that my fists each launched huge pyres of energy toward the woman. As I went flying and my body hit the wall with break neck force, it shattered behind me, and I did not make out what happened to the telepath I had assaulted.

As you've probably assumed by now I'm a mutant. To be particular I'm an energy manipulator, though I'm not quite sure on what level I am capable of using these gifts they have in the past allowed me flight, and to create blasts or fields of energy. Though I had never been able to trigger them like this before, this was definitely new. As I stood myself back up and brushed myself off, my other mutation became readily evident to the men in the X adorned uniforms who were storming my home.

As I had jumped to conclusions about their identities and fired first rather then ask questions, I stood back in a defensive stance, one leg leading forward with my arms braced for impact. My eyes traveled over each of the people around me individually as I thought of my bloodied god father's body in the corner of the room. These people had, if my assumptions were correct, murdered him, "Wufei..." and that was all I needed to know.

That same time, the same place:

Velocity:

I began to channel my powers as I watched this guy, muttering a few words to myself under my breath. I wasn't one of these people really, just a spy here to keep an eye on their growth... and now I was being put in harm's way. My body's molecules began to slow their rotation to become a denser form of matter as I approached the blonde we were supposed to be recruiting.

As I did so the magnificent flash of energy released from either of my fellow mutant's palms caused me to leap back a few months ago in memory. I had been running in my family's old village, where the people had all been killed by a plague only a couple years ago when I had seen a similar feet of power. From the skies came seven bolts of energy, each one forming a glass like crystal out of the sand at my feet by super heating quite literally to the crystalline point. My eyes went wide as I ceased my running.

As I looked up six mutant hunting Sentinel robots with their purple and magenta limbs came descending on me with a humming from the air. I tried to run, but something else grabbed me, a tractor beam built in to another vessel of some kind that I had not noticed had begun lifting me in to the air. I was soon floating in a glass cylinder inside this other vessel, this space ship, watched on all sides by men in black suits, with torch shaped patches upon their right breast.

Then I saw him... the massive gray skinned man with his block jaw, and red glowing eyes. This man had been a known mutant terrorist in my country as well as others for years, and he was known by many names. Though the one he seemed to have taken preference to long ago was, as I spoke it, before falling unconscious from the inhalation of sleeping gas, "The Living Monolith."

That however was then. This was now. I had to remind myself, as I saw our supposed "leader" get flung by the blonde in front of me. It was no wonder that my masters had an interest in this operation "Soldier-X" with candidates like this William Bourne. I heard the orders from Vector, who for all intents and purposes, was right. Bourne was too angry and too strong to take head on, one on one, it was time to go for him as a team. I wasn't sure why but there was something about the agent Manning that I didn't trust however, which is probably why I didn't expect William's next blow when it threw me, I was too busy watching the NSA operative.

Russia, that same time:

Tsar:

As my Hummer military issue version transport rolled in to the underground bunker that was my head quarters I smiled. I had for a long time abandoned my true name and now called myself simply "The Tsar" thought it was far from being true at this moment. As a member of the Illuminati's High Council and one of the most dangerous men in Russia I have just secured my seat in power in Russia with a recent acquisition. Suddenly however my car stopped with a jerk, and I was sent face first on to the plushly carpeted interior of the back seat, which completely mismatched its militaristic exterior.

As I stood, my tall muscular frame towering over my car as I seemed to have been teleported outside of it, five men armed with genoshan collars strapped my wrists and ankles and neck. From here they began to drag me toward a chamber off to the left, a sneer forming on my face as I looked on each of the traditionally uniformed black mandarin tuxedo wearing masked men. These men were members of the Council guard, and obviously my fellows wished to see me with out the use of my powers.

As the chamber opened I was forced to my knees, something that did not happen often to a man of my stature I'll have you know. Not only am I physically imposing at six feet and two inches in height, with a weight of over 250 pounds of pure muscle, but my mutant gift to control the very forces of nature makes me a powerful adversary. However in these Genoshan Magistrait's manacles I could do nothing but bow as I looked up to the other members of the council, each of whom wore a white robe of fine silk tied closed in front with golden frog ties.

Each wore a hood lined with similar gold which they began to push back from their faces one by one, and look down upon me with anger filled eyes. What had brought down the council's wrath upon me their most loyal servant I was not aware, but it seemed I would soon find out.

I stood there now as the guards were gestured back away from me my eyes looking upon the many men who stood before me. Two men spoke in jittering Chinese which I was hardly able to comprehend, though a few words I could understand from our previous dealings. Three others stood with them, the one at the center, had his face cloaked in black as he had always done when at our meetings appearing as the avatar of the pre-decided wishes of our former leader.

This former leader had been involved in our organization for years but had more frequently become embroiled in his own business, and an organization he held equal leadership in, the Hellfire Club. His name was Sebastian Shaw, and though none of us knew who his present avatar was we all had our assumptions. He had been the one who in great admonition mind you, placed the rank of Rex Illuminus, "King of the Light" upon my shoulders when the former died.

Now however it seemed I was to lose this title, as the largest of the five looked down on me with thinly veiled anger, his semi pale complexion and square jaw quite imposing. Even with my own powers over nature this fifth figure was a marvelous power house himself, and acted as the present true head of the council, even though he was quite mad.

"Tsar... you have taken action against the United States government's Soldier-X operation without consulting us, have you not?" said the Egyptian, following the eyes of the stark white haired man at the center of their collection.

"Yes," I said with a nod, forced now to stand there and watch as the other's eyes passed judgment upon me. If it were Sebastian standing here they would never have questioned him so, but as it were me, a man they believed to be out for his own gain at all times, they had doubts. "I only wished to stop this threat from becoming any worse by eliminating th..." but I was cut off by the words of one of the two Chinese men, speaking in English.

"Tsar, The agent you have placed with in the said organization will be removed. After our own deliberation we have decided that your acts have been for the attempted improvement of our conglomerate's power. However, they have been misguided, as we wish to form this organization's impressionable young agents in to our own weapons, we have placed a spy amongst them for just such a reason," the deeply voiced man said, the thick accent of his native Mandarin language bleeding through his English.

"I personally chose and sent a mutant being from my home country to investigate these matters, and for now on we would appreciate if you come to us for approval before your actions," said the Egyptian man again, his tall powerful figure reaching six feet in height even when he sat.

"Now go," said the man at the center of the council in his hood, as the gravity manipulator to his left stood and pointed to my shackles, causing them to tear from my limbs.

"Though be warned, if you make another mistake, they will come for you." said the standing figure, his eyes glimmering as he seemed to half smile and half grimace at the same instance. These men I knew by the names of Mandarin, Graviton, Living Monolith, and Fu Manchu. He who wore the mysterious black hood I could only refer to as "Avatar of the former king," for that is the only name by which I knew him, though I suspected at his true identity.

"I understand, oh wise men," I said, with my fists clenched as I turned on a heel and walked away. I was massive in physical stature myself, and my body had survived various events in the past that would have left most men dead. Even the feralous Wolverine couldn't take my life and when he and Elena Ivanova had escaped my men I let them leave, I could have brought down the cartel upon them, but that was simply a game.

Now things were personal, these men had just forced me to bow, and no one made me bow, that was something I had made evident to them long ago when I first joined their ranks. I was the chosen king, not this avatar who had been brought to the council by my fellows, and yet it seemed they lead me, not the other way around. They even had implanted the Egyptian boy in Soldier-X with out my knowing, and so on their chess game went.

Back in New Orleans:

Vector:

I leapt above an oncoming side kick from the kid, after reading his dossier it didn't take much to decide that his super strength was beyond what I could withstand. Bringing both of my arms down in to an axe handle blow toward his temple I balanced myself in the air by spreading both of my legs in a V shape. This worked only to piss the blonde haired power house underneath me off however, as my body sprung away from his head, and I used my superior agility to control my aerial balance, I saw that he had quickly spun around.

Both of the kid's hands were raised in my direction and a pair of massive lances of light were hurled my way, the destructive energy hit the roof of the loft behind me as I sprung from the wall. Debris was sent spraying in all directions as I barely managed to avoid a large piece of shrapnel, my lips drawn in to a sneer as I called out orders to the others.

"Hit him all at once, don't let him take us on one at a time, " I called, watching as the girl that called herself Galatea was the first to catch on. She swung a quick punch toward the kid's jaw from the left, your standard issue jab, and I already knew it was over for her. He smiled as he looked at her, and his own right arm rose to repel her punch, his left knee moving almost in unison to her midsection, a martial arts instilled combination that I had to admire. The precision timing took Galatea's air and soon the stone skinned woman was flying back ward and through a window head first, skidding down toward the streets.

Behind her I saw Human Mutant Relations Department transports and armed men in swat uniforms blocking off all three entrances to the housing district as I came to my feet. My left leg swung to William's right shin as I saw at that same moment that Velocity had leapt on him from behind, using his phasing ability to become super dense in mere moments. His arms were latched around the neck of the kid, who I surmised had jumped to conclusions regarding the blood splattered words I had seen on the wall of his apartment, and the dead body on his floor, when he saw our uniforms.

For a moment I thought I had him, but the kick was no good, he had used it to his own advantage actually, falling forward, and rolling, smashing his head in to Kevin's nose behind him. I saw blood rushing from the cocky Egyptian's nose and instantly knew that he was out of this fight as well.

I was back to my feet in a moment, and it seemed that Whisper and Enigma had finally gotten a grip on the power effects they'd been searching for to use on William.

"Game time, do it," I called out, as I leapt forward with a drop kick to the kid's spine that sent even his super dense body tumulting forward, where he was caught on an uplifted couch that Whisper had gained a gravitational hold on. Then the couch folded inward, and I could tell that it hurt when I heard William howl, the leather and iron beams that made up the mass of the couch gripping him in a vice like form.

Three months ago when I had first received the call to join this team I wouldn't have believed you for a moment if you told me that one of them could be as strong as this Bourne kid. I expected this to be your run of the mill government operation involving a few average mutants, shape changer, maybe a teleporter, maybe a speedster like Velocity, who I could see was just now coming to. Though I didn't expect anyone like Whisper, Enigma, Galatea, or this kid Bourne. The rich girl on her but outside was out cold yeah, but she'd taken a shot that would have probably killed me, straight through the wall and to the asphalt, and I was picking up her electromagnetic stimuli on my radar, so she was still kickin'. Wilkins on the other hand, this kid could dish it out... he was moving toe to toe with the Bourne character and neither had really given an inch until just now. While Enigma also seemed to know what her place was and how to use her powers at least effectively enough to keep herself standing.

"Well, Enigma, how's about you finish this," I called, and with that the couch was flung back ward in to the streets to lye next to the unconscious body of Kelly, familiarly uniformed Emergency Medical Technicians rushing the two. I looked toward the four NSA Agents who had been watching everything happen from the door as they defended the downed Captain Pryor, who had just woke up herself. Whatever happened someone would have to investigate and as I heard the mental commands of Papovich, and Pryor's own call, I leapt from the gaping hole in the side of the building.

Below in the Streets:

Director-H:

As the armored transport truck carrying myself and three other NSA operatives came to a shrieking hault I was already out of the door, leaping to a rolling stop in the field three houses away from the burning carnage. William Bourne's apartment had a massive hole blown through the side wall where a window had been, and lying in the street in her normal human form I saw the recruit Kelly LeStraude.

Running to LeStraude's side I had a Nextel to my ear in moments, brought by another agent from the perimeter line as our S.W.A.T. teams surrounded the area. I had the nearest military base on the phone and aerial medical transport on its way to the position in moments as I gestured for two agents to come watch the downed woman.

After moments I heard a message relayed to my ear by agent Tenku that caused a grimace to cross my face.

"Sir, Someone's attempted to set us up, when we got hear the kid jumped Pryor and knocked her out in a single shot, and the words Soldier-X are written on the walls in blood sir, his care taker has been killed," Tenku finished, I was cringing at the very thought of seeing my operation's name sprawled across the rooms of the boy's home in blood. I had just spoken to his god father one week before myself about recruiting him for the operation, as his uncle had been Interpol I believed it was safe to reveal a bit of our purpose to him before bringing the child on board.

"I'll tell him next week and see what he thinks," he had said, wanting a bit of time to think about it himself. Thus, giving the man a bit of extra time I respected his opinion and understanding of the boy's psyche and moved on but now this disaster had happened.

The boy was dead, my own research back in Washington had discovered a double agent was leaking information about the organization to the Illuminati, and at the moment I had no idea who. I stood in my black kevlar mesh S.W.A.T. Uniform and watched the chaos that ensued, eyes open to the image of another body that came flying from the window, encircled by a bent couch?

"Tenku, what is the situation?" I called, as I gestured for agents to run forward and investigate, each carrying a power dampener device to keep the mutant children from lashing out on reflex. The wrist mounted dampeners did no good however as before they got within effective range, the young man who had just been thrown from the window was followed by another figure, who's musculature allowed him enhanced agility. Vector landed at the feet of the one enwrapped in the couch, who I could only assume was Bourne, as a massive explosion flung all four agents back.

Sure enough William Bourne was to his feet and had his foot implanted against O'Hare's chest only moment's later. As I watched Vector go flying in one direction I saw Enigma, followed by Whisper, and Captain Pryor follow suit. Madelyne looked to me with her eyes glowing an eerie crimson and I instantly knew she had found something wrong. She downed herself early and came running my way as I saw Manning and Papovich firing their pistols at the angered Bourne.

"What in God's blue hell is going on here?" I said, looking back and forth, not able to discern the reason for such a situation, other then the manipulation of the aforementioned traitor amidst my own organization.

"As Tenku explained sir, someone has set the operation up to take a fall, now the question is who? And why?" Madelyne asked as she turned to watch the fight again, my eyes never having shifted from it to my direct subordinate as she spoke.

I saw as Whisper, a trained kick boxer himself attempted to compete with the superior martial arts training of Bourne who could have very well been a member of my human field team if he weren't in fact a mutant. With extensive martial arts training that had been begun by his grandfather as a child William had grown to be one of the top in his age group by his teenage years, and now was a sight to behold. Lance's kick was parried with a shin that pushed Lance's left leg aside breaking his balance, but before he fell he was flung to one side by a round house to the ribs by his opponent.

Enigma had come rushing in at that moment with her own calls of support to her team mate. "Watch out he's going to..." she had begun saying, before an energy pulse to the face sent her flying aside, snapping Madelyne's attention back to the battle once more.

Same Time...

Madelyne:

As William was then walking toward them, he was not aware that I had now made telepathic connection to the once more standing Whisper. I began to feed Lance information. Information on how to control the gifts which he possessed to a superior level as he burned holes in the back of Bourne with his eyes. He saw his four fallen team mates, and shook his head, he had joined this group and on his first day with them almost lost four people he had decided to call friends. As he rose both hands to the air, his entire figure shook with coursing power as blue tendrils of visible mutanagenic energy intermixed with gravitational pressure formed.

~Continue concentrating, and put everything you have in to stopping him. You have to concentrate with all you've got on one point, force your powers in to that point Lance. Its mind over matter.~ I spoke to Lance through his mind, not even sure if I was right myself.

As I watched it seemed that was all Lance Wilkins needed to hear, or feel at least, as he walked forward, his body had slowly begun lifting from the earth but he continued to walk, and as the agents surrounding the lot all began to run, a massive flattening force fell upon the street. Gravity bent three buildings aside for a moment as if reality itself had bent a massive crater was all that remained, with Bourne finally stopped, amidst its center.

I watched as lance came descending from the air, Mari' and Kevin both rushing to reach his side. I was still a bit weary and so I had to lean upon Papovich and Tenku's shoulders as they walked me in the direction of the children. Erin had come to once more and had helped Kelly to her feet, and while she seemed to be the worse for wear she walked over all on her own to meet the agents and after having transmutated took hold of me herself.

"You gentleman go about finding out why Mr. Bourne attacked Madame Pryor, ahem," she said in a very commanding sort of way that one only gained through being raised by nobility. As Kelly and I reached the others though, I heard a noise from behind as my eyes suddenly went alight with lavender energy, and I knew where the shot had begun.

Turning on my heels I saw as Manning drew his pistol and fired four bullets directly in the direction of the children and in my weakened condition I hadn't been able to sense his thoughts, until too late. The bullets sang through the air, and blood was sent flying, but somehow, it was not the blood of those whom I had expected, the children, and I remained safe. Yet another shot, silent, somewhere off in the distance, had hit its mark, and Manning now lay dead, as Harris, Papovich, and Tenku came running to investigate.

Roof Tops, same time:

Melisel Black:

They call me silence. They call me finality. I call myself death. My name is Melisel Black... ...I am the last line of the Illuminati.

If one of our own makes a mistake, it is my job to pick up the pieces. I am beautiful by any stretch of the imagination. I am deadly by all definitions. I can poison your drink, or kill you with my bear hands, but for this occasion, a gun with do the trick. To be precise it is a customized weapon that was designed for me by an engineer back in Madripoor when I was under training. Knowing more then seventy five different ways to kill someone simply by touching a nerve along the nape of their neck, the man decided I needed a weapon befitting an archangel, which is what he named my two weapons. "Uriel, and Sachiel."

I said, as the loose fitting black leather I wore in the form of a trench coat hung loosely about me I held my Forest green bandoleer strap aside for a moment to draw a knife. with it I cut open the satchel bag that had been used to carry Sachiel's collapsed form and quickly had the gun put together and standing on its V-base.

The great thing about this custom weapon was that it was one hundred percent silent, and its bullets charged with kinetic plasma in the chamber, When it fired it was like firing a mini meteor in to your target's flesh, that would instantly fizzle out once hitting the desired target. Setting the analytical scope I found the human with the highest evident stress levels on the field, a man who was holding a gun as I watched, that fired four swift shots.

Following his own shots with five of my own I brushed by long black silky hair back to reveal jaded eyes that burned through the man below like daggers through flesh. The men who employed us both might have been murderers and thieves, but the council had told me to finish him, and that was all I needed to know.

"For the Council Illuminous, I pass judgment, and the judgment is death," I said, as my first four bullets each collided with and disintegrated his own, the fifth hitting the specified target my reflexes had moved to once the bullet threat had been ceased. My other assignment was to keep those children below with the red head alive, and I would do so. Back to my feet before the fifth shot ever even hit Manning's temple. I took a step to the right, and with a device borrowed from our local headquarters in New Orleans, I disappeared in a flash of light from the roof top.

As my body reintegrated five miles away in the Rue Royale, I had already collapsed my rifle in to a folded position and placed it in a strap under my coat. My black kevlar mesh lined tight leather jumpsuit clung nicely to my body as I walked toward the motorcycle I had parked near by, and climbing aboard, I smiled. With a kick to the ignition I was roaring down the road, and Soldier-X and Director-H were none the wiser to my present position.

"Sorry kids, play time is over."

Same Time, Same Place:

Enigma:

I am a telepathic mutant, but today I have found just how useless that gift can be against those who know there way around it. I hear four bullets ringing in the direction of Captain Pryor and the other members of the tear as I instantly begin a mind feed in an attempt to find the shooter. When I come upon Agent Manning's thoughts and find him staring us down my eyes go wide in fear at the words he begins to scream, and the images of a great burning torch laden with bodies around its staff that dances through his mind.

"LONG LIVE THE KING OF LIGHT! TSAR REX ILLUMINATI!!!" he called, and as I felt his thoughts I had fallen upon another's, outside the perimeter line. Someone who's presence I had not sensed the entire day, and as I heard in her mind a prayer of last rights, I saw another bullet flash, this one, from behind us, and above.

The last shot struck Manning in his chest, and I screamed in telepathic confusion as I looked all around and leaned upon Erin's chest, trying to find something to hold my balance. I whispered the words and it seemed that in the same moment Captain Pryor, Maddy, had discovered the other as well.

"A woman, on the roof tops, up there."

Maddy said as she pointed for Papovich, Harris, and Tenku to investigate, Erin was quick to follow suit but she stopped him with a hand. "Erin please, the others have never seen these things, take them back to the jet."

"Yes ma'am." Erin said, as he looked back to me, I was still holding my head as I watched all this unfold and he began leading us back aboard the plane. Bourne had already been placed in a power dampening cell on board that would not allow him to use his abilities, and Erin took a position in the command chair aboard the cockpit, lifting her off toward the roof top to meet the others.

Far below I felt the distant impression of one man's thoughts that I hadn't been able to pick up earlier, and as I looked through one of the view screens inside the cockpit I saw why. Director-H was standing with a hand through his dark brown hair, his face shrouded by a black mask, and he had only one thing on his mind, "The Tsar," came that name again, as I looked back to the roof top where Maddy and the others now waited. Seeing no other figures, I assumed the worst and that the woman had escaped, or had she? I could not find her telepathically, though I couldn't earlier either, what did she have to do with all of this? I wondered, as the plane came to a stop and Tenku, Harris, and Papovich climbed on board, followed by the Captain who followed them to the control deck. The doors were closed to separate their conversation with Erin from the rest of us and we could only assume that this was one case that we would gradually be brought in to.

Kevin was the only one to spoke, but for some reason after a thought I had seen in his mind yesterday came to memory, thoughts of a torch, I shuddered.

"Well, looks like we know who was setting' us up now 'eh?" asked the caramel skinned Egyptian boy. To which the rest of the team answered with sneers, Whisper had sat next to me and placed an arm over my shoulder with a smile, I hadn't really noticed during the earlier part of the day, but he was rather cute. "Thanks for the help with Bourne... ...Don't think I could'a held him like that without you."

I heard him whisper as he bent close to my ear and I nodded, leaning in to him a bit as all the craziness of the day brought on a deep sleep.

Next Issue: Who is Melisel Black? Who is the Mysterious Council leader among the Illuminati? Will William Bourne ever realize the truth? Find out next issue in part 3 of 3 of Mistakes of the Past.

Protocol-H:

For our first letter here at the HMRD office we have a message from Jason:

Interesting issue. This should be an interesting ride. I like how those foes from your Iron Man(and the next writers) runs are being used(and it kind of bugged me that such awesome villains weren't still fighting Iron Man in the current writer's run). On to the questions:<<

Glad you liked the team's premier issue, and the enemies. Tony may not have had his chance to take down the Rex Illuminati(or at least the guy who thinks he's in control), but Soldier-X is going to rectify Tony's mistake some time down the road. As for the Tsar expect to see allot more of him and the other members of the Illuminati High Council showing up, and I'm sure David would appreciate your liking to the character.

Now back to your Questions:>>

1) Is there any chance of this team crossing paths with the Whackos?

Well, once I find out who they are, I'll get back to you on that one.

2) Where did Director H get one of Magneto's old helmets?

Not Magneto's helmet per se, but using Magnus's anti telepathic technology. The helmet is a left over piece of equipment from Director H's former life, which will be revealed in later issues.

3)Is there any chance of Excalibur or X-Force showing up?

This one all really depends on Wheatley(the writer of both titles). If David became interested in a crossover I could see it happening.

4) Will this team fight Kulan Gath?

Kulan Gath? Hmm. He's got immense power. He manipulates everyone, not having any problems attacking humans or mutants. That would make him a prime target wouldn't it? Plus, he is as old as, if not older then the Illuminati, maybe, just maybe, this could go somewhere. You'll have to wait and see.

5) Will they fight the Rush Club?

Well now, that's another group I would have to read up on before giving an answer.
